Honestly it seems as if everytime I go to this restaurant, it is the "best" meal I have ever had and this past weekend was no exception! Outstanding fish entrees, always paired with something special and plated beautifully. Everything from mussel appetizers to the desserts were outstanding and our waiter SAM was extraordinary! He was knowledgeable about the wine and the food and was extremely attentive! This is one of our favorite fish houses in Colorado....and we always love walking around Old Towne afterwards.

We took business associates to Jax for dinner and were very pleased with the food and service. I had scallops, and they may have been the best I ever had. Our server was excellent--kept things fun and also kept things moving, offered tastes of wine & beer to help us decide what to order, and she made all the difference in us having a great evening. We ordered tuna poke for the table, which was a highlight. The menu is relatively short but with variety and choices you don't see everywhere. The sides were interesting and the presentation was lovely. We enjoyed the Fort Collins salad that two of us split--probably would have been enough to split 3 or 4 ways. Only downside was the noise level, but staff seated us in quietest possible spot.

The food was excellent (peel n eat shrimp, oyster bar, scallops, angus burger, hazelnut torte) and the service was great. Even though it doesn't look kid friendly our 4 year old liked the crayons at the table with the paper table cover, and the fishtank. A busboy at the adjacent table even made great small talk with him and let him help set up the next table. The only reason we didn't give 5 stars is because the prices are a bit high, especially for the scallop dish (only 3 scallops on the plate for $30) but the quality and taste of the food overall was outstanding. Will definitely come again for a special occasion :)

I went here for a nice dinner with my girlfriend, and we were very happy with the overall experience. The food was delicious, the beer and wine list was good, the ambience was very nice, and the wait staff was very helpful. The only complaint I have was that the tables were cramped together: we sat at a small table in the middle of the restaurant and we were constantly being brushed up against by other patrons or members of the wait staff. In the future, I will request a booth.

Once again our visit to Jax was very good. I had the Mahi Mahi, which was a bit like a deconstructed bouillabaisse, in that a sauce was added at the table over the other ingredients. It all came together very nicely and was a great entree. My wife had the salmon which had a similarly interesting preparation. We also sampled the 4 types of available oysters, which were deliciously fresh. For desert, we shared the lime Panna cotta, which was really the only disappointment--it was fairly boring, with halt any lime flavor. While the service was appropriately attentive during the first part of the evening, it became quite slow as we finished, and we had an extreme wait for the desert and check. The restaurant was quite noisy.

I am going to use my review of their Boulder store which we dine at frequently and the same holds true for the store in LoDo, Denver, I really enjoy JAX and most of Big F's offerings: "It is what it is and that is darn good! Great happy hour and great dinners. The staff is some of the best around. We always have a good time."

Unless there are only 2 sitting face to face, the noise level makes hearing others difficult to near impossible. Erratic service persistent over 4 visits. For some food orders the level of saltiness made some food difficult to consume. Peel and eat shrimp, sautéed local veggies & chowders were wonderful.

Jax has yet to disappoint. We've had birthday dinners there, anniversary dinners, etc - the food and service are some of the best in town. The dining room is a bit too dark for my taste, though. I like to read the menu without needing the glow of a cell phone screen to see it all. Oysters are excellent, and the changing selection makes it a new adventure each time.

Wonderful selection of both east and west coast oysters. Plump, tasty and plentiful! Fish dishes were prepared to perfection. Tuna was just the way I like it! Very good and would go back. It is noisy, however, especially if seated next to the bar. Request a table away from the bar for a relaxed conversation.

Jax is one of our favorite restaurants in Fort Collins. Our most recent visit was to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Jax Fish House is a place I think of if I want to tickle my taste buds. The food quality, friendly staff and presentation are truly outstanding. However, be forewarned that such an experience can come with a fairly hefty bill at the end, especially since the portions (including the martini my wife had) are moderately sized. True, you can argue that, "you get what you pay for." However, there are other other seafood places in Fort Collins that come with friendlier prices that also serve terrific meals. It's not that Jax is off my list of "go to" places, but if the party is larger than just the two of us, I'll have to consider if the expense is warranted.

Prices high... limited menu.... tried surf and turf... beef over cooked and lobster very small in a mix of egg vegetables and spices... over cooked and not at all tasty. Tried desserts... again not much selection... cake and ice cream failed to meet test and cinnamon rolls were doughy... Certainly not a destination for desserts. Oysters were good, but again a bit pricey... Bar service good. Wait staff good, but not exceptional.

When our daughter (former chef, current foodie) heard that we were taking guests to another restaurant to satisfy their request for sea food cuisine, she decisively instructed me to make reservations at JAX instead based on her positive experiences there. After completing our dinner at JAX, our local friends and international guests (from Argentina and India) were very grateful for her good taste and recommendation. Our friend from India said that his entree was the best salmon preparation that he has ever experienced during his extensive traveling and dining throughout the United States during the last 20 years.

Fish is great, but all of the choices are pretty heavy - either fried or heavy cream. I know this has Cajun flavor profile - but all of the menu doesn't have to be heavy. I wish they'd offer some better choices.

My salmon was very well prepared with a few unique twists - crispy chickpeas for example. Greens were fresh. The real highlight was our waiter Juan. He was very attentive, without hovering. At one point he arrived at our table and replaced a drink with the correct version, we did not know it was wrong, but the new one was definitely and improvement. We arrived early, about five, and even though there were people waiting for tables when we left, we never felt any pressure to hurry. A very enjoyable experience overall. The atmosphere is very energetic with closely spaced tables.

Our waitress was very nice however, service took quite some time as far as getting our drinks and what not. It was also very expensive for the amount of food that was given. My boyfriend got a surf and turf for 32. The waitress did tell us that it wasn't traditional which was fine but when he got his plate it was only like 2oz of flank steak and pieces of lobster tAil and really the highlight of the dish was the pineapple rice. All in all it probably isn't somewhere I would go back to due to the price.

Food was excellent. Unfortunately we ordered a bottle of wine to start and it didn't come out until we finished our appetizers. I should have sent it back and just ordered a glass. The wine was a little warm for a white but certainly not undrinkable, but given that our main course came out a few minutes after opening the bottle, it seemed like we were trying to catch up on drinking it. The waiter didn't really seem to notice. We also had one of the waitresses come over to us just as we sat down to give us someone else's bill. A little strange, and after she asked me twice if I was the person on the card, a table near us finally motioned to her that they were the right party. Seems like this place could use a little more training.
