Diner Reviews
  • "Part of the my steak was blue. It was very unappetizing. The waitress told me it was where the meat was stamped and informed me it was soy based ink, so it was safe to eat. That didn't really bring my appetite back. Our reservation was at 7:30 and we finally got a table at 8:15. Overall a pretty bad experience."

  • "We made a reservation using Open Table which the restaurant acknowledged they received. We still had to weight 45 minutes to be seated along with all the other guests who had made reservations. They need to offer fewer reservation spots if they want to honor them."

  • "The BEST ribeye I've ever had. And grilled rolls were incredible"

  • "I had the porterhouse steak and it was truly out of this world, I plan on many more trips back, if your in Bloomington, you must try it at least once! Be sure to make a reservation, most nights they are booked up."

  • "I ordered the filet and mine was good. My husband had the ribeye and his wasn't the best."

  • "My New York Strip was one of the best pieces of beef I've ever tasted. Tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The accompaniments--salad, baked potato, and rolls, with no options--are acceptable, but nothing special. My party of 4 had reservations for 7 p.m. on a Saturday night. We arrived on time, but didn't get seated until about 7:25 p.m. I understand that this is not entirely in the restaurant's control. I will certainly go back when I have a craving for an excellent steak."

  • "Having gone to school in Bloomington, I always enjoy going to Janko's. The decor hasn't changed in 30 years by much, but the food was excellent as always. Had the sirloin for one and could only eat half of it. Cudos to Janko's for being a long time Bloomington tradition."

  • "It's been a few years since visiting Yankos. Food and service was still excellent. The only thing I would change is how loud it was. We had four people in our group and our table was very large. We couldn't carry on a conversation with the people on the other side of the table. We were in the back room with several large groups and it was very loud. If the table would've been smaller and we didnt feel like we were so far away from each other that might have helped too."

  • "The petite filet had an outstanding flavor and was cooked to perfection! The mushroom soup was delicious as well! We will dine here again"

  • "Definitely the place for a steak lover.Steaks are excellent. Most can be shared with an extra plate charge. Spicy Meatballs are an excellent appetizer . Nothing fancy about this restaurant , just a great place for the steak of your choice, baked potatoe and salad."

  • "Whenever we come to IU for a visit with our College son , we know he is need for a good dinner especially when MOM & Dad are paying for a great dinner. Awesome steaks and he loves the meatballs and takes home a extra order to heat up the next day.. What a gem and worth the price... See you next time..."

  • "I have heard of Little Zagreb's for years, but had never been. Glad I checked this one off the list! The food was pretty much exactly as others had described it. Everything else is secondary to the steak. The salad is pretty uninspiring, but the zesty meatballs were awesome and the New York strip was very, very good. Kid's menu was great too. Not the uptight atmosphere of most high end steakhouses, Zagreb's was high quality food with an appropriate small town atmosphere. Get a reservation before you go! Will definitely go back to Little Zagrebs next time I'm in Bloomington!"

  • "Me & my daughter & grandchildren (8 & 6) went for a 5pm dinner on Tuesday, March 18. My only complaint is when ordering a huge steak to be split by two that the price for an extra salad & potato was too high. My daughter and I split a Tamahawk Ribeye $45.00, (which after dinner I still brought home half of the steak). The extra side of $7.00 for adult & my grandchildren had potatoes $3.50 each (and Mr. Pip, $2.50 each). A second plate side of a small salad should be provided free. It might seem petty but nickel and dining with a $44.00 Steak purchase should include small salads. A child's plate & drink for $4.00 each is plenty for kids food & beverage. I also purchased a bottle of wine, $30.00. The bill was $11.00 too high in my eyes."

  • "Per usual the steaks were fantastic ! Seating was a little crowded but I understand, small place with lots of patrons. Tried the meatballs for the first time - spicy but great.. Menu front was a little odd, been there a few times but just now noticed the guy on the front looks like Ron Jeremy ! Great times with even better food. Thanks a ton, Karl"

  • "Don't let the sports bar decor fool you, Janko's is a great steak restaurant. The food is cooked well, the staff is great and their wine list is impressive. They only serve beer and wine so don't expect cocktails before dinner. We had a great 50th Birthday celebration there and will be back."

  • "I thought this would be just another steakhouse but was surprised by it. I ordered tuna and it was amazing. The vibe it so casual but prices are high."

  • "I wouldn't normally go to Janko's for a burger, but I wasn't in the mood for a $45 steak and the burger was only $16. I know what you are thinking, but I swear they took the steak that I didn't order and put it through the grinder and put it on the grill. It was ground steak. They serve it with a bun, period. That is all. And it was still the best burger I have ever eaten. If you consider yourself a burger lover, you have to try it."

  • "Perfect place for the person looking for a quality meat provider. You cannot find a better steak in the state, cooked to your perfection, and each dish represents the care in its preperation."

  • "There are certain things in life that you HAVE to do. If you are in Arizona for example you must go to the Grand Canyon. When in Dallas you must go to Dealy Plaza. When you are in Pisa you have to visit the Leaning Tower. And when you are on Planet Earth you HAVE to go to Zagrebs. Unless you don't want the best steak you will ever have. In that case, there are several McDonalds in the immediate area."

  • "Great steaks, friendly and great service, never changes, you know what you are going to get every time, steaks better than most of the top name brand steak houses"

  • "Whatever the negatives might be at this restaurant, they do serve the best steaks cooked absolutely to perfection. Spot-on temperatures on every steak. It's clear that the focus is on the steak and everything else is very basic - sides, service, atmosphere. Best quality steaks in town and the best cooked as well. I've had the sirloin, the ribeye, and the filet here - all taste very different as they should and all have been cooked exactly to the requested doneness. Good wine list too. The only negative was waiting to be seated even though we had a reservation."

  • "As far as we are concern, if we want a steak, we come to Janko's. The 20 oz. ribeye is great"

  • "We had read the great reviews and upon entering Janko's we were suspect. This is not a typical steak house. Plastic tablecloths, rustic, diner style ambience. Once you taste the food you get it. The best steak I have ever had. And I have had them all."
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "I ordered medium well. They butterflied it and it was dry and well done. Some parts black. I've always had a perfect steak in the past."

  • "Food and service was fantastic as ususal. The only disappointment was waiting so long for a table despite having reservations. This wouldn't be so bad if there was a bar or larger area for crowds but that might change the ambience of this place too much. Enthusiastically recommend this place to anyone."

  • "Janko's was recommended for their great steak and they delivered. The steak was amazing and the casual atmosphere was nice."

  • "Janko's has always been an IU tradition, We have been there dozen's of times over the past 25 years, though the last three or four times we dined there we left leaving disappointed. The noise level is often too loud to hear each other talk and the quality of the meat has definitely decreased (my medium rare sirloin had more grizzle than meat) as prices have increased. The tables are practically on top of each other. The poor bus waiter was dropping things and bumping into people on every trip back to the kitchen. (Perhaps the space is too tight to give her a tray or bin for dirty dishes?)"

  • "We did have to wait 35 minutes from our reservation time of 7:30pm. They did give us a free appetizer and dessert but it was just frustrating to have made reservations then they continued to say we would be the next table. I finally had to ask for a manager."

  • "Love this place. It's always good and I always leave full and satisfied. It's loud and rustic but the atmosphere may not be appealing to everyone. I highly recommend to all steak lovers, vegetarians should stay at home"

  • "We made a reservation for 8:00 on a Saturday night. We arrived & checked in at 7:45. At 8:40, we were seated. During those 55 minutes, we were crammed in a tiny vestibule with at least 50 other patrons waiting to hear our name yelled to be seated. The service was very pleasant & fast. They brought us rolls to the table. They were burnt on the bottoms, but almost frozen in the centers. The replacement rolls were the same. We had the sirloin for two. I found it was tougher than I expected, but was seasoned well. We brought at least half of it home. Though we didn't drink, their wine list is extensive. The tables are very, very close together & it's very loud. Also, it's best to skip the restroom there. Yuck."

  • "We like going to Janko's Little Zagreb when we visit our son at IU because the food is always consistent and the steaks are great. If you are looking for atmosphere there's plenty of it, but not what you would expect. Come dressed in jeans, it's not a fancy restaurant."
