Jeanne & GastonWonderful SurpriseWonderful surprise found on 14th Street! We had never been to Jeanna & Gaston before so we made what we thought were early dinner plans, but had brunch instead this past Sunday. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable! We look forward to going back again and again.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMy dinner was excellent, butMy dinner was excellent, but there was only one white ben in my wife's lamb shank, which was supposed to have a white beam sauce. Nevertheless it tasted quite good and she might order it again.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely worth returningVery good moderately priced food and service in a tight indoor space. The garden, open weather permitting, is more spacious. The onion soup was quite good, as were the mussels. Noise level was a bit high, owing to both the proximity of other diners and a sound system cranked up a few notches. Worth a return visit in all respects.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfully FrenchI appreciate J&G more with each visit, especially now that the garden is open. Terrific French cuisine with efficient and friendly service.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous Outdoor Brunch SpotWe were first time diners here so we decided to check it out for brunch. I requested an outdoor garden table as the weather was supposed to be lovely - we were not disappointed! The ambience was beautiful and serene and the 3 course brunch was delicious! Each dish was innovative and yummy and the staff was immensely attentive but we never felt rushed through our meal. Great find and we'll go back!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my 2nd visit to JeanneThis was my 2nd visit to Jeanne & Gaston. The 1st was dinner & now lunch; both outstanding & well priced.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGarden oasisA beautiful garden with delicious food. The one waiter had a lot to handle, but who cared if we had to wait as long we were enjoying the sun and wine.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFinding a Gem on 14th StreetThis was my second visit to Jeanne & Gaston. When I arrived for lunch on one of the first nice weather days in months I was asked if I would like to eat in the garden. I was thrilled to sit outside in the sunshine awaiting my friend. He was late, yet I was never rushed to order anything and made to feel extremely comfortable. We had a fabulous lunch. The food is delicious, beautifully served and obviously very fresh. We sat talking endlessly without interruption. It was a perfect afternoon and I can't wait to go back again.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMDivine foodHad 3 course pre fixe dinner. Really reasonable price for amazing food. Did not leave a morsel on the plate, which
I would have liked to lick. Didn't know I liked gazpacho until trying theirs, same for floating island dessert. Had fun joking with the friendly server. Can't wait to go back.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA French gastronomic experienceA pleasant surprise in the village, you blink an eye and you May pass it, however once you experience both their brunch as well as dinner you are inn for quite a French grastronomical experience, loved the steak tartar masterly blended with succulent spices, French onion soup out if this world and a creme burlee that can only be described as simply SINFUL..!!. Jolis the manager will always make you feel like you are at a friends place.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat birthday....Went to the restaurant on a Groupon deal, but they didn't treat me like it... Often NYC restaurants pullout a separate menu and treat you like a pyrah. They allowed me to order whatever I wanted for the full value of the Groupon. Good call! We started with a bottle of Syraz, fresh hot bread, & asked Christian for his recommendations on appetizers. Escargot was a little buttery put e flat bread hire spot. Christian was amazingly attentive and on the spot with refilling our drinks and flirting with my 60 yr old mother (who ate it up).
Christian was again on the mark with his next 2 selections of short ribs & lamb shank. I prefer my lamb a little sweeter, but it was tender and fell of the bone. Very attentive for a Saturday night.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWaiters a bit too zealousWaiters a bit too zealous topping up our water every couple of minutes, but otherwise service was very good and food was excellent. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Would go back again.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother delicious meal wasAnother delicious meal was enjoyed by all (4) the members of our party. Jeanne and Gaston is still our favorite. The chef continues to tweak the menu in addition to the old favorites.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMPlanning an 85 year old birthdayPlanning an 85 year old birthday for my Mom in their beautiful garden. We went last weekend to check out the food and were thrilled. we all ordered different dishes for brunch and everything came out great.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding French DiningThis cozy restaurant is an out of place gem in an otherwise commercial part of 14th street. We had the prix fixe dinner, and every item was outstanding. My wife had the mussels, which were the best she has ever had (including many stops along the Brittany/Normandy coast). I had a pasta dish, which was also perfectly prepared. The weather was not warm enough to dine in the back garden, but that location should counterbalance the front street views of a not-so-attractive part of 14th street.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Foodwas a party of 5...the lobster app was amazing!pasta and scallops also really great. No complaints. We will eat there again without a doubt.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDoes what a restaurant shouldWill definitely return especially when the outdoor garden is open. Original dish was not cooked properly but manager noticed it immediately. He came over to the table and took both dishes away (even though the one was just fine) recooked both orders and presented us with complimentary wine while we waited. This is what a restaurant should do. When dishes brought back they were perfect!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Outstanding Dining ExperienceIt's all come together at this lovely restaurant. The superb, authentic French cuisine offered by a talented, authentic French chef is derigueur here. It is now accompanied by friendly, attentive service which is neither overbearing nor intrusive. That high level was maintained throughout, despite the fact that the restaurant was fully booked. Nous sommes tres contents!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMParis in NYCI felt like I was in Paris, both for the decor and the food. It was a delightful experience. And they even had a hard to find quenelle dish on the menu. It was terrific and authentic. I can't wait until they open their lovely garden when it gets warmer. I will certainly return again and again. I just want to add the service was professional and fun.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMJeanne & Gaston...French bistroJeanne & Gaston is a great little French bistro. I've been there three different times. The dinner we had on March 20th was pretty much ruined by the noise level. Apparently, there was a wine tasting event in progress. Although we were seated as far from the bar as possible, it was still impossible to converse.
The onion soup was great, I had it before, and the mussels were great, plump, sweet and the portion was good. The frites accompanying them were well made and my dining partners were stealing them!
Jeanne & Gaston is a good restaurant and the food there is quite good. The service is great, you are made to feel very welcome. I only wish I had known about the wine tasting crowd, I would have rescheduled for another night.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAs we have come to expect,As we have come to expect, the food was delicious - not the average bistro food. We go here often and are never disappointed.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic prefix menu. BeenFantastic prefix menu. Been here multiple times and every time I"m impressed.
French onion soup is delicious and so is the escargot. Short ribs and lamb are so tender, the meat just melts in your mouth! Mussels are fat and filling, and the steak frites is a big dish! Desserts here are so good! The soufflé is the best I've had ever. hands down. Not too runny, not overcooked. Crem brûlée is a must, and floating island is exotic!
Our waiter was excellent. he was managing the whole restaurant, the bar, and the entire time was quick and friendly.
Will come back again!3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA winner every time! Fine,A winner every time! Fine, flavorful French cuisine at a quality that's almost impossible to find at these prices. I never tire of exploring the menu. Great food, freat staff.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGO!Once upon a time NYC had dozens of little French restaurants with real French food lovingly prepared and (sometimes) charmingly served. The folks at Jeamne & Gaston are doing their best to restore that tradition. The food is authentic and delicious, the service is charming and eager to please. And the prices are rather humble.
Easy to get to.
So, GO!3/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA Lovely FindThe staff is great, knows a lot about the very tasty food and is accommodating and helpful. The look of the place is equal parts homey and chic. Plus, the portions are filling and the wine list offers some very nice inexpensive options. It's become one of our neighborhood favorites.2/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful Small French RestaurantWe had Christmas Dinner at Jeanne & Gaston and were absolutely delighted. The classic French food was superb - from the raw oysters to the trout and braised short ribs through to the classic Buche Noel yule log. The wine and champagne selection by the glass was lovely and reasonably priced. Service could not have been friendlier and we were fortunate in scoring the one round table at the front of the restaurant. Jeanne & Gaston reminds me of some of the lovely small restaurants on the Ile St Louis in Paris or in Old Montreal. We will definitely be back.12/25/2012 12:00:00 AMCame here for Christmas EveCame here for Christmas Eve dinner. Planned on the christmas even prefixe menu, but ended up getting a $40 prefixe menu. So much to choose from! I got escargot-- which wasn't garlicy or buttery but more olive oil. I like it both ways so it didn't bother me though I think most people are used to the butter garlic snails. Got the braised short rib as my entre and floating island for dessert. Short rib was so tender and flavorful. The real hit was the floating island. It was so unique and yummy. It's like custard? hard to describe. My friend got a bowl of mussel and they were the biggest and fattest mussels ive ever seen. the scallops here are also sensational.12/24/2012 12:00:00 AM
