Jean Farris Winery & BistroGreat food among the vinesJean Farris Winery makes some great Kentucky wines, and the food at the Bistro is very good, too. You can graze from the appetizers, cheeses and charcuterie, or have a more substantial meal with one of the entrees. Everything is fresh and there are some great flavor combinations. It's located outside Lexington, and it's a lovely drive past fields of horses to get there. Coming in, the vineyard is on either side. Very relaxing.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNight out with groupWe went to dinner as a group of six. Piece of cake making reservations on Open Table. Our waiter was outstanding and the food was delicious! The wines were outstanding -definitely the best KY wines we've had. We will be returning again and again!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMA Delightful EveningAn excellent choice for a summer night --- the patio at Jean Farris is lovely, the service impeccable, their local wines worth dining, and the food creative. Weekday evenings are slow, but the staff is gracious and never rushes you. An ideal place for a quiet, relaxed first class meal.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMdelicious food and wine!!!delicious food and wine!!! The lobster pappardelle was amazing!!!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOur service was superb, theOur service was superb, the wine and food were excellent. Everyone in our party wants to eat there again.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEarly Summer SupperLocated geographically near Lexington's Richmond Road outer corridor, but miles away in atmosphere. JFW is an unpretentious gem. The excellent menu offers a wider than typically offered fare for area restaurants. Service is quiet, understated. The white tablecloth service and guest interaction reflects well on the investment management makes in training staff. For this Kentucky girl who spent 30 years in Atlanta before only recently moving back, JFW is as close to Atlanta's superb restaurant scene as the Bluegrass gets. Oh, and did I mention the wines--have only had reds, but what delicious wines they are. Highly recommendable. One note, parents-please leave the kids at home. Adults should have intimate spots like this all to themselves.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AManniversary dinnerWe have eaten at Jean Farris for special occasions for several years now. We enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Eating outside is a great experience. I also love the charcuterie choices, and enjoy trying new types of cheeses and sausages. We always have excellent service at the restaurant as well.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for a special occasionHad a great time. Wonderful place for a romantic date. Great food. Great wine and selection. No complaints5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time. This is our first time this restaurant it surpassed all of our expectations will definitely return!!!!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect night out without kidsMy husband and I don't get out much because of the kids. When we do, we want it to count. We had heard about Jean Farris because I interviewed there for a chef position. I immediately wanted to eat there. We began our evening with a smiling ,knowledgeable waitress named Kate. We asked lots of questions about the food and she knew everything as if she cooked it herself. We had a very good Reisling with our charcuterie and cheese. The only criticism I have is the pate mousse. It seemed to be missing something, flat tasting. The addition of Dijon mustard took it home. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Lobster and I had the Rabbit 2 ways. Dessert was cocoa crunch and creme brulee. Tempest was our dinner wine-delicious. Pricey but worth it.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe house made corned beefThe house made corned beef has with poached duck eggs was really excellent! The hash was unusual in consistency (more chunky than shredded) and the parts worked well over a dollop of hollandaise sauce. The seared sea scallops were described as delicious, too.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Bluegrass BestExcellent choices, great atmosphere and wonderful staff! None better!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Mother's Day at JFWe enjoyed our beautifully prepared meal, the wine pairing was excellent, and the vineyard provided the perfect backdrop for pictures.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy! They need more vegetarian options, as our guests had trouble ordering. The cheese sampling was great, as we're the scallops with gnocchi pasta, and the amazing beet salad!!! Can sound a little noisy & hollow at times. Looking forward to dining there outside when the weather permits. Great wine. Beautiful location.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal and homegrown wines. We really enjoyed Jean Farris. Great spot if you find yourself in Bluegrass.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur favorite restaurantThis is our favorite restaurant! The staff is always very friendly and professional. They recognize us when we arrive. This last visit I didn't even have to tell them my name for the reservation...they remembered me and the type of table I request. That's ritz Carlton service!!! I brought my mom for Mother's Day, this was her first visit, now she understands why it's my favorite. She normally doesn't like any wine...I insisted she try one...she loved it!!!! Thank you jean Farris for always being SO wonderful!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMQuiet, intimate, and amazing!Went here on a first date and it was an excellent choice! We say outside and the views were amazing. The patio was quiet and intimate, and had excellent ambiance. Service was quick, friendly, and very helpful. The food was amazing. I highly recommend jean Farris! Will be returning.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWineryThe food here is always good-great. Very consistent. Maybe a little over priced. The problem is the wine only comes from their winery. And that wine is just not great. Decent and tolerable, not great5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous FoodThis is one of my favorite places to eat for a really amazing evening out. The food is always fresh and wonderful, and the outdoor covered patio is perfect for a relaxing evening. I took my mom here for mother's day, but it is also the perfect place for a romantic evening. I have never had a bad (or even a so-so) meal here - everything I have ever tried has been fantastic. Great friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere for such fine dining. Highly recommended.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGood FoodI wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered the rabbit, but it was very good and my wife and I had a great anniversary dinner.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMJean FarrisVery good dining experience. Consistent in all aspects of food, service and ambience. Outstanding wine. Will come again, although I always hope that the food and service will be 'outstanding,' but they don't seem to quite reach that level. Regardless, I will return. One of the better restaurants in the Lexington area.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent for CelebrationsThe service at Jean Farris was impecable. We asked for and received a nice quiet table for a special celebration. The staff freated us with great care. The food was excelent and the wines fun to sample.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent FindA friend recommended Jean Farris awhile back and I wish I had made it sooner! The wine was great, the food was inspired and the atmosphere couldn't have been better looking over the scenic vineyard.
Service was professional and prompt.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a treat to go to JeanAlways a treat to go to Jean Farris, and we weren't disappointed. Especially enjoyed the malbec offering this time. Scallops and lamb were both delicious. JF is mostenjoyable in the warm months when the porch and patio are open.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWine and dineHaving dinner at a winery is always interesting. The food was generally pretty good - the lobster papardelle was yummy and the lamb carpaccio was delicious. The short ribs were meltingly tender. The french onion soup lacked salt and needed more intense stock flavor. The grilled romaine salad had a very interesting presntation with an unusual cheese garnish, but suffered from the egg which should have made the dressing being slightly overcooked so no runny yolk. A distinctive experience and worth the drive, even if you don't drink wine. If you are a wine person, they have a lot of choices - we ended up trying a glass of five different wines (shared - we did have to drive back our hotel).4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI took a group of nine peopleI took a group of nine people and we were all in agreement--we loved this restaurant! We tried just about every entrée and dessert on the menu. They were all wonderful especially the scallops, rabbit and lobster pasta. The service was outstanding as well.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were a table of four, theWe were a table of four, the two of us live in the area and were entertaining relatives from Virginia. Everyone was impressed with the wine and food (kudos to Ben and the kitchen staff). We had to change our reservation time at the last minute and Jeanie took care of everything for us. She took time to chat with us as well and welcome my cousin and his girlfriend personally. Corey was our server and that made the evening perfect. He is always friendly, knowledgeable, and completely professional. Jean Farris is the place to go for the best of everything.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful placeWe love this place. Every time we visit Lexington we make sure to visit this restaurant. Whether you want to graze or eat a proper dinner JF promises a great dining experience. If I have to make one criticism it would be our waitress tried to rush us a bit but no doubt we will be back.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time at the winery andFirst time at the winery and I really enjoyed it. My wife and I went there for our anniversary and everything was perfect. I had the snapper and my wife had scallops. Both were top notch!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWine, Vineyards, and Great FoodWe were visiting the area for the Kentucky Derby and very happy that we made this stop. It's becoming my girlfriend and I's favorite place to eat.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food. Crowded.Very good food. Crowded. The waiter had too many tables and there were occasions where we had to wait for drinks.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, great service.Great food, great service. A little disappointed that the wine prices have gone up so much.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best meal that we haveThe best meal that we have had at Jean Farris. The chef is creative and the food delicious. Lovely to go there on a quiet week night as it is to go for a boisterous weekend celebration.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic! An unbelievable experience the everything was perfect, we love the creativity and presentation along with very high quality.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful mealWe were celebrating a retirement and found the food and wine outstanding. Our server couldn't have been nicer or more attentive. My only complaint was that we had a party of six and requested a table rather than a booth with our reservation but they could not accommodate our request. However we will return as the cuisine is too good to miss!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful Location, Fantastic FoodAnother wonderful meal. Beautiful location, perfect service, great dining experience. Looking forward to my next visit.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMenu was very interesting,Menu was very interesting, interesting combinations - but food quality was just slightly beter than average. Would definitely go again and try different dishes.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWell worth the fifteen minuteWell worth the fifteen minute drive from Lexington. Great service and attention to detail. Not a fan of prepping and cooking in plastic. The Lobster Ravioli was super. The wine was excellent.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA Lexington GemFirst time visit...Easter Brunch. We were delighted with the experience. Cozy (romantic) atmosphere, friendly and efficient service, with a diverse and sophisticated menu. This is a Lexington gem that is just miles away from us. We will definitely be returning often. A perfect place to take visitors who want to experience one of the many pleasant facets of the Bluegrass. We weren't surprised, when the people next to us, who were avowed wine enthusiasts, said they came regularly from Dayton, Ohio for the experience.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMMy companion and I had anMy companion and I had an excellent time at Jean Farris. New menu items for the Spring season coupled with newly bottled wines made for a memorable Easter Brunch. The staff was busy but managed to always provide attention to detail and check in regularly. The Easter apparel worn by the other customers including their children - ready for the egg hunt - was colorful and cheerful. Now, if only the weather would cooperate a bit more.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second time toThis was our second time to have Easter Brunch at Jean Farris. On both occasions the food, wine and service were fabulous! We are thinking brunch at Jean Farris will become a family Easter tradition.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed our evening atWe enjoyed our evening at Jean Farris. We like to take our time and start with house made charcuterie and local cheeses with a glass of their wine. The entrees were delicious and even though they didn't look large we ended up bringing some home for a great lunch. We did save enough room to share a dessert. The Bourbon tart was fantastic. I look forward to Sunday afternoons in the summer. It's nice to partake in a glass of wine and look out over their beautiful vines.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been coming here forWe've been coming here for about 2 years. Never had a bad meal. We dined in the patio room and enjoyed the beautiful view of a Kentucky sunset. The Plum Quail appetizer was delicious and the Filet Mignon with the local slow cooked duck egg was the best steak I've ever had. Well definitely be coming back again. My new favorite restaurant in Lexington!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe LOVE Jean Ferris!! WhenWe LOVE Jean Ferris!! When we found them years ago we were worried about Kentucky wine but after having our first glass of their fabulous reds our worries evaporated.
I am from Cincinnati and make the drive just for the Bistro. If I meet friends in Lexington I always take them there to introduce them to my great "find".3/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
