  • "As a full blooded Minnesotan, it was great to return to a long time great place to eat!!"

  • "Excellent food and the portions were beyond generous! Pork chops and ribs were very flavorful and tender. Atmosphere was unique and very friendly. Our server was very accommodating, we had a couple elderly diners with us that were hard of hearing, so our server spoke very clear and slowly to them and was very patient with all their questions. Great experience."

  • "Food was excellent but served too slowly like part of entree ordered delivered 10 minutes after first part."
    Dined on 8/10/2014
  • "Have never been disappointed. Had many dinners and a few brunches their. Can't wait to go again. The food is fantastic, it doesn't matter what we order it's been great. And the service is also great!"
    Dined on 8/10/2014
  • "Food was not bad, but not noteworthy. We ordered the lobster tacos as an appetizer. There were 4 of them, and there were 4 of us. One of them had no food in it! Cesear salads were not very ceseary. Main courses (scallops, shrimp scampi, steak, cheeseburger) were all okay but nothing special."

  • "I was really looking forward to our dinner before the Paul McCartney concert. We had an early reservation but they were not staffed properly. My husband said his ribs and pork chop were the best he ever had!!! Excellent! Superb! However, I order the special Steak Sterling a fillet topped with a crab cake and bernaise sauce. My dinner was cold, not even warm. The steak was very tender but cold! The waitress brought me a new warm crab cake with cold bernaise sauce. Really disappointing especially when you pay so much. The waitress was so busy she mixed up our drink order or forgot and was too busy to see if our meal was OK. I could have cooked a better dinner myself."

  • "Had looked forward to dining at a Minneapolis icon prior to Paul McCartney's concert. Was disappointed that our beverage service was slow and then when our food arrived all of our meals were cold to mildly warm which didn't make them taste very good either."

  • "We stopped here before a concert and had an early dinner on the patio. Our server was very attentive and did not rush us although it was getting very busy with other's waiting for tables. I would recommend the lobster tacos- not too heavy and served with a side of spicy pico de gallo. My husband had a steak with a crabcake on top and thought it was delicious. Their prices were medium to high depending on what you ordered with sides being ala carte. We would make a return visit."

  • "We had dinner early Saturday before the Paul McCartney concert. The service was impeccable. I wish I could remember our waitresses name. She provided one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. She was very helpful with helping to chose our dinner options and was very enthusiastic about the selections being offered. Our friends came in from out of town to have dinner and concert with us. They were very impressed by this restaurant as well. Our steaks were cooked exactly as ordered. Everything was perfect!"

  • "It had been 20 years ago the last time I went to JD Hoyts. It was a business lunch, and I lived in St Cloud at the time. I have wanted to get back to JD's for quite some time and I finally did so prior to attending a play at the Guthrie. We came through the door, and I looked around like a kid in awe of my memory. JD's was just as I remembered it, and in fact I think I sat in the same booth I did 20 years ago. Jenese (sp?) met us at the door and escorted us to our booth and was our server. Jenese was friendly, helpful, courteous, polite; everything you would want from your server. Our dining experience was really good! Great food with Cajun Catfish and a Shrimp Jambalay type dish; and a super banana ice cream dessert."

  • "The menu was great - steaks, chops, ribs, and a few seafood selections. It all looked so good. I need to go back so I can try everything. We had the cheese plate to start. It was a lot of cheese/fruit/crackers for 2 and could easily satisfy 4. It was great with our wine selection. I had the steak and crabcake and it was great with a wedge salad. Wife had filet and said it was great. Our server knew the menu cold and made some great suggestions. Prices were pretty reasonable too for the quality of food and service. But I did think some of the wines were overpriced and they have a pretty steep corkage fee if you bring your own wine in. Had a very nice time there and would definetly go back again."

  • "Totally underwhelmed with the food. Service and ambiance were good, but didn't make up for the poor tasting food. Lousy calamari, but huge portion. Burgers charred on outside, nearly raw in the middle when ordered medium. Homemade chips worse then bag chips. Thought the meal was a waste of money."

  • "This was our second time at JD's and we loved it this time as much as the first. Great service, great food and a nice quiet atmosphere. My only complaint was that I asked for my hashbrowns well done and they did not come out that way, but the rest of my meal was outstanding. We ordered lobster risotto to share--to die for!! I can't wait to go back again!! This has become our favorite place to go for a good steak/nice dinner that doesn't break the bank!"

  • "Share the pork chops - they're great. Great stopping off point before Twins games. A little noisy and not the best ambience outside but not bad either."

  • "Great place to take any business partner or client to. Great service, great food, good atmosphere."

  • "I was there for a first official date. The food was excellent, however the noise level is a little overwhelming when trying to have a get to know each other conversation. Fun atmosphere with great service."

  • "Great place to eat. Huge food portions. Excellent service. Went there on a friend's recommendation, and it delivered. I guess I'll keep him around for a while until he screws up."

  • "We have eaten here several times and always great! My husband loves the gumbo here. With the cheese bread they bring you, don't really need to order and appetizer unless maybe with a large group or big appetites. We have and the corn bread with honey, awesome! Our son always gets the salmon, I usually stick to the ribs, my favorite! I have had the small filet which is really enough for a woman's appetite, my husband has had the pork chop and that was incredible and tender too. Dessert is delicious also, the grilled bananas is great and enough to share."

  • "Food and service were wonderful. The pork chop was delicious; best ever. Would suggest you split order because no one could eat two. Prices are high; salad was extra; anchovies on salad were extra."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "This was our second time at JD Hoyt's. The pork chops are amazing as is the steak. I had swordfish which was very good too. It's a bit on the expensive side, but it's downtown and has good food. For example a glass of generic Pinot Noir wine was $14, and a small piece of chocolate cake was $10. We both enjoyed our main courses but weren't impressed with the desserts. Overall we enjoyed our meals and will go back for our next special night."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "Steak was good, everything else unremarkable to poor, considering the price."

  • "We had tickets to the theater, even though it was a distance we decided to give JD Hoyt's a try and we were not disappointed. The valet parking was very convenient. The server made sure everything went like clock work. She was very attentive to our needs and was very pleasant. I had the pork chop/rib combo, it was wonderful. The chop was moist and flavorful. The rib was a dry rub but came with a side of Bbq sauce, did not need the sauce the ribs were mouth watering. Would definitely go back."

  • "My fiance and I had our engagement dinner at Hoyts. Pat was so good to us and the food is AMAZING. This will forever be a favorite date night"

  • "We took a couple of fathers on Father's Day. They are famous for their pork chops and rightly so. They're perfectly done and huge. Our server was the best we've had in a while. She was knowledgeable, efficient, and had a personality that added to our dining experience. While the place was pretty busy there was a very acceptable noise level, which is a wonderful change of pace from many of the newer restaurants that seem to think jet plane noise levels add energy."

  • "Great tasting brunch selection. Reasonable price. Came for Father's Day with family. Ample room."

  • "Second time I have been to JD Hoyts. Little on the expensive side, but for what you get - it is a very good deal and nice time."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "except for the porkchops-which were excellent as always-food was very bland and flavorless, esp the halibut which was awful (like eating sawdust).Kind of a let down-Hoyts has always been so consistent."
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "Highly suggested destination, turned out to be a new favorite for us. The ambiance and service were perfect and the food was impressive both in appearance and flavor. The suggested pork chops were as amazing as described, and the steaks were cooked to perfection. We will definitely be returning."

  • "WE LOVED OUR TIME AT HOYT'S! THE CAJUN FLAVORED CHOPS WERE EXCELLENT & THE BISCUITS & GRAVY WERE A REAL NEW DELECTABLE EXPERIENCE! GREAT, FRIENDLY, SWIFT SERVERS WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH ADDED TO THE FUN AS WELL! "

  • "This is far and away the best brunch in town! I have loved it for years and it never disappoints!"

  • "This was our first visit to Hoyts for brunch, we have had lunch and dinner numerous times. When we read the list of items for the brunch we thought it was family style to share, when we received eat each person was served everything 2 sausage links, two pork chops, a slice of ham, a pile of scrambled eggs, two biscuits with enough gravy for 8 and cajun hashbrowns. Trying to decide what to eat first was the challenge. Half of mine came home with me. If you love brunch but hate the buffet style ones you NEED to go to Hoyts you definitely wont leave hungry. If you dont want all that food they do have other options, one in our group had the french toast which looked and was amazing. Another great dining experience at Hoyts."

  • "Incredible food with even better service. Very reasonable for the menu offering. "
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "The pork chops are out of this world. For under $30, you and another person can split the two-chop plate and still have enough to bring home. We went for an early dinner when the twins were not playing in town so it was pretty low-key. The toddler and infant we had in our group were welcome and were able to eat the sides, I didn't ask about a kids menu. We love going here for dinner because it is always really great food and friendly, attentive service."

  • "This was the first time dining at JD Hoyt's and the entire party had an enjoyable time. Everyone loved the food, and the service was excellent. Kate, our server, was pleasant and knowledgeable. We would definitely dine here again. The prices were quite reasonable, which is something for me to say, as I am notoriously cheap! "

  • "They do not offer a kids menu, but were willing to accommodate for my young kids. I ordered what I thought was a safe choice for a side (mac & cheese), but it was too gourmet for them. My kids like steak but again, they were too gourmet for them. Dessert was a hit!"
