A word from Jeanne & Gaston
Jeanne & Gaston is a French Bistro with a modern twist that is based on a mix of Godard"s family recipes and traditional French recipes.

Diners can enjoy the wonderful cuisine in the restaurant's dining hall that has a modern ambiance with a touch of classic French influence, or at the garden patio during the summer months, all the while retaining its casual and classy atmosphere.

Diner Reviews
  • "Absolutely no value for the money. Food was adequate, service spotty. Although billed a s a French bistro, was not particularly either."

  • "This was our first time here and definitely not our last. We sat outside in the garden in the back and the service was great and the food was delicious. Everything from the appetizer to the entrée to the wonderful soufflé for dessert, was delicious. We will definitely go back again."

  • "This is a nice little local restaurant. We went after mass around 11:30. We enjoyed the food and service."

  • "The back patio is lovely. Really nicely done. The people who work there are just wonderful. Friendly - helpful and ready to answer any questions or any requests. There is a however - however the food was not that wonderful. The pork belly was cooked to death! Food could be better. But the back is that nice. The waitstaff that wonderful. So you can overlook the food. Keep it simple and you should not be disappointed. They do the right thing."

  • "Thanks to the small yet effective staff at Jeanne and Gaston for making our One Year Anniversary dinner so special. The courtyard was romantic and quiet. We felt like we'd discovered our own little getaway in the middle of Manhattan. Loved everything I ordered. The seafood napoleon appetizer which was 3 beautiful layers of crab and avocado was only outdone by the braised short ribs I had for dinner. I'd saved our wedding cake and they were kind enough to plate/decorate and present to us at the end of the meal. We have found a new favorite and plan to come back often."

  • "This is a lovely neighborhood spot with authentic French food that is delicious. The prix fixe weekend brunch is a treat, and it's a great place to go if you want to sit and talk and dawdle."

  • "I went to Jeanne and Gaston for my birthday because I didn't have time to plan so I just picked the first french restaurant I found. Cute garden but they have typical plastic outdoor furniture...not very chic, although the candles and streaming lights are cute. The waiters were awful. I asked like 7 times for a place setting and they never brought it until my food came. There were a dozen used glasses on the table at a time. I had to beg for a fork and they didn't even give us enough menus to start, which is annoying considering we spent a ton on food that night. Mehh.... I wouldn't go back. Also, pretty overpriced."

  • "We had gone to Jeanne & Gaston for a Christmas group dinner and we had a good time, good food, good wine, good service. We went for brunch on the way to the Rubin Museum and had another very nice experience. Good brunch choices, and good food for the moderate prices. We are not drinkers but there was a good selection of brunch drinks, plus there is a full bar. It was quiet that day except for the music, and the service was very good. Very enjoyable. We will go again."

  • "Our experience at Jeanne & Gaston was very good. The food was great... Love the patio al fresco seating. The service was good but could improve a bit. All in all a good experience. Will return!"

  • "When the weather is nice, there is no better place to dine in Manhattan that the outdoor garden at Jeanne and Gaston. The uncomplicated French cuisine is excellent, and they serve pretty good drinks as well. Their prix fixe dinners are reasonable and offer a good selection. Lastly, you can enjoy your dinner in casual attire."

  • "It was a lovely day, in a lovely garden in a lovely restaurant. The tart was yummy, the French toast was great. Perhaps a little too much food. Will go back for dinner"

  • "A friend in the West Village recommended Jeanne & Gaston and she was right. It is a lovely restaurant, noise level made it possible to have a conversation, something unusual in most Village eateries. The service was attentive without being intrusive and the food was excellent."

  • "Great service, simple but enjoyable brunch menu, very pleasant space in the backyard,"

  • "Shared goat cheese appetizer. Crisp but not oily. Date had mussels and I had beef bourginione. Both were excellent as were the pommes frites. The accompaning warm french breads were just as they should be. Only criticism was A/C wasn't on despite a warm day."

  • "Very nice service, quiet garden in the middle of the City, very good food."

  • "I have to say, the outdoor patio is worth the visit alone, especially on a cool spring night in New York. Four of us made a reservation for 8pm on Memorial Day. For whatever reason, the place was dead empty. Even so, they managed to run out of steak, much to the chagrin of one of our numbers. It's a place where you really want to have steak frites. Still, the food was fine, not great, but good. Very much the kind of fare you find in a standard neighborhood restaurant in Paris so, in that way, it actually feels more authentic. I'd go. Especially on an early date when you're beginning to fall in love and nothing else around you matters anyway. "

  • "I went here looking for a nice garden restaurant on pleasant evening. The garden is a little bit dilapidated though very large. Unfortunately, the food and the service were both bad. "

  • ""Heaven" was what i whispered when i took a bite into my Chicken Crepe following my onion soup. The food was excellent, The staff was friendly and courteous. There was never a moment of uneaseness as i have experienced in some other restaurants i've been. The outdoor setting was very relaxing, almost enchanting if the wind wasn't present that day. I would definitely come back again and refer my friends and family to this lovely place :)"

  • "great outdoor garden in the back. had a lovely work lunch there, was nice and quiet. Good neighborhood spot. Service was a little slow considering we were practically the only people there, but friendly guy. good warm bread to start, yummy burger, nicoise salad was nice, but my tuna was overcooked."

  • "Came here last Sunday for an early brunch. The host was very friendly and seated us outside in the lovely courtyard area right next to the fountain. The disappointment came when our waiter brought the menu - for some reason, only the dinner menu was available and we had been craving the brunch menu. No explanation was offered and our waiter was obviously hung over. Nevertheless, we ordered and food came very promptly. Both the mussels and pork belly were delicious. The jasmine tea creme brulee was also nice. Would go again if I knew when they would be serving the brunch menu!"

  • "The imaginative, well-conceived French cuisine at Jeanne et Gaston continues to delight. The maître d'hote, Jolis, and his staff do an outstanding job of managing the very busy dining room; courses arrive in a timely fashion, and hot, with no evidence of having been sitting somewhere. It's refreshing to dine among so many New Yorkers whose palettes haven't been deadened by all the mediocre, faux French cooking out there."

  • "Our waiter made a favorable impression on us; he was funny and charming, and went out of his way to make sure we had a nice brunch. He invited us to stay as long as we liked. Will definitely return."

  • "I found this restaurant by scrolling through Open Tables list of available tables for brunch in Chelsea.I did not know it, but the location was right and the menu looked good. What a lovely surprise! The place is charming, out brunch was great, the price was manageable, and the garden was to die for. It was a bit too cool to eat outside but we will be back soon!"

  • "We had brunch there last Sunday and it was the best. We sat in the garden and had amazing food, desserts and drinks. If you are looking for a tasty quite place to sit and enjoy the outdoor this your place!! Enjoy."

  • "We had a reservation for 7.30 for 4 and by 7.25pm two of us were there. We elected to wait outside. When the other 2 in our party came at 7.35pm we came into the restaurant only to be pushed aside by others who also had 7.30pm reservations. The result was that we were invited to wait at the bar until there was a free table (8.00pm). Annoying experience with three Maitre Ds at the desk."

  • "A warm and welcoming spot with a great selection of food and wine. French bistro standards plus something new and interesting to try. Attentive owner and staff will help if you're in a rush or let you stay and linger if you want to enjoy and savor your meal with good conversation and another glass of wine."

  • "Service was friendly although our 8:30 reservation kept us at the bar till 9:15 when finally seated. Initially chosen when looking at Groupon deals we were lured in by the prix fixed dinner that was a great selection however somehow the price went up substantially by ordering 2 bottles of wine plus coffee. Escargot was tasty but had to ask twice for wonderfully warm bread sticks to dip into the tasty garlic butter. Presentation was wonderful on every dish. It would have been nice if the entrees were served with vegetables, potato, etc instead of listing them as ala carte items. All in all a fun evening, good food, good service. I would like to return to experience the outdoor garden for lunch or brunch."

  • "Cute little bistro with pretty good food and really cool cocktails. The food was pretty good, howver my steak was really over-cooked. But, the seasoning was so good it didn't really matter. Serive was a little weird...we were served by many different people and didn't quite know to call on. We would've tried dessert, but no one offered it to us. Of closures I could've asked, but I feel like it's the restaurants job to drive sales, not mine. All in all, I'd go back and give it another shot. The French onion soup was too good not to!"

  • "The cuisine remains superb. Maitre d'hote Jolys had the packed dining room perfectly in hand. Yes, there are still some real restaurants left in NYC."

  • "i'd like to give it another shot when the weather is nice enough to eat out in the garden, but i really hope they get their act together service-wise."

  • "Jeanne & Gaston was a great little bistro. We had the tarte flambé which was a delicious pizza type of thing and we each had cassoulet which was outstanding, one of the best we've ever had. I had the pear clafoutis for dessert. It was very yummy. We had cocktails and wine so our bill was up there. The food prices were very reasonable. Without liquor, you could have a very nice dinner for 2 for $75. Jeanne & Gaston is a definite keeper. It made me wish I lived in the neighborhood and could drop in every week!"
