Great venue for jazz in a small
club. Food was Okay, not especially terrific bbq, but the drinks were excellent. A place to enjoy music more than food."

Great food and fantastic music.
Took my wife here for valentine's day - she is a jazz lover, and she was so happy with the experience. The ribs are fantastic, and the sweet potato fries were the best I've ever had. It can be a little cramped - it was a holiday - so depending on where you sit, there isn't much elbow room/room to spread out. But, still, we had a fun filled, music filled, romantic evening!"

Where else in NYC can you hear
great jazz and eat terrific barbeque? The food comes from Blue Smoke upstairs, and the ribs are fantastic. The jazz programs vary greatly, something for every taste. Good sightlines and acoustics. Never a minimum. This is my favorite place for jazz, and I am a born and bred Newyorker."
Dined on 1/26/2014
The food and the music were
outstanding. I just wish the food could be served sooner so that we could better enjoy the music."
Dined on 1/17/2014
Good food and a genuine jazz club
setting. Well executed with seating and service. A must visit venue."
Dined on 12/30/2013
very strange event- the waiter
dropped the wrong order at my table- came back about three minutes later asked of we touched the food took it away and apologized- disappeared for 1 minute then clearly dropped the same food at the table next to us- both my party and the party next to us say this and were astounded- the waiter was called out on this and the took the food away and brought them a new order, otherwise one of the best jazz venues and bbq restaurants in NY."
Dined on 11/19/2013
Food is mediocre and over
priced...stick with an appetizer or two and a beer. Nice ambience for good jazz."
Dined on 11/3/2013
4 of us had the best time at the
Jazz Standard. We had hush puppies, and mac and cheese, and barbeque. The Kansas City Ribs were really good, the brisket also. The sweet potato wedges were the best but it was all about the mashed potatoes. They were to die for, I am still thinking about how delicious they were. The service was perfect. They had a decent selection of beer and I loved the hard cider. Great place, I can't wait to go back."
Dined on 11/2/2013
eat before you get there. Myself
and my party enjoyed everything about this place, except that the food was forgettable. The only thing that made an impression was the beer, wine, and the dessert sampler...and of course the show! So come hear the music, but dont plan on any culinary mastery."
Dined on 11/3/2013
Very good food and excellent
music. What a fun night! Even if every seat is a good seat, its worth it to get there when the doors open to choose your best vantage point. Great, great fun!"
Dined on 11/2/2013
Attentive service, respectful
audience, great performers. "nuf said"
Dined on 10/18/2013
Wonderful jazz in a quiet
atmosphere. The audience is properly oriented, and the show is not disturbed by the service. Excellent food and service! A+ !"
Dined on 10/22/2013
Excellent venue combining good
food with quality music in an intimate setting with good acoustics."
Dined on 9/28/2013
I went there to take my date out
for his birthday and it was beautiful dinner. Very romantic setting."
Dined on 9/28/2013
Jazz still lives in NYC and in
particular at the Jazz Standard. Plus, a menu offering many of your barbecue favorites. So, if you like your jazz with some good barbecue, the Jazz Standard is the spot."
Dined on 9/15/2013
Jazz Standard draws some really
great talent to play, the acoustics were good and if you get in early you can pick your own prime seating (first come, first serve, arrive 30 minutes early for the best seats). I thought the food they served from blue smoke downstairs was average, but I visit the Blue Smoke in Battery Park often enough and I know they're capable of more, this may have been an off night. Also, great bourbon/rye/whiskey/beer menu. Not unreasonably priced for a captive audience."

We went to see Gregory Porter,
which by the way was a fantastic show. This was our third time at the Jazz Standard and I still say the staff, the food, the service and the overall ambience was outstanding. We are definitely looking forward to coming back very soon."
Dined on 8/24/2013
Wonderful Jazz club and the BBQ
was better than expected and relatively inexpensive by NYC standards. Great evening!"
Dined on 8/19/2013
If you are a Jazz lover this is
the place for you! Great music and even better service. Food was amazing! Will definitely return!!!!"
Dined on 8/19/2013
food, service and of course the
music are always great here. one of my favorite places in the city."
Dined on 8/16/2013
Have been here many times, they
have jazz every night with first rate artists. The room is nice, sound is really good. In addition, the BBQ/Southern menu, which it shares with Blue Smoke, the restaurant upstairs, is excellent. We really enjoyed our dinner. The waiter was very friendly and helpful as well. Great place."
Dined on 8/10/2013
Nice place, good service, but very
average uninspired food. Nothing we ate was bad, but aging nothing was memorable. We took the dessert sampler (one of each) and that was equally uninspired. The bill was way too high for what we ate, making it a poor value for money. Will not be returning."

Living in NYC, this was our third
visit to this wonderful jazz club. I have found most Jazz clubs in NYC to be very small, with tables barely big enough. But the Jazz Standard is a pleasantly intimate environment without feeling like your neighbor is sitting in your lap. The club holds just over 100 people and every seat is within 25 feet of the band, many much closer. However, some tables have more direct views than others. I highly recommend reserving your table beforehand or you may be left with an obstructed view. I like sitting a little farther away (drums and horns can be loud!) and at the table that is slightly elevated. But the people sitting 2 feet away certainly looked content. Highly recommend the baby back ribs!"
Dined on 7/21/2013
The food is always so good;
whether you choose the ribs or the veggie burger you'll be happy; the mint julep is great; and then we heard some wonderful music."
Dined on 7/7/2013
We had a fantastic experience,
being it was our second trip to JS. The main reasons we pick the Jazz Standard/Blue Smoke is for the great jazz and great food and they are both well worth the trip. Also the stage can be seen from anywhere in the club and the Staff are very helpful and attentive. We will definitely return again."
Dined on 7/12/2013
The Jazz Standard is primarily a
music venue! Therefore "Question Number Two" does not offer the applicable answers! I highly recommend the Jazz Standard for the following reasons: The room has good acoustics. The room has been designed to give almost every table a sight line to the stage. The wait staff is sweet, and respectful of the fact that the crowd is there to listen to music."
Dined on 6/3/2013
can not go wrong in a place that
you can get 2 of your senses to come to life in a harmonies way! sit back and enjoy a good dinner, drinks or appetizer along with an ear full of awesome tunes... weather its a blast from the past or the more current melodies, this place offers a full nite of entertainment!"
Dined on 5/18/2013
Had a great time at Jazz Standard.
Cover fee was 30$, which is quite standard for such a place. Had the chance to listen to an awesome trio. Food is not extremely elaborate but is flavorful and at a fair price. Service is attentive. Good wine list. Arrive at least 30 minutes before the time of your reservation if you want good seats! And dress casually!"
Dined on 5/27/2013
Quality reigns -- Food was a cut
above and distinctive, service was attentive and unobtrusive and the live jazz filled the room, moved us to special time and place. It made for a memorable evening."
Dined on 5/26/2013
Always amazed to get food this
good in a jazz club."
Dined on 5/13/2013
Excellent barbecue, outstanding
jazz in great conditions what else ?"
Dined on 5/5/2013
I always bring friends here. Great
place for a REAL NYC jazz experience. And the bar be que is the best in the city."
Dined on 5/4/2013
It was our first time there and we
will definately come back again. The food, the staff and the Jazz were fantastic. I plan to recommend it to my friends as a great night out."
Dined on 5/2/2013
Jazz Standard is about the music,
really--but surprisingly decent food (BBQ and burgers especially), and more importantly, the service is consistently friendly and accommodating. The staff goes out of its way to make patrons happy and are quite efficient, given the fact that they have to work quietly and unobtrusively while a performance is going on."
Dined on 5/1/2013
The service is very good and the
food is fine, but we went for the jazz, which was stellar."
Dined on 4/19/2013
With Randy Weston performing it
was a special occasion. The delicious food and excellent service in addition to the great concert made it an outstanding experience. And the non- meat choices are better than in most vegetarian restaurants."
Dined on 4/5/2013
If this were a Yelp review, it
might be a bit more positive. Instead, as an OpenTable review more focused on food, I would not recommend it. It is a great spot for live jazz: the group we saw was quite good, and the atmosphere is decent although larger than most jazz spots. But the service is spotty - took forever for us to put in a dinner order, ordered drinks and one person was served theirs, while e other person had to wait 15 minutes for theirs to arrive, etc. But the trouble is the food: it's ordered from Blue Smoke upstairs, and its not very good. The macaroni and cheese tasted like a Velveeta concoction and had a metallic aftertaste, the fried chicken was incredibly dry. Go for the music, eat before/after elsewhere."
