Diner Reviews
  • "I the seafood was very fresh and the staff wea well educated on how the meals were prepared. Wine list was a joy to try. What made the night was the interesting special drinks an a oyster bar selection that is hard to find any better in landlocked Colorado. We will return often. Downside was the parking. "

  • "I took my mom and sister to brunch to celebrate mom's birthday. Jax was definitely the right choice. The jax group playing was great, our service was over the top and his recommendations were spot on. We're definitely going to become regulars."

  • "The oysters were amazing, the Branzino was delicious and the service was good too - not great but good! "

  • "The food at Jax is unfortunately NOT good. We ordered a Calamari appetizer that was cooked in oil that must have been 100 years old, leaving the calamari tasting like overcooked hush puppies from Red Lobster. The grilled romaine salad at Jax was OK, but not special. The Black Cod entree was over cooked to the point that it was barely edible, and the gnocchi it was served with was so undercooked it was actually inedible, basically just raw flour paste. I'm embarrassed to have used such bad manners in public, but I had to spit it out as I could not swallow it! On top of it all, Jax charges for bread! This is not a classy move at a restaurant in this price range (apps $9-$15; entrees $25+). Oysters at Jax= $4 each. Others in town = $1-$2. :("

  • "Don't let the lack of parking keep you from dining at this Jax location. The food was absolutely delicious. Everything is very fresh and the combinations / flavors were creative and not your run-of-the-mill dishes. Our server made excellent suggestions, the food was delivered in a very timely manner (we had apps and entrees and we weren't rushed, nor did we have to wait between courses), and all of the staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. It's loud and the seating is tight so I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a romantic dining experience. When the weather is really nice you're best bet is to dine outside."

  • "Happy hour dishes are great, but not so with dinner menu--very small amount and expensive."

  • "Food good, way too loud had to scream to hear anyone at the table. The acoustics are just awful. The restaurant had a nice outdoor area and enclosed patio but need to do something about the noise level."

  • "Parking situation is horrible at new Glendale location with the garage shared with a busy hotel. The atmosphere is good but the food was just okay. The gumbo was great and the sea bass tasted old. I would recommend ordering it."

  • "Really enjoyed this new location of Jax. Highly recommended. Highlights: Outstanding service from Kristin and the rest of the staff. We had a table for 8, which seemed out of the ordinary for Jax (they combined two 4-tops). We made lots of requests, and everyone handled our visit beautifully, from initial greeting to saying goodnight. The pan-seared halibut - with English peas, etc. - was fantastic. Crab cake was mostly crab meat and delicious. The oysters were beautifully presented, fresh, and tasty. Free valet, so no worries about parking. Not-as-great: This isn't a place to order dessert (and dessert isn't my thing). The desserts seemed fairly average, though the lemon one was quite nice. The PB&J doughnut holes didn't work."

  • "Jax is a vibrant restaurant, with an excellent happy hour, of drinks and oysters. We had dinner and all of our choices were well designed and executed, down to the risotto. We shared the dessert special, which was a take on a key lime pie. It was unusual and delicious. Service was quick, knowledgeable and thorough. I love the activity of the whole area. What was recently a dead, bland, generic block quickly became a lively environment with numerous choices for food!"

  • "I have been to Jax many times. usually downtown. cherry creek is not nearly as cozy. I am a fish lover and had to send my fish back. it literally had no flavor and the veggies with it were overcooked. the rest of the meal was wonderful. I take issue with the wine list as well. they need help. overall it's a 3. some great, some bad things at Jax. this may be my last visit for a while."

  • "Went here for 5280, and everything was good. Came here on the last time, and they were out of a lot of items, for an expensive seafood place how do you run out of oysters on a Friday night??? The food was also just ok, not worth the price they charge. Probably will not go back!!!"

  • "I never had a good meal at the downtown location and was reluctant to try it when they opened in Glendale. Have been to this location 4 times now and it keeps getting BETTER -amazing turn of events for Denver! Just had Florida Grouper special on kale-fish was perfect-pan seared to that beautiful brown on the outside, moist inside, fresh. The kale had a yum mustard vinaigrette ....definitely recommend."

  • "We frequent Jax because it truly is an amazing experience. The atmosphere is modern and very clean. The staff is knowledgeable of not only the food but drinks and specials--took 10 minutes to explain the different types of oysters--who knew? Service is always friendly and the food impeccable. We will continue to frequent this gem."

  • "The food will always keep me coming back, even if prices can be high. But they always have fresh seafood so it is understandable. I slightly lowered the rating because I've had amazing service in the past and last time our waitress was nice but hardly there."

  • "Considering the location, this is a welcome (if somewhat predictable) incarnation of the JAX brand in the burgeoning Glendale food court. As in LoDo, the place is dominated by the bar. The happy hour is equally good, and perhaps the best reason to go. More ambitious entrees and larger plates are generally good, though (again as in LoDo) the care of cooking may not always be commensurate with the lofty prices. Plans for an upstairs / open air space opening soon should make for an even more vibrant happy hour scene."

  • "This restaurant is always busy. We made an early reservation and were seated promptly by the window as requested. All food was good. Happy hour prices are very good, but I don't eat most of the items on the happy hour menu I had a crab cake appetizer, which was very good, but could have been a bit larger, my husband had the gumbo which he said was great."

  • "three lunches just to eat were made special here. ask for audrey or table 85. food is as good as it gets in denver. we miss the oyster bar in nyc's grand central. this is not close, but it is the best this far from salt water. we love it and will go back again and again"

  • "We came half-expecting a franchised fish house but the food amazed us by being extremely fresh, tasty and very well conceived. The flavours were unique and the overall experience was great. We usually leave some scraps on the plate, but this time we polished off every morsel, which is really saying a lot if you know us!"

  • "They bring in fresh food all the time. It's a bit pricy but worth it for the quality. This was my first ever raw oyster experience but I wasn't disappointed but also do not have much to compare it to. I will definitely be back when my wallet allows it :)"

  • "The food was good but not great. Our server was competent but annoying -- he couldn't read the vibe at the table at all and constantly interrupted our conversations."

  • "Good food and good drinks. Parking is very, very easy, making this location superior to the ones downtown and in Boulder."

  • "We have always loved going to Jax downtown but now that they have opened a restaurant in this location, we will go to Glendale. No parking hassles, bigger, airier space and the same great fresh seafood and fish. Oysters for happy hour were fresh and tasty. My husband had the special, albacore tuna and pork belly which he said was outstanding. I had the swordfish which was light and served with roasted root veggies. A pleasant evening at a reasonable price."

  • "Went with a friend for his birthday. As YELP reviews note, the service was slow, though because we wanted to spend a long time talking, it was for us, pleasantly leisurely and not rushed. The food was not really outstanding in any way but it was priced up there with far better restaurants. "Peel and Eat" shrimp, for example: $12 for about 15 small shrimp on a vast plate filled with squirted swirls of something and enough cocktail sauce for 7 shrimp. "Beet salad" was greens with exactly 4 quarter inch cubes of beet, 4 red, 1 yellow. Entree was "barramunda" which was decently cooked but the piece could not have been more than 6 oz. for about $28. Not likely to go back, there are better places for a lot less."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "The food was great but the service was slow and inattentive. It was hard to fully enjoy the food because we (a party of three) waited for everything. I will probably not return. This was my third time at this Jax location and the service has deteriorated each time."

  • "Had a family dinner out with our 9 & 8 year olds. Everything we ordered was very good (oysters, salad, mussels, fish entrees). Server was fantastic and great recommendations from the sommelier. Highly recommend this spot. Only issue will be parking once everyone catches on..."

  • "Expensive. This is the second time I have gone to Jax and have been surprised at the final cost. A glass of red wine is $11.25, for example, which I think is high. In Glendale, the taxes are also higher than in Denver, so you get hit with that at the end, too. Fun bar scene, lively atmosphere. Go there if money is not an issue."

  • "We came here few times since the restaurant opened. We always left the restaurant with big smile on our face, and of course, full stomach. This place is AWESOME!!"

  • "My wife and I went out on a date night and decided to try a new restaurant. So we heard Jax was good and there was a new one that opened up in Glendale. Here is our impression of this newly opened restaurant. The food quality and choice were top notch. And the flavors of the food were really good as well. However, the portion sizes were very small. My wife and I ordered the halibut special and the fish was only about 2.5 inches wide and about 1 inch thick. The vegetables, pasta and sauce that came with it were barely enough to satisfy our appetite. Our waiter was good, but he was slow. I think they need more waiters per section. And for the prices they are charging, I would think the portion sizes could be larger."

  • "Visited Jax for the first time this past weekend for Denver Restaurant Week. I must say the overall experience was absolutely outstanding from the time we walked in to the time we walked out! The service we received from the staff (hostess, wait staff, and even the valet) was excellent and everyone was very friendly. The food was killer! The oysters? By far the best I've had in Dtown! As for the rest of our meal, not one thing was disappointing. The food was cooked to perfection and the presentation flawless. Love the unique selection of the Colorado (and neighboring states) draft beers on tap too! Whether it's for brunch, lunch, HH or dinner..I am already looking forward to my next visit! Either way I plan to try them all out!"

  • "We enjoy Jax in Glendale because it's convenient and has a variety of great seafood. I had my birthday dinner there on the 28th. We ordered the peel and eat shrimp for my 7 year old daughter thinking it was a shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were very small (the smallest I've ever seen served at any restaurant), and covered in a sauce and lots of spices. Hence, she couldn't peel the shrimp so I had to take the time to peel the tiny shrimp before she could eat. My husband and I ordered the expensive seafood platter with a great variety of cold seafood. The same shrimp was provided in this also which was a disappointment. I would expect at least large enough shrimp to easily peel, and to enjoy. We ordered mixed drinks which were very weak."

  • "This was my very first time sice they had open,I was there for restaurant week and I was very very exited about it.. Until the portions started to come out. The flavor of the food it's GREAT..!!! But I was hoping the portions to be the actual portion. I have an understanding that it's "restaurant week" but cammon! I work at a restaurant that has a great deal because the portions are full portions..!! I will for sure go back for the oysters..!!"

  • "Dining with the Restaurant Week menu, my wife and I found Chaz, the server, to be excellent! However; for $60 plus drinks, we were not convinced we were sampling Jax' best work. The food, appearinged as tasting-size portions (calamari and gumbo)along with or entrees (fried catfish) did not seem to be entree sized. The exception was the carrot cake which was more 'substantial' than the first two courses. Depending on the time, parking could/might/ would be problematic. Not until we noticed on the bill that there was underground parking available. Didn't notice it on the website, either. Ambiance was nice with a contolled frenetic vibe. I would hope that portion size be considered during the August timeframe."
