In fact, we spent two days at top venues such as Babbo. Jean Georges tops the list with with its unusual dishes, impeccable service, soulful ambiance, and imaginative wine offerings. Their fava bean creation clearly bested a similar version at Babbo, and there small delicate, but heavenly foie gras with seeds and other small items was a tiny miracle. They allow patrons to purchase a "taste" of wine and actually let you taste the wine before your purchase the 1/2 glass taste. While we felts no need for dessert, we were given a special surprise birthday cake--a mini-chocolate mousse cake. The food isn't as refined as it should be, all courses we had was just missing that extra touch. We are from Melbourne, Australia and wanted to experience a Michelin starred restaurant while here. We were not disappointed. The service was wonderful and the food was incredible. We chose the a la carte option which includes 3 courses plus dessert. Every course was outstanding and the waiter provided great advice in recommending fantastic wines to accompany the food. We are still talking about the fois gras and strawberries, the halibut and the suckling pig! And the caramel dessert! Especially the food of course as it should be. Each course had something special. Either simply perfect or a special combination. Flavors were strong, rich and pure. PLates were beautiful. Service is excellent and impeccable, but still quite relaxed. They make you feel special. Various last preparations to courses are done at your table. The dining room is tres chique and elegant. The wine list is a fun read and some prices go to extremes, but that is to be expected. You can make it as special as you want. The mix of fine haute cuisine with a touch of "heat" was amazing. I love spicy food but had never found it in high end meals. The clever balance of flavors and spice lead to an amazing meal. I was surprised that after each course the heat vanished prior to the next course so there was never an interference of tastes between the courses. After initially being seated next to the kitchen door, we complained and were moved to another table. Excellent service staff, especially our waiter whose name was Anthony or Andrew. After we were moved into his area, he made sure everything went well. He made very good recommendations for drinks and for courses on the menu when we asked. We mentioned my girlfriend's son was graduating and he brought over a little chocolate & gold leaf cake with a white chocolate note which said "congratulations."
