This was our first disappointing experience of the many times we have dined on the Las Vegas strip. The friendliness of our primary server did not make up for neglect and long waits for service, wine and food. We were told all tables arrived at once, yet there were only a handful of occupied tables on Thursday night at 5:30 in a large room of mostly empty tables. We will not return.

I love Japanais in Chicago but they removed the rock app from the menu when chef marimoto took over. when i saw it on menu board at the mirage I just had to eat there. My husband wasn't to keen on it but I have been talking about this app for at least a year so he went. now he is hooked!!!! I did miss the tuna tuna salmon and special zuki which were not on the menu. overall dinner was awesome and i really enjoyed our server she was very attentive and happy. i believe her name was colleen.

Thought this would be just another snooty place but IT WASNT. It was quiet and the service was outstanding. Our server Po was perfect. She asked us if we were going to a show in order to make sure our dinner was timed perfectly. She could tell when we didn't understand he menu and she offered help. She was friendly and didn't hover over us. Best service expirience we have had in a while. She anticipated our needs and wants perfectly.

Our server was outstanding (friendly, considerate, and professional), and she made our dining experience pleasant and memorable. It was my daughter's birthday, and our server contributed to the celebration with a lovely little dessert - such a nice gesture! This was our first dining experience at Japonais and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and family. Thank you!

  • Didn't live up up to expectations

As a frequent traveler (and to Asia as well) I was expecting a bit more. The food was the typical Americanized Sushi that one can get anywhere from Vegas to Omaha. While not completely exorbitant, with the prices here one would expect to feel as if you were sitting down in Ginza or at any one of the many izakayas in Japan. Instead it had much more of an assembly line feeling, with bored looking itamae completely avoiding eye contact with people at the sushi bar, tossing mediocre dishes out with the care of someone waiting for their shift to end. Everything that we had simply lacked that extra freshness and "something" that one would expect at a place being promoted as a world-class Japanese restaurant.

We dined early due to our 7pm LOVE tickets - perfect before-theatre dining. My husband had a sashimi plate and I had miso soup, 3 kinds of sushi and a robata skewer. All were excellent, the fish fresh and firm and beautifully cut. Our server was cognizant of our timing so we could relax and trust we'd be on our way on time.

We were here on a Friday night and there were many tables available. I totally understand why. The prices are way too high for sushi. We frequent the most expensive sushi restaurant in Scottsdale, AZ and it doesn't come close to the prices here and the food is much better. They do provide excellent and attentive service as a positive. Skip desert as the pictures do not represent what you actually receive!

When you first walk-in you are greeted by a very pleasant and welcoming hostess. We arrived earlier than our original reservation but they sat us immediately. The waitress was helpful and attentive. The menu was diverse but not extensive in terms of the types of sushi and sashimi available. My wife loves salmon skin rolls but it wasn't listed on the menu and the sushi chefs were unwilling to make one by request. We ordered hamachi, otoro, and unagi roll. Sashimi was fresh but otoro had too much tsugi. Roll was good but nothing special. Ordered short ribs which were tender but dry. Beer choices from Japan was impressive. A little pricey but service, atmosphere, and overall quality of food was good. We would go back.

We ordered Spicy Tuna roll, Spicy Salmon roll, Tuna Sashimi, Salmon Sashimi, Sweet Shrimp and EAL. Tuna and Salmon Rolls were not edible. Rice was soggy and not well cooked at all. Chef admitted to rice being very poor equality and cooked right. The fish used in Sashimi was very poor quality. Texture and taste felt like they buy very low quality fish. We felt one can get better quality sushi and sashimi in a local grocery market than at this restaurant. We also ordered The Rock and it was good. This is the only fish we would recommend here. To show how bad the manager is and how little they care about their service, they charged us for the Sushi that we returned. We are shocked at how poor the quality fallen. Stay away

we went there because we were told about the Wagu hot rock, when we go there it was on the menu but they were out of hot rocks. Very disappointed to find this. Service was good until the end of the meal our waiter disappeared and no other server could help us, we were stuck in the restaurant for an additional 20 minutes waiting for our waiter to reappear.

We returned for dinner here after a fantastic experience for our anniversary last year. Our food was an elegant and utter delight. "The Rock" appetizer was the best starter imaginable and our sushi, steak and duck were out of this world. It was again amazing and hands down one of the best meals we have EVER eaten. Our waitress was attentive, kind, entertaining and personable! We'll request her upon our return- and we will be coming back! Our server was wonderful, we didn't need to ask for a thing, he was right there! Of all the places to eat in Vegas, Japonais will be our 'go to' recommendation...it's not to be missed!

We went to Japonais before a show, and were surprised it was as good as it was - we had a selection from each of the kitchen areas (sushi and robata), which were delicious, and then the "Le Quack" to top it off. Wow, what a dish! A generous half smoked duck breast served moo shu style. Awesome meal and a great start to a fun evening.

Our dinner for 4 was greatly enhanced by our attentive and professional server Po. She was gracious, knowledgeable and accommodating, even making a special request of the chef for a lactose-intolerant diner. This special need is noted in my Open Table profile, but the information is rarely passed on to the service staff, as was done at Japonais. A lovely venue, and a great meal!

The only complaint was that we were offered bottled water which turend out to be $12 lol. It was that it cost $12 but they should've mentioned it is all. Still a great place to dine.

I ate here 6 years ago and really enjoyed everything so I decided to bring my husband along this time. I promised him that he would love it and he was a bit skeptical because it does offer quite a lot of Japanese food. We both had the filet mignon and it was superb. It just melted in our mouths. The portion size was perfect and we didn't leave feeling stuffed, just the right amount of full. The staff was very pleasant and attentive. I would highly recommend japonais to anyone.

The food was mediocre and the drinks were stiff. I ordered the rye and ginger beer specialty cocktail and it was...intense. The sushi rolls are a lot of rice and a mere morsel of fish. The ahi ceviche was nice. The atmosphere is quiet (we were there around 6) and sexy with water features and dim, red light fixtures. I recommend if you're going to a show, but not for a special trip.
