  • "I am not generally a huge steak eater, but when the steak spaulding came out and I cut into it, it was perfect. Exactly the way I ordered it, and the mix of steak, crab, bernaise, awesome! None of our party had been there before even though we have all lived here forever. We just thought it was time and we were not disappointed."

  • "This was without a doubt the finest pork chop I've ever eaten. It was grilled to perfection and delightfully tender and moist. It had no tenderizer overly salted brine flavor so I do not know how they got this pork chop this tender. It was cooked medium and was fork tender. I also loved the pork rib lollypop appetizers with the Jamaican sauce. I would put this over my ribs which were also excellent. We had asparagus cooked perfectly and a nice side salad. The service was great and ambience just plain fun!! I always come to JD Hoyt's when I'm in Minneapolis for business. Awesome place to entertain."

  • "My family took me to JD Hoyt's for my Birthday and it was a great evening! The service was top notch, my Pink Lady martini was tastey tastey, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner selections. My husband said the pork chops were as amazing as usual. The lobster risotto and the Cajun hash browns were flavorful nummy sides. We all enjoyed the variety of ala carte dishes to choose from to create a really great meal....and the prices are reasonable too! We will definitely be back!"

  • "I've been here twice, and honestly is some of the best food in Minneapolis. I don't think I can think of a single complaint whatsoever. Filet was the best I've ever had. We had trout was well. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Ps: You can get a table almost anytime! A++"

  • "I have tried most of the notable and trendy steak places in the Twin Cities. However, this was my first time at Hoyt's. The steak was one of the best I've had. I had a filet and my husband had a porterhouse. Both were cooked to specification. The Au gratins were also good. The fried banana dessert was delicious. Service was outstanding. I was really surprised that this place surpassed many of the trendier more talked about venues in my opinion. I will be back."

  • "This was my first time at JD Hoyt's, I can see why there's an obesity epidemic by the amount of butter, cream and cheese that's plopped over absolutely everything and the unnecessarily huge portions. My shrimp, which the waitress claimed were "outstanding" were overcooked and tough. I can cook shrimp better than that, so I was disappointed. Our server was a doll, she was so sweet and busy but attentive. My friend's salmon sandwhich was also overcooked. I'll have to go back and get some real meat and see how they treat their steak."

  • "We decided to dine at Hoyt's (one of our favorite places) since it was St Patricks day and we hoped it would be a little quieter there than the other restaurants. There was 1-2 tables of people in the dining room at any time. The bar had 2-3 tables & 4-6 people at the bar. The only issue we had was the bartender could not handle things. We would have had more beverages and also dessert but we had such a hard time getting her attention to order that we didnt bother. I actually asked her what her name was after about an hour so that we could get her attention. It didnt ruin our meal or evening but just wasnt up to the usual great service we get their. We will definitely be back but in the dining room"

  • "I found an Amazon 2 for 1 coupon, $15 for two brunches. The brunches are enormous. We could have easily split one and been too full. Two spicy cajun pork chops, a thin slice of wonderful ham, two tasty sausages, southern style hash browns, what must have been five scrambled eggs, two little biscuits and a cup of very peppery sausage gravy, and (who needed more?) beignets. The restaurant is a light, wood themed area, tin ceilings, near North Minneapolis. The service was great. My wife is not a spicy food person, so struggled with the cajun spicing, but loved the tastes even so. Even the coffee was top notch."

  • "We met friends for dinner, had a glass of wine at the bar before dinner at 6pm. Plenty of rm at the bar. Had a great dinner, wonderful service, two of us had the spectacular chops! Stopped at the bar after dinner, pretty crowded at that point, felt in the way of servers due to tight bar area at that time. Hoyt's has a great energy, attentive servers and management. Would definitely go back! Great location right off 394, easy meter and valet parking."

  • "Had a great brunch here last weekend with my family. It started with excellent service from our waitress, Jody, who was a delight. We ordered the all you can eat brunch and barely made it through the first plate. Everything was wonderful, except the eggs, which were obviously some sort of imitation egg. Overall a great dining experience and we'll be back."

  • "First time here...the service was awesome. I had steak covered with crab cake and bearnaise sauce...asparagus and hashbrowns. It waz really good. My husband had swordfish...not so great..dry and pretty bland. The ambiance and decor is not fancy, it is like a fancied up Perkins with a bar but overall its a nice place with good food, good wine list and good service. We paid anout $100 for our meal with 2 glasses of wine and an appetizer. Its not cheap but also not horribly expensive. We would come back."

  • "We were expecting more of a 'steak house' type of menu but the menu fell far short. The menu was pretty loaded with Cajun and Jamaican types of dishes which again was not what we were expecting since we were eating at a 'steak house'. The appetizers were quite unappealing but we tried the Buddy Bowl to see how it was and it turned out to be unimpressive. I had the bone in rib eye steak which was good and my wife had the scallops which were lousy. They were dry and over cooked with no flavor at all other than the smokey flavor from the grill. The vegetables were very average and the desert was right up there with Applebee's. With a bill of over $100 (no alcohol) we were very disappointed and would rate the food at average to below average."

  • "Rosie & I make it a point to get down to the restaurant for every Valentines day. The soft background music is very nice and the ambience of the table setting along with soft lighting is very romantic. The food is over the top, their signature Pork chops or Ribs are second to none and sides and deserts very nice.   • "I heard so many good reviews. So we decided to come here for Valentine's Day. I have to say I am disappointed. We made a reservation, but didn't get seated until 20 min later. I don't know what reservation means to them but 20 min wait for a table? That doesn't sound right. We ordered buddy bowl which is really salty. Pork chop is very dry. My steak is good.... yeah, 100 dollar a meal, only the small piece of steak is good. I don't think we will come back again."

  • "I love JD Hoyt's for it's food and if you are nostalgic, it looks like a restaurant from the 40's. They could improve the atmosphere easily by getting rid of the hideous vinyl table cloths and paper covering the vinyl. It's not like the vinyl is protecting precious wood tables, they're formica. Anyway, if they'd invest in a white linen and laundry service, the place would be a bit nicer. But I guess it doesn't stop their fans from coming anyway. The food is great and I love the option of individual, sharing or family-style portions."

  • "The brunch was overly seasoned to the point of being unenjoyable. All 3 of the people in my party felt the same way. This was surprising because the dinner menu at this restaurant is really tasty. Also, the service was terrible. It took an hour for our food to come out and our waitress was extremely rude. After this brunch experience, I will not be returning to this restaurant and neither will the other people in my party."
