James Beach has the right amount
of everything to make for an extremely enjoyable dining experience. Beautiful shorefront location and atmosphere, awesome food, and attentive service. Highly recommended"

We ate at Jame's beach and had a
great experience. The outdoor seating area was very nice. All of the food was delicious, the tacos were some of the best I every had. Simple ingredients and you assemble them yourself. The warm chocolate chip cookies were a moist, soft, and right our of the oven! You get 7 cookies!"
Dined on 8/9/2014
The food is great, especially the
mahi magi tacos. Good wine. The staff is really friendly. We went on a busy night so we had to wait longer for food and drinks but they were very apologetic and made us aware of the delay, so no biggie."

My wife and I were on vacation and
visited James' Beach because we heard from our favorite movie "I Love You, Man" that they had the best fish tacos. They were great! What was even better, we went on a Tuesday and it was Taco Tuesday! Perfect!"
Dined on 7/29/2014
Fish tacos were some of the best
in town easily. Last order an OK size of fish was on there. This is now an OK place for Fish tacos. Apparently someone feels saving money is worth at least this person not going there for fish tacos anymore."
Dined on 7/20/2014
Had a great meal however the
manager asked us to get up before our bill was paid. Then I was pushed by him multiple times while trying to pay. Other than that everything was great. Hostess Cheyenne was amazing!"
Dined on 7/19/2014
I need to give a very special
shout out to Lindsey, our hostess who took exceptional care of me while my dinner date was running late and then upgraded our table as soon as a booth became available. She went above and beyond her duties and definitely made the night AMAZING! The food - spectacular! Had the duck confit tacos and can't wait to go back for more! Portions are generous and presentation was mouth watering."

Love to combine James' Beach with
annual "in town" visit to Venice...where I grew up...walk the boardwalk, visit art galleries, show off the canals...it never fails to make it a grand day."
Dined on 7/18/2014
Watch out for the blond, mid-40s
woman tending bar. She spilled a beer on my lap before my dinner and almost insinuated that it was "my" accident. Really too flippant about it which turned me off and hardly offered to help, instead deferring to bar backs for help. If management is reading; you have a real dud on your hands. The manager came by at dinner to apologize and offered to pay the cleaning bill etc. but never followed up the rest of the night pro-actively. It put me in the awkward position of having to hunt him down on my way out which I wasn't prepared to do for the sake of my dinner companion."
Dined on 7/14/2014
I know it is popular and a fun
place to go, but the meals were just overage, nothing too special. I remember it being a bit stronger a few years back. Pretty sure I will not rush back any time soon"
Dined on 7/12/2014
Feel like I am on a vacation
everytime I eat here. Food is straight-forward, really good. Never had a bad meal here. It is happening without being overly loud, and you can enjoy a good conversation as well as good food."
Dined on 7/6/2014
You're asking for a review and I'm
disappointed to say we didn't have a great dinner or experience at James Beach. The wine was served warm, the waitress upsold on food. After we clearly asked about the size of the servings we ended up with way too much food, paid way too much for what was a casual dinner at a nice restaurant. The wait staff changed over often, no consistency to staff."
Dined on 7/5/2014
Used to eat here all the time,
can't believe how bad the service was. Saw 3 tables leave and almost did the same. Food was good once it finally arrived despite wrong food and a few missing items."
Dined on 7/3/2014
This is about are 5th time there
so I am familiar with the menu which is always good the only flaw and I mean flaw is the service.......the food takes so very long to come out and they are not complicated dishes!"
Dined on 6/29/2014
James Beach is great but brunch is
especially good! They also serve the most wonderful scones!"
Dined on 6/29/2014
It had been many years since we
went to James Beach. Unfortunately, we brought some friends who never been and the food was such a disappointment. We had to bring back the fish twice for being overcooked and they still couldn't seem to get it right. Some of the food was definitely over salted, just simple mistakes. Maybe the bar for a drink isn't so bad..."
Dined on 6/21/2014
The only dish that didn't
disappoint us was our daughter's lox and bagel plate and even with that, the bagel was small and wasn't really toasted very much. With my Eggs Benedict, I asked for the whites to be cooked but the yolks runny and our server said that the chef in the back was "really good with that technique". Yolks were cooked all the way through, the hollandaise sauce was off-tasting and the English muffin was almost too hard to cut with a table knife, it was barely warm. My husband's omelet contained all of the listed ingredients, but was totally bland. Our other daughter's french toast was not cooked all the way through; always a danger with a dish using raw eggs. All in all a very disappointing meal. We won't be back."

WE ALL LOVED THIS PLACE, IS VERY
RELAX AND LOVED THE DECORATION. THE FOOD WAS GOOD ESPECIALLY THE FISH TACOS!!"
Dined on 6/13/2014
Hadn't been there in a while.
Especially nice for out of town guests."

Took our friend's parents here for
dinner recently, and they're older so we wanted to make sure they'd be comfortable. Also along for the ride, was their 6-year-old grand-daughter, who quickly made friends with another girl at a nearby table. While we enjoyed our cocktails and dinner, (the special was a delicious, free-range fried chicken which many of us succumbed to) the girls played and enjoyed themselves. Our meals were delicious, and we were amazed that the wait staff were so accommodating of our evening out with a young diner. We really appreciated the warmth and understanding of the staff, especially in allowing for such a playful dinner. Many thanks for that!!! You are a favorite of ours <3"

We had a reservation for 7pm but
arrived at about 6:30 and the restaurant was empty. They seated us in the back of the restaurant at a crappy table and I should have insisted on being moved. But we sat where they seated us and then we were completely neglected by the staff -- had to ask four times to get the candle on our table lit, they got the orders wrong and it was overall a very un-festive feeling. Will not be going back which is unfortunate because I would frequent this place a lot. It has gone down hill for sure."

James beach dining room is an
eclectic elegant eatery. We had a great meal. "

Every time I visit Venice I always
see the outside and am intrigued. Finally came for my birthday dinner and loved it! Not too pricey"
Dined on 5/17/2014
James Beach has been a favorite of
ours since moving to Venice several years ago. We especially love the garden/outdoor area, and the sand dabs! Saturday night is way too noisy and crowded (service not as good) for us boomers . . . but any other time, it's a wonderful experience."
Dined on 5/17/2014
we have been going to James Beach
since it opened and it is one of our favorite spots. The food is always good, the art superb and the welcome makes you feel like home. Location just off the beach makes it perfect for a stroll. a look at more art across the street and then sink into one of their booths. Perfect."
Dined on 5/13/2014
We tried James' Beach for the
first time for Mother's Day brunch. Horrible! The main entree was fried chicken!! Who does that??? The rest of the buffet brunch selection was less than mediocre. At one point, their fish tacos were brought out. Not something that I would rave about. Would not go back. Left a bad taste in my mouth. ~ pun intended"
Dined on 5/11/2014
Came here for Mother's Day Brunch
($35/pp) and the food was all cold. Laid out in a buffet style, but like a buffet that a really sad cruise ship would have. We were also charged for things like coffee, and were charged for each refill of the teacup sized coffee cups... things like this should be included when you are paying $35 for food. Our server also forgot to bring things out on multiple occasions but they were getting busy and it's understandable. Overall we wasted a ton of money and will not be coming here again :("

Great find - nice atmosphere.
Loved the art on the walls. Would definitely go back. "

Invited some friends for brunch
around noon. Plenty of room, friendly, good food and service. "

Normally I would rate James Beach
higher-- it's a fun place with very good food. However, Open Table did not make it known that there was an Easter Brunch Buffet and not the normal Sunday Brunch/lunch menu available. The items in the buffet tasted fine, but the hot stuff was all cold (eggs benedict that had just been brought out) and the scones were incredibly dry. I would have preferred the regular Sunday menu-- would have cost less too! "

James Beach is a refreshing find.
Marina Del Rey and Venice are packed with mediocre and franchise restaurants with little or no personality. Enter James Beach. A cool, friendly, upscale but not snobby place that has great food served by very friendly people that appreciate your patronage. Menu is not too extensive but covers all the bases for most every taste. Calamari and Tuna Tar Tar were excellent as was the Cesar salad and Steak. The Salman and perfectly prepared roasted Chicken were outstanding. We've been there a number of times on dates and hosted groups. Very good wine list. Highly recommended ."

we checked into James Beach
Restaurant at 7 p_m sunday night for our Open Table dinner reservation. Excellent place James Beach, great Ambience and not too crowded. I Usually receive my Points by now just wanted to make sure I receive credit? John Bertrand."

My fiancé and I went there last
Saturday. We ordered the half dozen oysters (5 stars, so so yummy!) and the spinach dip to start (3 stars a bit bland for my taste). For the mains I ordered the shrimp tacos and it was the best entree I've had in a very long time. Simple, tasty and fresh! Can't wait to go back!"
Dined on 3/29/2014
Service S.L.O.W , Bar was great!
Food tasteless, though vegetables appeared fresh just no flavor, chicken that was main course , same. Great buzz to the pace after we left. Probably a great bar scene, just eat before you get there"

Nice place to eat, feels like a
Malibu restaurant in venice"

I had a reservation for 4 at 7pm
on a Sunday night. The front bar area had plenty seats so we asked to be seated in the "fun" zone. The host said the tables are reserved, but I guess our reservation didn't count. I let the host know we would be quick because I was taking my visiting cousins to the airport. No go… We took the main restaurant seats. Then the bad service started. Apps were ordered immediately, but took about 30 minutes to come out. Entrees came out in waves about 5 minutes apart. Near the end we had to ask our server to get up from having a seat with 3 of his friends. I know everyone needs a break, but not right in front of the customer. Fish tacos, sand dabs and burger were good. The Bisque was not hot and not much taste."
Dined on 3/16/2014
James Beach always has a good vibe
and is a fun place to be. The food is good, but not outstanding. The service can go either way. The last time we were there, the waiter was mindless, forgetting things right and left. But in the end it was a fun night as tends to be the case at James Beach."
Dined on 2/22/2014
This neighborhood institution
needs a refresh. It’s like everyone has been there so long that they don’t see or taste that things are not as good as they could be. Food was not prepared with any finesse, everything was over salted, there was no presentation – the food was just slapped on the plate. Someone need to take a hard look at the interior and spruce it up. (New carpeting?! Fresh coat of paint?! Maybe wipe the chairs clean before a patron sits on them?!) You want to LOVE this place. But, currently it’s not worth it."
Dined on 2/22/2014
The patio had a private party, so
we almost went to One Pico for a b-day brunch. SO glad we stayed here. It's obvious why this eatery enjoys such longevity. We watched James check every dish coming out of his kitchen. He was an endearing & generous host (despite his taste for atonal jazz, LOL.) We never sit indoors here, but it was sunny & cozy, the waitstaff was fun & efficient, food was a solid "A" and the bartender made a PROPER Ramos Fizz (a brunch staple they can't get right at One Pico or Ivy at the Shore.) We have no ties to this restaurant or to its owner, but we so rarely have such sincerely nice things to say about dining in our overly trendy Venice neighborhood, we felt like sharing them. Thank you again, James, good show!"
Dined on 2/22/2014
Our table for 6 was very crowded
and awkwardly shaped. Some of us were crammed together, others were on a point of the table so a bit awkward. The time from ordering to serving was very slow (drinks took 15 minutes, appetizer took 20 minutes and dinner was 45 minutes AFTER appetizer). Someone else's appetizers were served to our table and we all looked perplexed until the server came back and took them away. The calamari came out cold and without a dipping sauce. 3 meals came out ahead of the other three meals and they were also missing a component of the meal. The bathrooms are unisex and even early in the evening were very dirty."
