JCT Kitchen and Bar provides an upscale yet casual dining experience with a menu reminiscent of family favorites that are elevated to a gourmet level.   • "Overall I had a nice meal but I'm not sure why this place is the talk of the town right now. The fried chicken is good but I wouldn't call it anything special. The cornbread was pretty delicious, though. My salad was light on dressing and seasoning so it was just missing something. The fried pork rillettes were a cool idea but they just didn't really pan out. Didn't taste like a rillette anymore... it was basically breaded and fried pulled pork. Certainly an interesting way of serving it, especially from a presentation standpoint(instead of the usual of it being in a jar or ramekin) but being heated like it was it lost that creaminess that makes a rillette so enjoyable. Needs to be more entree options. Stick to drinks and small plates. "

  • "Food was fantastic, but service faltered after the order was taken. Side dishes ordered didn't show up with the entrees and we couldn't find our waiter to flag him down to tell him. As a result we were 2/3 of the way through our meal until the sides showed up. This was our second visit, and the same thing happened on our first visit. But we'll be back to give it another try because the food is wonderful. Just need to pay attention to the service details."

  • "Went early so we didn't have to worry about them running out of food. The spouse loved the "angry mussels" and I enjoyed the soup. Mixed drinks were well made. Service was excellent (which is expected when the restaurant is half empty). But the fried chicken is mediocre. I've had much better at Mary Macs, Cornerstop Cafe (Lawrenceville), and others. The breading was bland. I'm not even sure I would put it above fast food and grocery store fried chicken. The serving sizes of the dishes were appropriate (not too large or small). Given the relatively limited menu, I would likely not go back anytime soon. We enjoyed the experience and felt the service was great. But, in the end, I can't justify a pricey entree that is just mediocre."

  • "The menu is wonderfully creative and diverse - also loved the great options of specialty bar drinks (I tried the Americana in Paris). I had the swordfish special and it was awesome - very moist and simple spicing. Other members of my party had the pork chop, steak and friend chicken. The venue is tucked back in the corner of a multi food establishment complex. The décor is farmhouse-spare. The service was prompt and attentive. Will go back again to try some of the fantastic looking desserts!"

  • "I'd read mostly good reviews with a few clunkers thrown in and I was completely unprepared for the delicious meal my wife and I had. The fried chicken was beautifully done and flavorful, only thing needed was a bit of salt for the dark meat - so I was very impressed that they didn't oversalt it. My wife had the veggie plate and wasn't impressed when it came out but she said that every bite was delicious. The coconut cake we shared for dessert was nice and used milk or cream kind of like a tres leche cake. It was one of the best meals I've had in my 12 years in Atlanta. Bravo!"

  • "The food was fine--nothing more; the much-praised fried chicken dry and lukewarm. Even if the food had been great, however, our meal would have been ruined by the service. Servers swooping in to grab plates from people who were still lifting forks from plate to mouth; waiter constantly up-selling; he also brought, opened, and poured a beer and only then acknowledged that they had run out of the beer actually ordered and he'd substituted another."

  • "Four of us decided on JCT for a birthday celebration for one of the girlfriends. What a great spot. Some bubbly, some appetizers (you've got to get the Angry Mussels), we all had fried chicken and 2 sides (the brussel sprouts, collards and mac & cheese were delicious), wine, more bubbly and coconut cake. Our waitress was excellent. Our food arrived in a timely fashion. There was not a single negative in the entire evening. And what a fun, quirky "after dinner mint".... lemon heads:) We will all be back!"

  • "We are trying the Ford Frye empire. This one's food is not as good as the optimist or King + Duke. The parmesan fries were the best in the world! We gobbled the whole bowl. The mac and cheese was flavored with bacon. Nobody liked this dish. The fried chicken was delicious, the best in Atlanta. All the other dishes were good but not outstanding. The decor is terrific. Draperies are used to deafen the noise. I would go back but I prefer the other two spots."

  • "I had heard this was a great place, and it's a favorite amongst my friends, but my experience was ruined by my server. Loud, obnoxious and pretty rude. Food was excellent and the drinks are superb. However the highlights of my night were when the runners brought me my food and drinks. They were well-mannered, and did everything with a smile. The jerk we had for a server was even upset we didn't want dessert (or so gave the impression he was). Sorry JCT, you may be a favorite of my friends, but you're not one of mine."

  • "I have been to King and Duke, The optimist, and JCT definitely did not disappoint. As soon as you walk in you get put in a good mood. Atmosphere is energetic, lively and fit for groups or a nice date night. Attire ranges from jeans and a nice shirt to suits. Our server was amazing. Incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and her recommendations were excellent. Must try the 'Angry Mussels" Not as spicy as it was made out to be but that is okay. The grilled bread dipped in the broth immediately puts a smile on your face. so good! We tried 80 % of their house made cocktails. All were well made regardless of how much I liked the actually drink. GF and I had the shrimp and grits and the pork chop. Food was great. highly recommend!"

  • "I took my mother in law and family from out of town. The last time we went to JCT we had lunch and it was perfect. Amazing food, wine and great atmosphere. This time for dinner we had similar expectations. It's such a beautiful restaurant in a great spot however the food was really lacking. I ordered the fried chicken and it seemed like the chicken was old and tough. Also the collard greens are normally this amazing creation however this time it was just overcooked collard greens swimming in a bowl of tasteless water... My Mother in law's steak was tough. I woud say we enjoyed our cocktails, the deviled eggs appetizer and my daughter liked her mac and cheese however the entrees were really lacking."

  • "This is the 2nd consecutive time dining at a Ford Fry restaurant where the service started out good but then fell off. In this particular example - our server said she was going to being new wine glasses for our 2nd bottle of wine - I think she bought 2 but forgot about the other 3 as there were 5 wine drinkers at the table. After our appetizers/salad plates were cleared along with the silverware and our entrees came - we had to ask 2-3 people to get silverware in order to begin eating our meal. The food was good but the final experience not so much. It was a Saturday night and the place was packed but they should know that and have a process in place for servers to replace wine glasses and especially utensils."

  • "My wife and I went to JCT Kitchen for a date night, and it was fantastic! The noise was not too loud but definitely energetic. The stars of the night were the food and the service. The Parmesan fries were delicious, the shrimp and grits were tasty and my steak was superbly prepared. The kale was great, too! Yum!"

  • "I'm not kidding. My wife and I have been to JCT before and knew it was good. This time, our meal was perfect! We started with the deviled eggs and angry mussels. The eggs are a must and we end up fighting over the last one. The mussels had just the right amount of heat from the peppers and smokiness from the bacon. Don't fill up on the bread when it comes out. Save it for the mussel broth. We split the pork chop which was nearly 2 inches thick. The crust was crisp and sweet with a great char flavor. We've had some amazing meals but there was something about this one that left us wondering if this was the best meal we had ever had. We still can't think of a better one. We will be back."

  • "JCT had the ambiance that reflects a young, vibrant, and trendy atmosphere. The food was experimental, but not to a point where you didn't know what you were eating - it was, rather, familiar ingredients that were mixed in creative ways. My dining partner had the pork chop, and confessed that it was probably the best he's ever had. I had the chicken dish, and the meat was tender, but maybe a little too dry for my taste on the inside. Our waitress was a wonderful delight - she gave recommendations that were well worth trying (such as the pork chop), and had a very warm and inviting personality. Intimate small groups work best in this environment, as it is candlelit and dim lighting overall, but it looked like many larger groups enjoyed, too."

  • "We had a group of six, told the waitress from the beginning that we wanted to be out in time for a play we were seeing. We gave ourselves nearly two hours for dinner. The food and service were initially good and fast. Then they filled up and we didn't see our waitress for a while. She never offered another drink order, even it had just been water! The waitress suggested we order dessert, came back with the dessert menus and then never came back again to get our order, by the time she returned we had to hurriedly get our check and get out so we could get to the play. The valets were friendly and fast, nice touch to then end of evening when we were in such a hurry."

  • "I asked for a table away from the kitchen. When the four of us got there, we had a table in front of the kitchen. I asked the hostess to please move us so she put us at a smaller table. I asked if we could have the table next to us. It was a four seater but a bigger table. She said this was the best she could do and that table was reserved? Dah, so was ours. The table next to us sat empty even after we were leaving. No longer my favorite and will probably not return"

  • "Every year my company hosts a Leadership Conference in a difference city. As a thank you to my team, I take my leaders out to a special dinner to celebrate their accomplishments. I do a lot of research and choose a restaurant that is locally owned, off the beaten path and features regional gourmet food. JCT Kitchen fit the bill and we were not disappointed. Starting with the cool vibe as we walked through the door, to the chic and cozy dining room to the fabulous food - we had a wonderful evening!"

  • "JCT is just another blur of a restaurant in the Atlanta hipster scene. Deviled eggs for appetizers were good, but no better than my Aunt Rita's. Parmesan fries appetizer was bland. The fried chicken was good, but nothing special. Same goes for the shrimp and grits. Nothing was bad about the food, but it lacked creativity, pop, or inspiration. I figure if I can get the same dish in a church basement, there is no reason for me to sit down at a poorly lit table and pay too much money for it in a restaurant that wants me to believe that the up-charge somehow makes the food taste better. Because it really doesn't."
