Jean GeorgesA wonderful dining experienceWe brought friends visiting from San Francisco to Jean Georges. All four of us thought it was the perfect place for our celebratory reunion. Unlike other NYC restaurants, we could hear each other perfectly. We enjoyed the comfortable seating, solicitous waiters and waitresses, lovely presentations of interesting food combinations, never felt rushed. The prix fixe lunch has a great menu. All four of us plan to return.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThese people are so nice.....Came for my 24th Wedding Aniversary. Just lunch. They made us a little cake with a chocolate plaque. Nice gesture.
My wife noticed some wine glass came out with something on it. Staff was on it like white on rice. Very pleasant and unobtrusive
A bargain for lunch at this level restaurant. Food was great with one or two VERY slight weak moments. Almost perfect. I am going back soon.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AM13 MAyI was in New York for a weekend gateway, where i also celebrated my birthday and got engaged... loved the place5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMawesome foodwent here for my birthday and everything was so delicious. I am very picky and I really liked this place. Would go again when I visit NYC in the future!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMParadiseSimply put, this is the pinnacle of New York dining.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTop of the Food ChainJG is as good as advertised. I often go & eat at the bar in Nougatine. I have not eaten in the formal dining room for several years. This past Sunday we hosted a couple in from LA. The food was fantastic & worthy of its lofty reputation and price. It was a 3 hour hour experience and it was as good as it gets. I dine out very often in NYC & travel for business. There has been a lot of chatter about celebrity chefs. JG is a case where the chef became a celebrity. He is there almost every time I am in Nougatine actually working/running the business. The prices are preset and with four people the tab runs up pretty quickly (my friends did not drink). We did not bat an eyelash at the near $700 bill...it was worth every penny.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGood lunch time dealWent of the lunch time deal after a very strong recommendation form colleagues. Pretty impressed food was innovative and very delicious a few mistakes were handled very well by the servers. Excellent wine list. Not sure it would be worth it for diner if I'm honest -- I've eaten at better 2 stared places in EU, very good but not perfection and franklye for the cost and reputation I should have left crying tears of joy - and I wasnt quite there5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in Fine DiningOne of the best meals I have had! Would definitely come back as frequently as I can.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLived up to its reputation.Lived up to its reputation. An extra points for perfect service compared to some of its ego-chef-driven rival fine dining restaurants. The tasting menus were wonderful and they accomodated a few special requests without hesitation. The only downside is that there are no seats available at the bar for a drink since it it used by many who are actually dining at the bar.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday LunchA perfect selection for a late afternoon lunch, especially for special occasion because the staff is extremely accommodating with the menu, wine list, and even provide tons of extras (champagne and decadent cake for a birthday; hand made treats from the chef pre-meal,) to make the experience unforgettable. While not my first time at this location, it was my favorite and I will definitely return for other special occasions ans events.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic ExperienceI took my mother to a special lunch at Jean Georges and the experience was everything I hoped it would be. The service was very attentive and helpful, the staff was a joy. And the food, a heavenly experience. My favorite was the soft shell crab, so delicate and flavorful. Every course in fact, was a marvel of presentation and a joy to taste.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Lunch Set in NYCBest Lunch set 2 course plus complimentary amuse bouche and petits four for a great $$!
you can also get a taste of every wine by the glass for really great price!
Well done! reservation is a must (table by the window is beautiful)5/8/2013 12:00:00 AM$240for an okay,UNspectacular lunchMe and my fiancé went there for lunch, maybe for dinner they improve(?) The food at the JG was nothing special. No surprises by the kitchen at all. When we are talking about 3-Michelin-Star, we are talking about high expectations and exceptional food, like at Daniel Boulud or Paul Bocuse - outstanding kitchen. The JG doesn't play in the liga of a 2or3-Star-Restaurant at all. The Riesling was good, even when it wasn't "very dry", but sweet like a dessert wine. (No sommelier) The marshmallow at the end was not more special than in a delicate supermarket. Also not sure if you wanne let your guest leave with that flavour, specially not those who are used to get at least sth like a foie-gras-iced white choclate lolly or sth special like that.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional again.Third lunch in as many years...the only place we MUST visit when in NYC.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMI could die happy after dinner! One of the best dining experiences we've ever had. The service was very friendly and polite, we even got a small dessert with candles for our anniversary. But what impressed us the most was the food, absolutely outstanding! Very well presented and outrageously delicious! I could die happy after this dinner!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFab 3* not too pricey lunchThis topped off our NY trip very nicely. Amazing personal service. Out of this world food. Reasonable price tag. This is a very good 3* lunch deal.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the tripWe were in NYC to attend the James Beard Foundation awards, and Jean Georges was the highlight of the trip. Service was spectacular, and the food exceeded our hyped up expectations. We will return, often.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeWe had lunch Sunday before matinee. Service was excellent. Presentation was amazing. Food quality and taste was great. The combination of ingredients and flavors were exceptional. Next time we are in NYC we will definitely repeat, this time for dinner.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter many visits to thisAfter many visits to this restaurant, I can honestly say that we've never been disappointed in either the food or service. Consistently outstanding service and food that will leave a long lasting impression and will be hard to duplicate in any other restaurant. Truly a special dinner worth every penny!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMamazing service and equallyamazing service and equally good food! We had a perfect luncheon experience.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely lunchWe had a great lunch. The dining room is a very special place to dine, very romantic. The service was impeccable, and the food a delight.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent all the way.Totally a first class experience which is what we were looking for. Loved it. We came to NYC for a great lunch and we were not disappointed. Waitstaff were so nice and friendly and the food was to die for. Just what we were looking for and we were not disappointed. Lunch was just perfect. Ambience was excellent and noise level very low. Perfect all the way.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSerenity on the Upper West SideHad a wonderful celebratory lunch at Jean George's this week. The tasting menu was divine and service was excellent but relaxed. Chef was extremely accommodating to our preferences.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSplended night of foodThe food and service was great. My companion noticed that some of the dishes were over salted and had too many flavors. The halibut which I tasted was buried in a slight excess of flavor and salt. Otherwise ,bring lots of money.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMA Favorite for All OccasionsWent for lunch and had 2 courses and dessert. First course was the Foie Gras Parfait which was amazing! Think salted caramel and dried cherry foie gras heaven. Second course was a beef tenderloin with crispy potatoes. Again, the beef was cooked perfectly and the potatoes were perfectly crisp. Went for the Caramel for dessert which was fantastic! One note is that there was and Argentinian White Wine for $9 a glass that was delicious! Can't wait to get back on our next visit to NYC!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSensational LunchBrilliant food, wine and service and great value for lunch.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a taste treatWe've been coming here for years. They never disappoint.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh quality food and presentation.High quality food and presentation. Had the "asian" inspired menu, was very good but not very asian.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWill definitely be back!!!Beautiful decor and a lovely, central setting. The food was outstanding...highly recommend!!!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA classic favorite, thoughA classic favorite, though unfortunate that a large group (who couldn't handle their wine) ruined the atmosphere. There's a reason why we have bridges and tunnels to keep them out.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe thoroughly enjoyed ourWe thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The food was delicious, the wine was great, and the service was excellent!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite restaurant ever,Favorite restaurant ever, anywhere. Perfect for all special events and also for just celebrating life.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent, theThe food was excellent, the ambiance was lovely, and the lunch price was affordable. If you have any dietary restrictions make sure you inquire because the menu did not mention that the sauce for the Arctic char had shellfish in it.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a spectacular lunch. This was a spectacular lunch. We requested to add two guests at the last minute and they were extremely gracious and accommodating. Our guests said it was the best lunch they had ever eaten. We were seated at what seemed to be a very large round table, yet the 4 of us had no difficulty carrying on a conversation. I had lunch here in December 1997, and I have to say it was more spectacular now. I strongly recommend this as the second best way to enjoy this Mecca of gastronomy. (The third best way would be to sit in the bar/lounge where you can control the cost of your meal even more, but with a very different ambiance.)4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, the food, serviceAs always, the food, service and overall experience was impeccable. To quote the person I took there "It was all fabulous... best birthday of my recent decade...it was perfect"
Thank you again for making my dining experience most memorable4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a fabulous dinner. We had a fabulous dinner. The service was perfection and the dishes varied from excellent to outstanding.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was extra professional,The service was extra professional, to the point of giving out a feeling of being really rehearsed in the expense of genuine friendliness. Definitely not a place for a casual, relaxed lunch. The food for the lunch was good and especially the desserts excellent.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat service, great food, great service, great food, but not romantic. if you are looking to take a friend or family or business colleague this is your spot. it is a must for anyone who is in town for only a few days and is looking for a high class setting and meal.
5 out of 5 stars.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome Experience Overall!Unfortunately only had room for a third of the tasting menu during lunch. Will just need to go back to try everything else.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOur dinner was splendid. TheOur dinner was splendid. The service was excellent, and every bite of the food was superb.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything perfect except...I decided to take my mother to Jean Georges for the tasting menu. All the dishes were tasty and the service was superb. However, maybe because it was the lunch hour, there were a table full of tourist family who were in their tennis shoes and sweatpants? jean? laughing and talking very loud. Also another table with a big Indian family who were getting loud; they were few tables away from us but I still could hear every single conversations. Annoying. I would come back because of the wonderful food and the excellent service but I'll try to avoid lunch hour.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSmaller portions please!Excellent staff is the highlight here. Portions are huge -- unquestionably too large for most women I've dined with. This extends to desserts which are lovely, but simply too much after two very large appetizer and main courses. The kitchen has a heavy hand with herbs and seasonings, so some of the offerings can entail some challenging tastes (I've eaten here nearly a dozen times with similar observations). The room is stunning, although the din from the happening bar area tends to drift through the room (please close the door to the dining room!). Daniel is more elegant, quieter and has more approachable food, but can be a bit staid.
Jean George has late, post theater, seatings. Always a treat. The fresh pea soup is to die for.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMJ'ai mangé dans beaucoup deJ'ai mangé dans beaucoup de pays de très non restaurants mais la! Je le met dans mes top 3... Au monde! Je dirais exequos avec Europea à Montréal qui étais jusque la mon meilleur restaurant numéro 1 au monde...4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply the BestAn over-the-top celebratory pre-opera birthday dinner, each dish for 2 of us: perfect. Standouts in a memorable array: seared fois gras w rhubarb compote & caramelized onion;and Jordan almond crusted duck breast w 2 sauces, both fabulous. I'm on a post-surgical diet, so when the waitress explained my original choice of roast quail was 'quite spicy', I said I'd reluctantly have to pass (the duck breast was her well recommended substitute.) When the server brought the warm avocado soup shot 'amuse bouche', his was dusted with chili. Mine was not. Exquisite listening and attention to detail. And they do 1/2 glasses of wine! Flawless.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Evening. This isExcellent Evening. This is an outstanding restaurant.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMHave been there twice. BothHave been there twice. Both times were excellent. Caviar egg outstanding. Wait staff noticed when my dining partner did not care for a dish and quickly replaced it. Will go again next time in New York.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat MealWent for a birthday, but most were there for a nice meal. Jean Georges has a beautiful open dining room spacious yet enclosed. Details are noticed here in the food and the service. It is one of a few places where you really "dine". Our waitress explained dishes in detail and how the price fixed menus worked, when the food was taken away and delivered it was done in tandem by two people showcasing presentation. As our main dished were placed the waitress recounted the details of each dish. The food itself was stellar. My veal was pounded and cooked just right with a very tasty sauce, the shrimp was also delicious. Of course in a restaurant of this caliber there was an amuse bouche as well as gratis mini sweets. A bit pricey, but worth it.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOustanding with a couple ofOustanding with a couple of isssues. The service hovers so close and sweeps things away so quickly you havve to defend your plate. The ladies champagne glass had to be replaced twice for being removed while we still had plenty. The courses truly ran together as we felt rushed. Finally the server caught on and eased the pace. Nevertheless an experience to remember.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely stellar food, withAbsolutely stellar food, with an open kitchen to watch all the action. The wine list was unparalleled, and the service unmatched. I hear you can catch Trump himself eating here once a month, but for the money, I'd pay more attention to the food.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMJean George earns its reputationGO! Jean George's reputation is among the best dining experiences in New York. Romantic and relaxed, it did not disappoint. Service was perfect--prompt and focused--and free of the nervous quality in some fancier restaurants. The kitchen must be in sync because the food was lovingly prepared and served hot (too rare a trait these days.) Prix fixe had interesting options, and the extras were nice surprises. The cocktails were great, although the up-charge on the wine seemed a bit dear. One small note--not all but many of the two-tops are side by side (a trend that feels rather touristy to me) I guess the idea is to make the food/presentation the star of the dining experience. Personally, I'd prefer my company be the star!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
