Diner Reviews
  • "A great evening of food & wine. If you like tapas, this place is a must."

  • "I have eaten here once before and felt, although good, the food on my first visit was better. I also liked the selection of dishes much better on the first visit. Everything was tasty but I think a better explanation of each dish, written on the menu itself, would be a better option for choosing what you want to eat. I ordered the tuna dish thinking it would be what you usually get in other restaurants (a cooked large piece, enough to share) and got, instead, slices of barely cooked tuna. It tasted good, but it was not what I expected. I would recommend the restaurant, but make sure you get a full explanation, from the wait staff, of the dishes you are ordering."

  • "overall good place but very different from Amada so don't expect the same experience. This is more geared toward meat lovers and the dining area is very small"

  • "A new twist for the Spanish Tapas and the best creme catalan I've ever tasted. Good Sangria but not out of this world. Awesome Ambience and really friendly staff!"

  • "All four of us chose the special 10 course veggie tasting menu, even though, only 2 of us are vegetarians. And we all enjoyed our experience. The service was very attentive and well versed on the extensive menu. They were spot on with the timing of so many small plates. The eggplant spread with the grilled bread was delicious. And we loved the potato skins. My favorite was the smoked lentils and mushrooms. We will go back again."

  • "A fine take on tapas. A wonderfully designed, but small place. Food was very good, especially those donuts for dessert!"

  • "The food was good, we had the vegetarian tapas and sampling menu. We enjoyed all 10 courses. The beat course was not too tasty and one of the being dishes had too much salt. Overall though we had an enjoyable experience. We will go back."

  • "Had a night out with my S.O. on Sunday. I don't eat meat so I jumped at the chance to try the vegetarian tasting menu. We were not disappointed. There was plenty of food-I was stuffed by the end. I particularly enjoyed the cheese croquettes and the cold tomato soup. Will definitely come back when they host another veggie tasting menu. I saw that there were quite a few vegetarian tapas on the regular menu so I might be back even sooner!"

  • "Enjoyed dinner for four. Arrived on time for reservation and were seated right away. Server was helpful and informative, but not pushy. Dishes were fabulous. Will return."

  • "Took my new guy here for the beginning of our first date. I had heard good things about the restaurant from one of the chefs at Grocery next door. My date and I were able to split a bunch of tasty nibbles and order them independently to fully enjoy each offering in succession. The banquet we were seated at was cozy, although the restaurant did get a little busy with noise, but that just gave us a reason to lean in closer. The waiter , Nick, was super friendly and gave great suggestions and did not try to rush us through the meal. The chicken liver mousse, eggplant fries, and bronzino were excellently executed, but the star was the papas fritas with the homemade sherry vinegar hot sauce...so decadent. Next time I will save room for dessert."

  • "The wine and fideau of Valencia were beautifully paired - the chef and sommelier did a perfect job."

  • "The staff at Jamonera were very courteous to our dining party on Saturday. They were very attentive to our needs and made sure that our experience was pleasant."

  • "Wonderful experience at Jamonera--the Jamon Iberico was a gift from the heavens. And it was accompanied by a host of excellent small plates -- oh yes! Waitstaff paid attention to our pre-theatre schedule!"

  • "My husband & I have tried to get into Jamonera several times but it's always packed with a long wait. So for our anniversary, I made a reservation in advance. While the food was very good & the atmosphere cozy, it was the service that was very disappointing. From the hostess, to our waitress, to the food runners, the staff seemed to be in a bad mood- very curt, not friendly & completely lack-luster. This set the vibe of the restaurant as tired and almost depressing. On a much-anticipated Saturday night, we couldn't wait to get out of there and go somewhere with some energy!"

  • "I love Spanish food and Jamonera is authentic, playful and flavorful Spanish cuisine. The paella actually has a crust in the bottom and my complain about it is that it was not enough rice, meaning there was too much of all the other wonderful proteins and ingredients. The tapas listes as small plates are quite large, but the entrees are actual tapas size. The sauce they use for patatas bravas is fantastic, the camarones al ajillo are spicy and garilcy (as they should be) and the red sangria is great! To end the meal we had their chocolate bread pudding and it was delicious. The table next to us had the doughnuts and while we wanted to try those as well, we could not because we had eaten so much already. I strongly recommend this place."

  • "Promptly seated and good service. The place is cute, but I can't figure out why the bar is so large. Decent selection of beer and wine. My friend and I ordered papa frita, the medjool dates, and chicken liver mousse to start. They were all good, but the medjool dates were quite tasty. Second round was spanish octopus and grilled camerones. The shrimp were exceptional, definitely something to order again. We then went with the Chef's Board and found it to be ho-hum, average, nothing outstanding. We shared a dessert and ordered the Jamonera Sunday which was really good. The meal was overall good, sharing tapas is always fun. I'd certainly go back."

  • "This is food fit for the gods--every dish is delicious in a complex and yet earthy way. The gifts of the earth are truly appreciated here, combined with rich variety, and they are presented beautifully by attentive and well-informed waitstaff."

  • "We went here for my husband's birthday and the food was absolutely PHENOMENAL!!!!! Dates wrapped in bacon, butternut squash coquettes, the vegetable platter (including fried artichoke hearts and grilled fennel) and the most perfect bronzino....all finished off with the most decadent bunuelos. I will be dreaming of each perfect plate for weeks!!!"

  • "Generally it was a very good choice. There were two of us, ordered six tapas as suggested by our waiter, and two desserts. We were stuffed when finished. Fried potatoes and eggplant (two separate dishes, names simplified) were great. So was the fried goat cheese and the Bronzino. What we did not like was the octopus (mushy taste, did not go well with the beans also served in the same bowl) while the jamon iberico was laced with more fat than we were used to having. The desserts, creme brûlée and fried donuts were exemplary. We would definitely go back with friends."

  • "I was not impressed by Jamonera. The cocktails were good, the service was great, but the tapas and dessert were nothing special. Will probably not go back again given the prices... Too expensive!"

  • "Enjoy a little touch of Spain when you visit Jamonera. They offer delicious small plates which can be shared. The menu offers a mix of American foods with a Spanish presentation and flavor. Our short ribs melted in your mouth and the toasted bread was addicting! Come see what it all about!"

  • "Good food, excellent company - good reasonable wine list. Fun, fun, fun."

  • "I wish I could have eaten there, as the menu looked terrific, but despite making a reservation 10 days in advance, confirming it by phone, and showing up on time, they did not have a table for me and seemed pretty unconcerned about it. It was 6:45 and the place was packed, making me doubt the 15 min estimate. I get that small restaurants have to keep their tables filled, but why accept my reservation and then treat me rudely? I often walk in to restaurants and am told there's an hour wait, but I'm made to feel welcome. Jamonera didn't even suggest I have a drink at the bar, probably because there was no room, or send me to another bar and offer to call me when my table was ready. Fortunately, there are plenty of good restaurants nearby."

  • "The pork tasting menu was outstanding. There really wasn't a weak dish out of the 10 items we tried. The price was great too - $45 for that high quality tasting menu was a steal. I was stuffed by the end of the meal. Definitely will return."

  • "When I tasted the Paella Mixta, I was truly transported to Spain. The dish lived up to its true, authentic Spanish name; the paradigm and epitome of Spanish Paella. The rice on the bottom of the Paella dish was crisp to perfection, yet rich and moist above and throughout. Not to mention, the portion was very generous. The skin of the chicken thigh was crisped to perfection, yet juicy and tender inside. The pork belly added a sweet and salty aspect and some variants in texture. Just like symphonic instruments of varying textures, the accompaniments of shrimp, mussels, calamari, and chorizo brought the dish together so harmoniously. The bread pudding with the salted caramel drizzle was the end to a perfect gourmet reverie."

  • "Our party of 4 sampled a wide variety of items on the menu. Each item was excellent. The wine list is limited but the offerings are well matched with the food and moderate in price (for a restaurant). Our server was delightfully cheerful, enthusiastic and thorough in her descriptions of the items. Sizes of portions are small to medium, making it easy to satisfy everyone's appetite even if they vary considerably. Jamonera is a real find."

  • "Jamonera is an excellent restaurant with some exceptional dishes. The name comes from the tradttional Spanish holder for a cured ham. The setting is intimate and cozy (perhaps a bit too cozy for some) and the service was professional and attentive. A “tapas style” menu means you can have variety and opportunity to share. However, the portions are larger than an authentic tapas. They wait staff will suggest more than you actually need. Three and an order of their delicious grilled bread would probably be adequate for most people. The grilled octopus absoltely great - great texture, which means a lot for octopus. Highly recommend the eggplant fries. Can not recommend this place high enough!"

  • "The food was excellent but felt like we were packed in like sardines. Small table - cell phone fell on floor - glass of water tipped over... You get it..."

  • "My favorite restaurant in the city! Rarely does a restaurant provide both outstanding food and service. Layer on ambience and you will never be disappointed! The food will leave you anticipating your next visit. The service is excellent and the staff warm and friendly!"

  • "Jamonera was fantastic! Try the scallops and the shaved salad. The vegetable board was surprisingly good. Don't miss the donuts for dessert!"

  • "I treated a friend for her birthday. My boyfriend and I have been to Jamonera before, but only for drinks. This was my first time dining there. The food was GREAT, and the service was even BETTER!! It was a lot of fun! The drinks were very good too! The only negative thing I have to say is that it seems there is a space issue. We were seated at a tiny table near where the stairs are. The waiters/waitresses seemed to have to dodge my chair every time they passed, which made me feel like I was very much in the way and uncomfortable. Outside of that, my experience was fabulous!! I would certainly go back!!"

  • "My husband and I went here for his birthday recently, and we very much enjoyed the paella and sangria night set menu. Three tapas to start, a choice of paella, and a choice of sangria. Perfect portions for two people, and the paella was some of the best I've tasted. Exactly what we wanted to remind us of warmer weather in warmer climates."

  • "I have eaten here numerous times and loved their food. However, I ate there Monday night for the paella night and was not impressed at all. The fried potatoes were burnt, the shaved salad was way too salty and inedible. All in all it was a very disappointing experience. In general I enjoy the food here, but 75 dollars later and it was a let down. I will not be returning for some time."

  • "Excellent and friendly service. My husband and I selected four dishes and it was more than enough for us. The food was outstanding -- flavorful and different. The croquettas and Brussels sprouts were delicious and I'm not even a sprouts fan. Took me back to Spain. We will definitely return."

  • "What makes this restaurant unique is their top flight list of sherries. You can mix and match and the staff are very informative and patient. The Tapas menu is very diversified. I wish there were more vegetarian and non red meat choices."
