Wonderful. I was prepared to be disappointed and annoyed (disappointed because you can never trust the hype; annoyed because downtown Boulder is just annoying, loud, impossible to park, loud, ridiculously fond of itself, etc...). I was neither. Fish was fresh, perfectly cooked, and oh my gosh, a kitchen that is not afraid to deploy the salt and pepper shakers! Food was perfectly seasoned, delicious, just wonderful. Best restaurant meal I have had in Boulder area in maybe ten years. Service was good, better than average for Boulder. Noise level is awful and the tables are too close together, but the quality of the food served made those details moot. Great calamari app. I had the halibut, friends had salmon special. All were great.

I had the lamb duo and really enjoyed it. My wife had the Mahi special and wasn't all that impressed. Good but not great, dissapointing coming from a fish house. She loved her carrot soup and we both loved the banana beignets. We had expected the restaurant to be a more formal quieter place. We really did not enjoy our table as we were subjected to the conversation of the party next to us who just couldn't stop talking (it appeared to be a first date). Anyway, the way the tables were staggered just didn't appeal to us, especially when dropping $130 on dinner for 2. With a different set of expectations we may have had a better time. It was a good night, just not great.

Amazing. Energetic and attentive staff. Crowded, due to both awesome food and the fact that the head chef is Hosea Rosenberg, winner of Top Chef. He had a presence on the floor and in the kitchen, stopping to greet guests who had birthdays and to generally check in on the quality of the food. Great guy. Food was incredible - fish cooked perfectly - melted in your mouth (sablefish entree). Dessert was probably too much for me (so stuffed), but it was excellent.

We went to Jax for my wife's birthday - for the 3rd year in a row. We have never had a bad meal there. We started with the Chimi and it was very good. They mean it when they call it "ginger hellfire sauce". Believe me, I like hot stuff and I had to go sparingly. All of the food was good, but I did find the prepartion of the sablefish to be a bit on the oily side. It was still very delicious, especially with the black forbidden rice. They really do a nice job there of putting ingredients together that compliment eachother. As tasty as the food was (4 stars), I always find it overpriced and therefore only gave Jax 3 stars overall. The service was nothing special and they literally re-arranged the 4 two top tables next to us 6 different times.

My girlfriend and I are big Top Chef fans and were lucky enough to be in the Denver area recently. We had to visit. We went with my mom and sister and brother-in-law and had a great meal. The place was quite busy, especially for a Tuesday night. I'm guessing it was from the Exec Chef's recent Top Chef win, but I can see why it would be busy all the time. Because there were 5 of us we were able to sample a lot of the menu. None of us had a bad meal. Their signature drinks and libations added a great dimension to the very dynamic menu offerings. Living in California, fresh fish is easy to get. Fresh fish in land-locked Boulder was a real treat.

Jax is a lot smaller and more crowded then I expected (and we went on a Wednesday night). While waiting for our table (we did have reservations but waited 5 to 10 minutes), we were very crowded in the front, standing right next to people seated in the front, window tables. Once we got seated, we didn't see our waiter for more than 5 minutes. There was water and bread at our table. We had to ask the waiter what the specials were. After we place our order, we got our drinks right away. Our water glasses were never empty and dirty plates were picked up quickly. Things move fast and service was great after we ordered. We were offered extra bread to go with our mussels sauce. The food came fast and was excellent. Leftovers for next day!

JAX Happy Hour is not to be beat. Though we did not sample from the dinner menu, some Happy Hour specials and apps were plenty, the food at other tables looked delicious. It is on the pricey side but fresh seafood in a landlocked state should be. My only complaint was the size of the dining area. We were a table of three tucked into a small corner booth. Any time one of use wanted to get up from the table either our table or diners at other tables had to shuffle around. Overall it was a great experience with a lively atmosphere and superb food.

Oh My Gosh! The food was incredible and we tried 3 appetizers and 3 main dishes...then 2 desserts. Chef Hosea was gracious enough to have pictures taken with us. I had the CO bass and that dish was out of this world.. The sauce was to die for and it was just a perfect blend with the brussel sprouts and potatoes. But what would you expect from a Top Chef!

The service was wonderful, from the hostess to the server to the bussers. We appreciated the chef coming by as well, it was a great experience to meet him personally. For a seafood restaurant that is located about as far away from a coast as possible, I thoroughly enjoyed the food. But because of the physical location I think there is a lot of room for improvement.

It was a very busy place that Friday night and still the service was Excellent. Though my wife and I enjoy a quiet, romantic dinner, this place was not quiet by any means. But that was good. While there I felt energetic, avery upbeat. Everyone was friendly and courteous. For the Appetizer, we had the Fried Calamari (one of the few places I have found that serves not only the rings but the sliced steak of the squid as well) followed by the Special Corvina and Seared sea scallops for my wife. We had the Crème Brulee Trio for desert. The food was excellent, well worth the trip. We left there wanting to go back, feeling cunfortably full and very happy. I would recommend Jax Fish House – Boulder to anyone that enjoys a good fish dinner.

After Hosea (Jax's executive chef) won Top Chef, we just had to go to try it out. Reservations were a bit hard to come by - only accept them from 4-6 PM, then its first come, first serve after 6 PM. Two people at the table had the fried catfish, on a bed of jumbalaya, rice and corn bread. It was VERY good - but quite dry given all the bread. Definitely ask for a side of tartar sauce. This was also one of the most budget-friendly, and largest dishes. The bass was swapped out with Mahi Mahi, which was very good - same with the tuna. The restaurant was quite vibrant, and there were a lot of people there for a Sunday night. The tables are not right up against each other, which I appreciated. Definitely recommend it for Boulder area din
