A word from Jeanne & Gaston
Jeanne & Gaston is a French Bistro with a modern twist that is based on a mix of Godard"s family recipes and traditional French recipes.

Diners can enjoy the wonderful cuisine in the restaurant's dining hall that has a modern ambiance with a touch of classic French influence, or at the garden patio during the summer months, all the while retaining its casual and classy atmosphere.

Diner Reviews
  • "We had a reservation for 7.30 for 4 and by 7.25pm two of us were there. We elected to wait outside. When the other 2 in our party came at 7.35pm we came into the restaurant only to be pushed aside by others who also had 7.30pm reservations. The result was that we were invited to wait at the bar until there was a free table (8.00pm). Annoying experience with three Maitre Ds at the desk."

  • "A warm and welcoming spot with a great selection of food and wine. French bistro standards plus something new and interesting to try. Attentive owner and staff will help if you're in a rush or let you stay and linger if you want to enjoy and savor your meal with good conversation and another glass of wine."

  • "Service was friendly although our 8:30 reservation kept us at the bar till 9:15 when finally seated. Initially chosen when looking at Groupon deals we were lured in by the prix fixed dinner that was a great selection however somehow the price went up substantially by ordering 2 bottles of wine plus coffee. Escargot was tasty but had to ask twice for wonderfully warm bread sticks to dip into the tasty garlic butter. Presentation was wonderful on every dish. It would have been nice if the entrees were served with vegetables, potato, etc instead of listing them as ala carte items. All in all a fun evening, good food, good service. I would like to return to experience the outdoor garden for lunch or brunch."

  • "Cute little bistro with pretty good food and really cool cocktails. The food was pretty good, howver my steak was really over-cooked. But, the seasoning was so good it didn't really matter. Serive was a little weird...we were served by many different people and didn't quite know to call on. We would've tried dessert, but no one offered it to us. Of closures I could've asked, but I feel like it's the restaurants job to drive sales, not mine. All in all, I'd go back and give it another shot. The French onion soup was too good not to!"

  • "The cuisine remains superb. Maitre d'hote Jolys had the packed dining room perfectly in hand. Yes, there are still some real restaurants left in NYC."

  • "i'd like to give it another shot when the weather is nice enough to eat out in the garden, but i really hope they get their act together service-wise."

  • "Jeanne & Gaston was a great little bistro. We had the tarte flambé which was a delicious pizza type of thing and we each had cassoulet which was outstanding, one of the best we've ever had. I had the pear clafoutis for dessert. It was very yummy. We had cocktails and wine so our bill was up there. The food prices were very reasonable. Without liquor, you could have a very nice dinner for 2 for $75. Jeanne & Gaston is a definite keeper. It made me wish I lived in the neighborhood and could drop in every week!"

  • "The short ribs were divine as well as the molten chocolate and the zabaione. The waiter & manager were knowledgeable, friendly, attentive and charming and the place is very warm & inviting. Great experience !"

  • "There aren't a lot of "little French bistros" left that serve classic French food--but this is a real one! Classic dishes, beautifully executed. We were especially happy with the dessert soufflé--we ordered the praline version--something you rarely see any more. But everything was delicious--wild mushroom soup, a terrine with foie gras, cassoulet, short ribs. And whether you go à la carte or order a prix fixe, it's good value. Can't wait for warm weather to eat in the lovely garden."

  • "I went for their Valentine's Day special with my wife, we both enjoyed it very much. In particular, the wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Even though they style themselves as a fancy French restaurant, the staff was actually very down to Earth and had a great attitude. While the spacing was a little cramped, it worked well for a romantic dinner date."

  • "Took my wife and adult daughter here for a quiet Valentine's Day dinner and couldn't have been more -pleased. We were seated immediatley upon entering. The staff was courteous, helpful and freindly, They patiently answered our questions regarding menu items and were attentive though not overbrearing during the course of our dinner. In fqact, when we were fiished and paid the bill, did not feel rushed out. As for the food, we had an excellent french onion soup with gruyere cheese, really well cooked braised short ribs bourginon and a wonderful baked alaska for desert. The wine menu was impressive and my wife and daughter enjoyed a nice Pinot and Estate Resiling, respectively. The beer offerings were all bottled though adequate."

  • "The service was prompt but not rushed. The prix fix dinner (Valentines Day) had some nice options and the price was reasonable. It was our first time there and I would go back again. I hear they have a nice outdoor garden area where you can eat which we'd like to try again when the weather permits."

  • "Bordering the Village and Chelsea is a hidden gem with real French food and quiet unpretentious atmosphere. We have been here for lunch and for dinner and both meals were wonderful. We are eager to try their garden in the spring."

  • "The restaurant was really friendly...the service was good and the wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. The food was good and, given that it was New YEAR's eve...the noise level was quite reasonable. It is a prett place, too. And yes, I would return and recommend it."

  • "This was such a lovely surprise. We had just arrived in town and had found this online, so we were pleasantly surprised by the good and friendly service. And the braised short ribs were amazing. I highly recommend this place."

  • "We had lunch here on Christmas eve. The restaurant was pretty empty and they had a prixe fix but you could also order a la cart. The food was amazing. The chicken soup with the puff pastry was delicious. I also had the red snapper boullibase and it was very good! I highly recommend this restaurant! Great place to bring people from out of town. Also had the escargot which was also delicious. The restaurant is adorable."

  • "Had a lovely evening out with an old friend thanks to the amazing staff at Jeanne & Gaston! Everyone on staff was super friendly and attentive, I couldn't have asked for better service. To top it off, the food and drinks were delicious. We loved (and completely devoured) the cheese board and charcuterie. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "No one knows about this place, and that's what I love about it. The food is first rate, the service is friendly and attentive. It's a pretty room (and wonderful garden in the back in the Summer). And it doesn't seem to attract packs of screaming diners. I was with three friends and we were actually able to have a conversation without shouting to be heard. A rare find in NYC. Don't get me wrong -- it's not a sleepy place. It's just wonderful."

  • "Not one. Picked this place off Open Table while in NYC for a holiday visit. Our party started out with 5 and ended up with 9. No problem. They accommodated us and gave us a great evening. The food was excellent, service outstanding and ambiance just fine. Maybe a little loud because of our group. Of course, the cocktails and wine (all very nice) contributed to the merriment. Go here. You'll enjoy it."

  • "We went for thanksgiving lunch and the food was superb considering it was just $40 for a 3 course meal . We had the place all to ourselves as we were the only customers at that time . The seafood bisque for appetizers is worth mentioning as it's something I'd look forward to eating again ."

  • "We were greeted with warmth the minute we arrived at the restaurant especially when you arriving with a three year old. They seated us at a great spot where it is convenient for the stroller and with a view of the whole restaurant. By the way, we went there for thanksgiving dinner and the food was great (three course). The portion was just perfect except for the appetizer I ordered for my us. It was a french style pizza which was too oily not just him but even for me too. I do love the idea except maybe next time I will tell them to take it easy on the olive oil. So our waiter was very great and very attentive. When my son spilled water on the table, the first thing he did was rescued my nephew's camera which I think was a very smart move."
