Diner Reviews
  • "Great Tapas. Excellent paella, gin and tonic oysters, rabbit confit"
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "Jaleo is an amazing tapas place. 6 of us went on July 4th and were seated at one of the front foosball tables. My husband and his buddy loved that they could be 12 again during dinner. We ordered a good variety of tapas. While the plates are small, there was plenty for everyone to pass around and share. We were stuffed but the pistachio gelato is a must."

  • "Lovely experience with delicious food in a lively atmosphere that was not too noisy. Terrific location and perfect timing for theatre!"

  • "Great food, great ambiance. Highly recommend anyone stopping by D.C. to put Jaleo on their list of restaurants to visit."

  • "Birthday dinner in DC. Randomly ordered many tapas. Jamon melts in your mouth. Liquid olives a must. Stop reading this and make a reservation now. You won't be disappointed."
    Dined on 9/25/2013
  • "I am a big fan of all Jose Andres offers so I may be a bit biased. However, I can be balanced. Jaleo is just a prime example of why I love him. Great atmosphere and service but the food is what shines-- basic Spanish tapas done up just a tad to make them different than any other Spanish tapas place and perfectly executed every time. Jaleo's sidewalk seating is the epitome of the tapas experience...laid back to give the diner the opportunity to get a broad taste of the menu while really enjoying each dish as a new experience. If you are in a rush, however, don't come here. The service is fantastic and timely, but you will miss the whole point of dining here."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "Usually, Jaleo is tops. Unfortunately, they fell short on delivery of food and service this time around. The food was too greasy...not just 1 dish but 2. Vegetables were overcooked, salted and way too much oil-not the quality expected and usually have. The service was slow and they were not overly crowded as it was before Dinner rush and after lunch rush."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Once again, the food and service at JALEO were super excellent in every way. I shared the meal with two New Yorkers who were ecstatic about the food and the experience."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Perfect for getting together with friends to sample a variety of foods and enjoy a few cocktails. Everything we sampled was delicious and the service was good. Atmosphere was lively and invited conversation. Wouldn't be my choice for a romantic evening but it was great spot to catch up with friends and family."

  • "Always enjoy the food but always also feel the servers are rushed...like they drop stuff off and run before you can make eye contact and thus ask them a question. BUT, Jose Andres is still one of my favorite chefs and people in general. Love his food and his humanitarian efforts!"
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "The food was absolutely wonderful but I found a hair in the calamari. The server seemed annoyed when we pointed it out... Which was beyond me."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "This time it was the squash blossoms filled with goat cheese, battered and fried. There were various watermelon specialties too. There is always something new and interesting on the menu, but there are also all our usual favorites. This is a terrific place to come, either before or after the theater, or for a special occasion."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Really fabulous food! A great place during World Cup month too! Favorite food was the Gaszpacho!"
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "My wife and I enjoyed the hanger steak and shrimp in garlic sauce, after the apple and cheese salad and sautéed spinach with pine nuts - for a memorable dinner. We also had the jam on iberico, but it was a bit salty for our taste. This was a great holiday choice on a short visit to Washington DC."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "Enjoyable atmosphere and decent food. Wide range of choice selection. Nothing I was too excited about. But could be good for others."
    Dined on 7/1/2014
  • "I was vacation in DC and found this amazing place. I wish there was one near me. It was my first experience with tapa dining and I loved it! Every single item I tried was absolutely delicious! I went for my wedding anniversary and I would 100% recommend it to anyone!"

  • "You are guaranteed great food if you walk into any of Jose Andre's restaurants. Jaleo had a busy lunch crowd on Thursday. As I walked in you felt a buzz. We were acknowledged right away and brought to your seat. Great food which was brought to the table in a timely manner. Will always go back."

  • "Because I made my reservation on OpenTable, I was NOT allowed to sit with my guest at a window table despite there being 3-4 available and unused for the duration of my hour long lunch. The hostess informed me that we had not made that request at the time of the reservation. Didn't know I had to or that "option" was available. Surprised it isn't an obvious courtesy/ policy to offer that either by the restaurant or via OpenTable. Concerned now this is policy at all restaurants that I book with OpenTable and makes me less inclined to use OpenTable. I didn't much of it at the time, but I was not seated at a window table at my last lunch reserved on OpenTable. We'll see about my next one... today."

  • "The food was good, but not extraordinary. Good sangria. Overall, not worth the price."

  • "This is a big scale crowed party restaurant which spills onto the side walk. While it's a good vibe and people watching spot the food it top notch. Four of us ordered at least 14 dishes and all were excellent. The bread with tomato paste was great - we got 2 portions. Salads also excellent and quite big for tapas It's a great place to go to try 3/4 various dishes and gave fun. Great gin & tonics to start and the wine list is obviously mostly Spanish and comes on an iPad that allows you to drill down into great detail. Great service by our young waiter We also eat at Cafe Milano in Georgetown on our visit but Jaleo easily won out for the food and atmosphere."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "I think that we did not make good choices with the food. I did not like my two choices. Everything else was fine."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "My husband and I have gone to several other Jose Andres restaurants and have thoroughly enjoyed it. We were excited to try Jaleo, but the food jsut did not compare to the others. There were a couple of dishes that were really good, the Mini-Hamburgers were exceptional, but everything else was okay and very salty."

  • "This was the second time I have been to Jaleo and it was just as good as the first time! We went with some friends and did the experience tasting menu. It was the perfect amount of food with lots of variety.....although I could probably eat six or eight of those pork sliders with the awesome patatas bravas! It's fun to have lots of little things to share but then have something hearty like paella. We are going to branch out and try more of Jose's restaurants!"

  • "Best Spanish tapas outside of Spain. Did the tasting menu and was full beyond belief"
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Crazy busy at Jaleo, but we did manage to convince them that we didn't want to sit in the row of tables where you are so close to your "neighbors" that it is difficult to have a conversation... Food terrific as always. Especially notable on this visit was the heirloom tomato salad with slivers of Kalamata olives and blue cheese. Seasonal, refreshing and something you would like to eat every day. The tomatoes were truly perfect!"
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "I can always rely on jaleo to have an outstanding menu that also caters to gluten free customers. It is easy to share dishes - using both menus. Also the staff really knows their dishes and offer reliable advice. Great sangria."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "Food was really good! Server provided some great choices!"

  • "Great food, interesting choices. Loved everything we picked."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "We got to Jaleo about two hours before our reservation on a Sunday. The staff was accommodating, the sangria which they are known for kept coming and the food was delicious. The World Cup was on and the place was hopping."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "We have not been to Jaleo in probably over a year but decided to go back before a play. We wondered why it took us so long to get back there. The food is still as fresh and delicious as ever. We had the tomato bread which I immmediately tried to replicate the next night at home. We shared several other dishes including a cod special in honor of the World Cup, a selection of cured hams (delicious), mushroom salad, tuna tartare, and salted potatoes with dipping sauces. We finished with the chocolate ice cream. We want to go back to try the tasting menu soon. Of course, the above is all the my version of the english translation. The wait staff is well trained in discussing all the dishes which is very helpful. Definitely go to Jaleo."

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant if you are looking for high quality food and service. While it can get expensive, the atmosphere and service are worth the price!"
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "This has been one of my faves for years. Food is lovely, waitstaff are helpful and cocktails are inspiring. Love the wild berry soup with goat cheese ice cream."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "We have been coming to Jaleo for 18 years and usually can count on excellent food, very good service and a loud atmosphere. This time we found the service poor and the food has definitely gone downhill. When I told the waiter that we were having the worst service in 18 years, instead of saying he was sorry, blamed it on the kitchen (the restaurant was busy but not as packed as on our other occasions)."
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "Jaleo is always a reliable place for very good to excellent food and fine service. The wait staff knows the food & wines and can make good and knowledgeable recommendations. The tapas can be pricey, but they're always good."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "Jaleo is one of my favorite restaurants, not only in Washington--and it has been for many years. The food just gets better and better, and I've now discovered some Spanish wines there that were completely unknown to me previously. I'll come back at every opportunity."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "Excellent service. Accomodated us as we had to go to theater. Food delicious."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "There for dinner on a World Cup night so atmosphere was vibrant. We were seated near the kitchen exit and asked to be moved. We were accommodated quickly. Our tapas arrived nicely paced and were delicious- apple and fennel salad, fried salt cod balls, sweet onions with pine nuts and blue cheese and chorizo."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "This was my second visit, and I'm once again impressed with the combination of ingredients that creates unique dishes. Fun to share, great atmosphere, fantastic service!"

  • "I cannot say how much I enjoy eating at this restaurant. I eat here fairly often and have never been disappointed. The staff there are always courteous and attentive. The food takes me back to Spain. With such a huge menu, you've got more than enough reason to dine here often."
    Dined on 10/14/2013
  • "My daughter and I went for dinner. As a Spanish and Latin American Studies graduate, and as someone who lived in Spain, she found the food very authentic and brought back great memories. The service was fantastic, as well."
