  • "Honored reservation almost to the minute! Good Food, good local atmosphere with IU memorabilia hung throughout the restaurant! Friendly and helpful staff...but a little pricey!"

  • "Decided to celebrate a birthday at Zagrebs. When my wife & I recently moved to Bloomington, this was the first restaurant recommended to us. Despite having reservations and arriving on time, we were made to wait almost 25 minutes for our table. This wouldn't have been so bad except there is no lounge or waiting area of any size. The ambience is college burger bar casual; interesting for a meal that can easily top $100 for 2. Zagrebs was very loud the Saturday night we were there. Service was good, considering the place was packed. Salad and potato were fine. Steaks were top drawer. Nice selection of wine. Very good beef, very large steaks grilled to perfection. Be prepared to pay ~$35 for your steak. When nothing but a steak will do..."

  • "An institution. Steaks are fabulous. Good vibe. Portions are very generous and easy to share. My first time there, but will definitely go back."

  • "The steak was great as expected! But getting parked next to the kitchen was not what I had hoped for perhaps bad timing and a sound barrier to the clanking of dishes would have helped. The bread/grilled sesame hamburger buns.... really, I guess it is them telling you not to eat them. The poor salad and copious dressing was a disappointment. I appreciate the novelty of the place but they should excel in these areas. I am sure I will go back again, but it may take a longer stretch of time. Ruth's Chris is just an hour away and they serve a Martini!"

  • "Huge steaks, plenty of hot garlic rolls, wine, beer, salad, appetizers.... And cheese cake with a candle. Great fun and FULL tummies."

  • "Janko's is the most unappreciated steakhouse in Indiana. The food is great and the service is on point. The atmosphere is pleasant and not pretentious. It had been too long since I ate at Janko's and made a note to myself not to make that mistake in the future."

  • "We have been going to Janko's for many years. I do not remember any visit that was sub-standard. Over the years they have added a variety of choices, but anyone who goes there for anything other than the meatballs and beef is really missing out. Just outstanding food and always terrific service. We are already looking forward to the next visit."

  • "I have eaten at Janko's before and I came back for the same great experience and got it. Great steaks and great service in a casual atmosphere. My family members request Janko's for our special occasions."

  • "I had the hand cut 11oz filet, which was excellent, cooked exactly as ordered, very tasty & tender. I did detect a slight burnt taste (not charred) to the outside & to the buns as well. I also had the jumbo shrimp which was excellent and a great bottle of Cabernet. A great place for steaks however, you will pay the price. I had to wait close to 30 minutes after my designated time to be seated (a very popular place on the weekend)! My biggest complaint is their lack of a waiting area or ability to wait outside. I waited inside, as out of the way as possible, but was constantly shuffling to allow the waitresses to pass. My waitress was excellent & the timing of the meal was perfect."

  • "Overall was ok. They were running a groupon. We had reservations, still took 45 minutes past our reservation time to seat our party of 4. Our server was prompt in taking our order. The server brought our steaks and burgers out and we stated we did not get our salads. She said she would go get them. Then came back and took our entrees away and gave us salads. Then came back again and said cook did not want to keep our entrees on the grill as they would dry out and he would not make new ones. So, we just had to deal with it. Then before we could finish our food, someone came around and was trying to take our plates away. Felt like they just wanted to turn tables. Probably won't be back lots of other places to eat at in Bloomington."

  • "Food is quite good; but, for the price I would expect outstanding. It wasn't quite there. Service was great. Seating was a bit cramped. It felt like you were right on top of the tables next to you. Definitely not a place for a private conversation."

  • "We go to janko's for one reason- great steaks! Be sure to make a reservation. There is always a line of hungry customers waiting for the next available table. You know you will get great food and service."

  • "Came to Bloomington to check out I.U. With my son. This place was recommended by an IU alumnus. Pretty hefty price tag for the shabby place that it is. Rolls were barely warm and salad was extremely average. My steak was very good. My son had the ribs and found the sauce a little too spicy. The meal was fine but nothing to write home about and certainly not worth $80 in Bloomington - or anywhere."

  • "Outstanding steaks, very ordinary otherwise, no options on sides, no up-grade on salad. Huge steaks, bigger than necessary, are very good but not enough to justify prices."

  • "Our party of four - my husband and I and our twenty-something daughter and her boyfriend - enjoyed a wonderful dinner with good wine and a dose of typical Zagreb's atmosphere. The Hungarian meatballs were spicy but so good and everyone's steaks were grilled to perfection."

  • "Food is great! Love the full rack of rib app with the rolls. Had the porterhouse and could not finish half of it. Portions of meat are huggggeee! Place was exactly the same from when I used to take my IU football Tackle brother and his TE roommate their for dinner back in the early 1990's. I mean nothing has changed right down to the "welcome IU Football Recruits" sign on the wall. Really one of the best steaks in the Midwest. It isn't cheap, but worth it if you get near Bloomington,IN. Right down the street from the Hilton Garden Inn."

  • "I't all about the steak !!!! I got the Porterhouse this time, and it was so large my daughter and I split it. Salad & potato are very generic."

  • "I can almost always find something to criticize...Not here, though. Everything was great. Best filet I've had in decades . Lobster was excellent. Baked potato, perfect. I even ate the salad ( it was THAT good ). It was well worth the drive from Noblesville to Bloomington for this meal...Yes, it was THAT good !"

  • "The steak here is awesome, so don't interpret the 3 stars as "I wont get a great meal", but the ambiance simply does not match the price tag. We ate at glorified picnic tables (complete with red and white checkered table cloths) but ended up with a $50 meal from 2 entrees alone. It was a great night with friends, but the experience just seemed a little miss matched."

  • "We enjoy their steaks and lamb chops! We also added a lobster tail to our dinner and it was exceptional. The food is the best ! The steaks come exactly as you order them with the rub and juiciness perfect needing no steak sauce."

  • "We had a reservation over a week in advance of dining here. When we arrived, the host said it would be "just a few minutes." 30 minutes later we still had not been seated. The table was not ready until 45 minutes after our reservation time. Meanwhile, they were constantly sitting walk-ins in front of us instead of combining two tables to sit our group of 8. The host did absolutely nothing to try to rectify the situation, and did not even apologize for making us wait so long. I am not sure that they understand the concept of a reservation. They also were somehow out of porterhouses. I don't see how a steakhouse can run out of a steak. Overall, a very poor experience."

  • "This is definitely a place that is for special occasions. The prices are a little too steep for just a random night out. I would recommend couples to try it at least once. The ribeye was on my top 3 list. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. Our service was great! "

  • "If you are a steak and meat lover, this is the place to be. The portions are huge, and very tasty. The only downfall would be that they do not offer a good selection for those who like to have heavy salad/vegetable meals with small portions of meat. But this is a hometown favorite and very well known restaurant for those who come to Bloomington. … it is legendary."

  • "My parents brought me here for the first time when I was in school at IU over 20 years ago. We made a point to go to Little Zagreb every time they visited and I continue to bring a group of friends every Memorial weekend. Everyone I have brought here has been impressed. All steaks are cooked to perfection."

  • "They make a big deal about grilling their rolls. Except what you get is a stale supermarket roll with grill marks. Their salads are anemic and perfunctory. The service is fine, but primarily eye candy (apparently Janko has a thing for very slim 20 year olds with smallish chests). The reason you go to Janko's is the meat... the steaks, chicken and seafood is very good. Oozing flavor and moist, there is a reason the place has been around forever. The price tag for their steaks is steep, but no where near as bad as some of the high end steak places in Indy (30% less than Morton's or St. Elmo's). Bloomington is a town of good places to eat, but Janko's is the one upscale steak in town."
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "Not your typical high end steakhouse. It's down home friendly, excellent appetizers, best steaks we have ever had, and wonderful dessert! The wait staff are very friendly! Nothing fancy about the place, tables & chairs & booths, IU memorabilia all over and a bit loud! However, best steaks ever!"

  • "We have lived in the Bloomington area for over 15 years and have heard nothing but good things about Little Zagrebs. We finally had a chance to try it and we were really excited. While the venue was great, the service left something to be desired. The staff was mostly concerned with the sports that were on television. As for the food, I love supporting local restaurants, but the price of the steak was way too high for the quality. I can go to a chain and get a steak that is seasoned better and cost less. This makes me really sad. "

  • "The steaks here are THE BEST! Seriously, they are the best. I've eaten a lot of steaks, lots of price ranges, and this is the absolute best. We also love the staff. All the staff is committed to great, attentive service. The salad, potato, and rolls are good but nothing special...but you shouldn't be coming for the salad or potato...the steak is so awesome that I'd be coming here if you didn't get any sides. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra $1 for the blue cheese salad dressing, you won't regret it. But now for the steak...it is so juicy, so flavorful, and always cooked perfectly. These guys are the steak experts. Even if you want it well or medium well, it's still juicy, but I don't know why you wouldn't want it med-rare! Love it!!! "

  • "If you visit Bloomington you have not really experienced everything if you do not make a stop a Janko's. A fine dining steak house nestled into a cool city block of Bloomington Indiana. No pretense, now suit and tie needed! Simple red and white checked tablecloths and IU memorabilia covering the walls. The menu is simple and the food is on point. Start with some meatballs and try the NY Strip it will NEVER disappoint. Janko's is were I took my wife on our first date over 24 years ago and we still are regular diners there to this day. Do yourself a favor, stop and experience the great wait staff and wonderful food to be had at Janko's when your in town "

  • "I made a reservation on March 31 for May 10, which is IU graduation day. The restaurant requires a $25 credit card deposit just to make the reservation. We got there a half hour early for a 7:30 reservation, but weren't seated until 8:15. It was literally a mob scene. While you have to remain at the entrance to wait for your party to be called, there is absolutely no place to sit and no room to stand. It was chaotic and uncomfortable with others in my party relegated to standing on the street. The restaurant obviously overbooked in spite of insisting on credit card information just to make the reservation. When we finally got served, the waitress got all 3 orders totally wrong. In the end two of us ate steaks we never ordered. "
