A word from Jane
Jane is a casual American bistro located between Greenwich Village and Soho. Since April 2001, neighborhood regulars and destination diners alike flock to Jane for its value-priced brunch, lunch and dinner menus. Jane also serves as an ideal location for private events, from business dinners to baby showers.

At Jane, the menu showcases an affinity for local ingredients with what New York magazine calls “cleverly tweaked but unpretentious American cuisine.” To complement the food, Jane offers a hand-selected, extensive wine list and seasonally driven cocktails.

Jane is the sister restaurant to The Smith East Village, The Smith Lincoln Center and The Smith Midtown.

Jane is our go to place for consistently good high quality food with a diverse enough selection to apeal to most. The space is large enough space that you can talk without feeling on top on your neighbor and it can accommodate larger groups.

I'm a fan of Jane, and so, despite uncharacteristically bad service on this last visit, I'll go again. The menu is interesting and the good is tasty. Also, the cocktails were delicious (and strong).

  • Don't Go Sunday Before Noon

My husband and I visited Jane from out of town because we read their brunch was amazing. Though the prices were a little higher than what we were looking for they advertised that a cocktail was included with every meal. Well, that made the entree prices very appealing. However, due to NY law, they couldn't sell alcohol before noon on Sunday (we had 10:30 reservations). They offered complementary juice... but not coffee. Which baffled me. But anyway, the food was good. My husband loved the biscuits and gravy. The french toast was to die for! I also had the rancheros but didn't like the soft tortilla and I thought the salsa was bland (out of a jar generic).

We took a weekend trip to NYC with friends and just love Jane!! We had been here with the same friends two years ago and had brunch at Jane but I think the food this weekend surpassed our first experience here. We ate at wonderful restaurants all weekend but my favorite meal was at Jane. Can't wait to take my boys there!

We enjoyed an ideal dining experience.

While brunches usually serve the regulars, I love that Jane expands their eggs Benedict selections, putting crab cake and grits instead of the traditional english muffin. I really do love it, although perhaps if they could do their grits slightly flatter so there's not so much, it would be most excellent balance otherwise. Potatoes were really good! If they could take the greasy out of the bacon slightly, it was slightly off putting to see all of that grease shining in the dim light. French toast was very very good, although I do wish other fruits such as blueberries or raspberries were options, even for a dollar more. Drinks were good - bloody mary's came with olives/green tomato instead of celery, or an option for diners would be great.

We spent the long weekend in NYC and mapping out places to eat is always a challenge. I chose "Jane" based on some good reviews...and on a whim. We could not have been happier with the outcome. Our dinner at "Jane" was by far and away the best meal we had in our four days in NYC. The house special on Mondays turned out to be the best fried chicken (really!) I've ever had. And the ribs are outstanding. To validate our food-swooning, we heard much ooohing and ahhhing from the diners at nearby tables. Add to that, the wait staff are excellent; attentive, friendly and gracious. To make our experience even more remarkable: our $$ tab was about half of what we spent at other restaurants over the weekend. "Jane" is definitely a winner!

We went on a Sunday night to celebrate a few things and enjoyed the great steak frites deal that is offered then. We shared an appetizer and a dessert as well. The steak was juicy and delicious, there really were a mountain of frites on the plate, and the dessert was excellent. I also really enjoyed my cocktail (although standard practices indicate that any cocktail with lemon and clear alcohol is going to be a good one), called the French 75. The restaurant was about half-empty, but it was a Sunday night before a holiday so it's not surprising. Service was attentive, noise level was surprisingly low, and overall a very enjoyable experience.

I used to always take visiting friends here and would go here for special occasions. They have raised their prices several times in the last year. They changed their recipe on my favorite dish. So not only does it cost more but you get less. The hostess is always rude, even when I was having a birthday brunch there. I'm kinda over this place. I hear Penelope is fantastic.

I booked this place for brunch to celebrate the success if a project with my team. It was 8 of us and my one year old baby. As soon as we get there The blond hostess was already being extremely rude to us beacuse we had ONE person missing. The 8th person was stuck on the subway. The baby doesn't understand that we can not eat beacuse we are ahort one person so I explained the situation and she proceed to be rude and told us we would have to wait 30min. What's the point of making a reservation them?? We left and went to Dos Caminos and had a great time!!

Tried their sweet and savory brunch items, all very nice. Everything crepe and their rosemary home fries are definitely worth noting. Wish they can expand their pancake, french toast choice, these are very brunch popular, if they can do their own twist and add new elements into them, they should be a big hit too ( now the french toast is just normal, nothing special, and no pancake option).
