Diner Reviews
  • "Heard about Jasper's on the SHN site when we were going to a show at the Curran Theatre. What a fin! Great service and recommendations from our server Jason. Great atmosphere...great vibe. Had the Deviled Egg Trio for appetizer, main courses of the shorts ribs, piggy fingers and Brussels sprout... All were amazing. Jasper's has a high end bar and cocktail menu also. We give Jasper's a 10 out of 10 and will definitely be back."

  • "I've been here twice now prior to seeing a show at the Curran. Its really close. Friendly staff, good food, great drinks. They've always have been able to get out order in a timely manner to give us plenty of time to make it to our show."

  • "The food was terrific a lot of Gluten Free options. The vibe in the rest. is very modern. Nice bar in the front with lots of seating for large groups."

  • "Despite having a reservation, my husband and I had to wait 15 minutes before being seated. There were many empty tables so I am not sure of the reason for the delay. We ordered warm olives as an appetizer with our martinis but they arrived with the rest of the meal! We immediately asked them to be packaged to go. We were seated next to a long hallway which evidently led to the kitchen, as all of the food was served from this area. It was drafty; a curtain across the entrance to the dining room would help. Food was only ok; steak frite was served poutine style in a VERY sweet reduction making the frite soggy and not appetizing. My husband seemed to enjoy his meal (but I can't remember what he ordered). Needs some polish!"

  • "We had a good time at this place. Our food was good. The spicy chickpeas are great with the IPA. I had the braised short rib and my friend had a the j-burger. I would order the short rib menu item again. The only issue that needs improving is our waitress was pretty much missing the entire meal. We waited about 10 minutes before she came for a drink order. Then another 20 for our food order. The spicy chickpeas definitely called for another round of drinks...that I had to walk to the bar to order. I would visit again, even though the service was pretty slow."

  • "We're from out of town so we made a reservation as a precaution. Didn't need it because the place was only half full. We were still seated at a lousy table between a pole and another couple. Our waiter was hopelessly inattentive and the food, while fine, was nothing remarkable. even if I lived here, I wouldn't go back."

  • "Very interesting menu and great food. Only negative was that no one greets you at the door for lunch and let's you know there is a dining room in addition to the bar which is where you enter. We sat ourselves in the bar until we happened on the back room which was actually the restaurant!"

  • "Nice place to go before seeing a play at the Curran, ACT, or Golden Gate Theaters. Simple food that is prepared well. It's appreciated they have smaller portions for many entres"

  • "Went for pre-theatre dinner. Food was acceptable and reasonably priced. Service was not particularly knowledgeable and very haphazard. Beware of the four hours of free parking offer. Dinner and the show take 5 hours and the garage basically charges you the $12-$15 dollar special event rate for the one extra hour. The poor kids running the garage haven't a clue how the comuterized system works and everbody just gives up on the various rationales offered and pays the money."

  • "We shared a bunch of small plates. Though I wasn't impressed with the poutine, which was just large, soft French fries, I LOVED the braised short ribs. They were so tender and flavorful. The 5 spice crunchy piggy was okay and I probably wouldn't get it again. The brussel sprouts were tasty and the bone marrow delicious."

  • "We were 5 diners who wanted to TALK during our pre-theater dinner. I had asked for a quiet table, and we were put in the back of the restaurant, but as more people arrived the noise level increased progressively. A couple at a small table might have a chance to talk but no larger a group than that. Despite the good food, excellent cocktails, and friendly service, it's not a pleasant experience at that noise level. What a shame."

  • "We found this restaurant when on a weekend stay in San Fran. Dinner was excellent, so we tried breakfast the next day as well and were not disappointed. Great selection and the food was excellent. Definitely try the stuffed French toast for breakfast - it was amazing! Good for large parties as well. Only downside was that it was a bit noisy for dinner, but otherwise it was quite a find. Very convenient if you're staying at the Hilton in Union Square since it's right across the street. Highly recommended!"

  • "Service was disinterested and very slow. Food was ok, not great. Drinks were not very good. This place could use a little bit of polish if it cared about reputation, but I doubt that it needs to."

  • "Food was only mediocre, and the service was very disappointing. Staff seemed to be uninterested regardless if you were there or not."

  • "Had the homemade bucatelli pasta and it was outstanding (with wild mushrooms). We also had the "Crispy Piggy" as an appetizer -- don't pass this up. Just delicious!!!"

  • "We found Jasper's at the last minute based on online reviews. We were very pleased. The cucumber-watermelon salad was a delight, the burger had a lot of flavors built in and the brussel sprouts in bacon and hazelnuts was creative and tasty (I would have roasted the brussel sprouts a few more minutes - I think the best flavor emerges when they are just slightly burned). The beer selection was good. The service was great until a large party moved into our section and no one brought us our bill .... finally caught our waiter and asked for it and then it came promptly."

  • "I found the place to be a bit pricey for what you get. I've had better food at a diner. It was so loud that carrying a conversation was nearly impossible without shouting, not an ideal dining experience. "

  • "Overall the experience was not that bad. I am hoping that we got the one bad apple in the group so to speak so I want to try and be a little optimistic. Basically we had reservations but when I showed up a few mins early they were not ready for us. We ended up seating about 10 mins late which usually is not a big deal but we had another engagement later so we were under a time crunch. To make matters worse, after seating for about 15 mins, the waiter still had not come by to get our drink order. After I approached the front desk about it, they did correct the issue and even offered a 10% discount for the trouble. Overall, everybody really enjoyed the food and things did pick up after that but I cannot give them a full 5 stars..."

  • "Wife and I just stopped by for a beer and light apps. Our server Tee was super kind and generous. We were a little picky and made him run about but he was soo flexible and he made us incredibly comfortable. Cannot wait to return! Also, great beer range."

  • "Everyone at Jasper's was friendly and attentive, beginning with the hostess who wanted to be sure our table was "just perfect" and ending with the servers who brought food and drinks. We had a large group, but everyone got exactly what they ordered, as they ordered it, and were satisfied with the meal."

  • "We had a group of 10 for brunch and had the best setup we could have asked for. Our server, Jon, was excellent - really attentive, knew what he was doing, kept up with us but never intrusive, and a really nice guy too! He gets the most kudos on this review since he did make the time we had as a group very nice. Don't get me wrong, the food was good and the price is right, so there is nothing I can say about this experience but good things. What a great place that I found years ago at the SF Chefs event and have liked every time I've been there since. Go have some good food with a nice staff and be happy you did! "

  • "We ate at this restaurant because of its location to the hotel we were staying at. Although the bar was pretty empty, the wait staff wasn't very attentive and once we ordered the service was slow. The appetizers we ordered were good however when we went back for brunch the next morning I was disappointed. My meal came out at least 5 minutes before the rest of my party and some of their meals were cold when it was served. Overall it wasn't a very good experience or value for the cost."

  • "We stayed at Hotel Adagio and walked down the hill to eat dinner. Average beer list - could do with a few more options....pretzel was okay, cheese with pretzel was yum. Grilled cheese with pork belly and a side of tomato bisque was great. Friendly, fast service!"

  • "This was a great/quick find for a last minute get together!"

  • "My main reason for going here is that they have a great beer list, good cocktails, and they're one of the only good spots right near Union Square. Food was just ok this visit, and it seems like there were fewer menu options than the other times I visited. It was busy, so service was on the ok-side of good, but friendly. It would be nice to see a menu refresh soon, with more smaller plates options."
    Dined on 5/2/2014
  • "We stopped by here (second time) before the theater on a Saturday night at 6pm. It wasn't busy yet and we had a nice relaxing meal of Truffle Fries, Riblettes, Pretzel, and two Cheeseburgers with side salad. The beer list was quite nice for us beer geeks with some from all over. I think the bottle list had better beers than the taps (no stouts on tap at all). The food was excellent and we enjoyed everything. We were given two menus with different prices and the server was also confused about that and didn't know which one was right. We'll be back when we want to have a fun dinner downtown before a show - and use Restaurant.com for a great deal!!"

  • "We went to Jasper's for the famous deviled eggs - which are not available on the brunch menu. Next we ordered a round of endless mimosa's only to be told they were out of champagne. Finally, the price point was high for a mediocre restaurant - $10 for a bloody Mary and $14 for an omelet. Overall I say this was just okay."

  • "My wife and I wondered if the place was under new management. No more mocktails. The peanut butter pie was off the dessert menu. Things seemed a bit off. I got home and looked it up and sure enough the place has new management. Too bad - we liked this place but the transition seems to not have gone so smooth."

  • "A very nice restaurant with menu that includes nice variety for all tastes. My wife and 14yr old son were traveling, and didn't want the hassle of finding a new restaurant in a strange city. This fit the bill. "

  • "Wow, has this place gone down hill. Had a 7:45 reservation. Was seated at 8:05 because they were "busy" , we sat down, ordered right away, appetizer came just fine but no drinks. Meal came out, still no drinks. My meal, I clearly said no meat on a grilled cheese sandwich and meat was on the sandwich. Drinks finally came and I waited even longer for the new sandwich. Bill came after meal but instead of some discount for the sandwich mess and the late delivery of drinks, I was double charged for my meal. Bill came back fixed 10 mins later but still no discount. Even so, Waitress didn't offer to sub avocado for meat - so I paid for both. "

  • "The food is pretty good with an interesting menu. The service was friendly, but very, very slow and inattentive. The bar looked fun, and is probably your best best. I would go back here if I was in the neighborhood, but would not make a special trip. "

  • "If my San Francisco geography is right, this place is just into the Tenderloin in an upscale hotel. It wasn't crowded on Easter Sunday at 11 am so I gave up my table and sat at the bar. It had a sports bar feel without all the TV's (there were 2 TV's but they were not intrusive - thank you). There appeared to be a more formal sit-down dining area in the back. The bartender (Carlos) was a genial chap. I had the roasted chicken breast entree (seems a bit "dinnery" for brunch - other selections were more typical "brunchy") and 2 Bloody Mary's. Carlos even said that no one had ever ordered the chicken from him. Not WOW but solid and competent. Not cheap. If you prefer cheap, try Sear's or Lefty's. I'd go back."

  • "The service was awesome, the food was very good as well. The website is a little misleading, when they say we could have wine flights, and then they did not offer them at the actual restaurant. That is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. "

  • "made a reservation for a table of 11 for brunch at 11:15 on a sunday morning...place was basically empty but it took them a half hour to get a table ready, despite the reservation...never gave us menus...I never do reviews, but the service here was so bad, I cannot believe this was the Serrano hotels' restaurant. Asked for the wine list to get champagne, and all they had none of the 4 champagne's listed, just the bad house champagne they use for their bottomless mimosa's (which were a joke, since we could never get them to bring a second one after it took over a half hour to get the first one. Seemed to have no manager on duty, all the staff seemed to have no experience ever working in a restaurant before."

  • "Jasper's is in a great spot for pre-theater or after work or after convention activities. The atmosphere looks like a good after-work bar, which it is. There is a lively bar for mixing and flirting. But the food in the restaurant portion is all a cut above what one might expect. We had fine riblets and deviled eggs as appetizers and excellent rib eye, flank steak, fish and chips. All were well executed. So, go to Jasper's, have a mixed drink, a good glass of wine or a tasty beer and stay for the food."
