  • "Great character and choices of tapas. the outdoor seating area was vibrant. Our server Kevin was exceptional and he recommended Lobster Paella."

  • "Great way to sample many foods with friends. We enjoyed the outdoor sitting and variety of foods. some were better for us then others."

  • "Loud music on top of a noisy nvironment made the otherwise good dinner unpleasant. We arrived early (6:30), before a movie. The average age where we were seated (not in the bar area) was probably 55, yet the noise level was what you'd expect at 9:00 at the bar. Three od us had to shout to converse. Nearby diners complained about the racket as well. We won't go back for at dinner time, much as we like the food."

  • "Jaleo is always fun; tapas are a very "sociable" food, inviting sharing, and I took a friend there for her birthday lunch on an uncharacteristically temperate July day, so we enjoyed the scene from an outdoor table, where most diners seemed to prefer sitting that day. Management quickly set up a table in the unused part of the outdoor dining area, and that filled quickly. Food, wine, service all great."

  • "Everytime my family and I dine at Jaleo we enjoy great food, excellent service and a warm atmosphere. It feels like home!"

  • "Dinner we great! We where a party of six which made it fun to pick many tapas to share. They were all delicious, the only item that I would pass on in the future is the paella. My personal fav was the scallops. I'd give Jaleo 4.5 stars if I could. I'd recommend it for group dinners for sure. Go,have fun and keep the sangria flowing.."

  • "It's an OK restaurant. Nothing all that special. The food was fine."

  • "We dined late afternoon early evening when we felt the restaurant wouldn't be too crowded. the food and service was amazing, love Jaleo!"

  • "We had such an amazing dinner at Jaleo a couple weeks ago that I reserved a table again for 5 for 7:00 this past Sun.night. We were seated promptly at a great round table for five. At 7:30 we still had only waters sitting in front of us, even though we had promptly ordered drinks. The service on both of my recent trips was barely adequate, and on this occasion I would say it was poor. A couple weeks ago, I forgave the ok service because the food was so awesome and when I snagged a waiter he did deliver. This time, however, the poor service detracted from the food experience, which was good but not as awesome as a couple weeks ago. The restaurant was lively but not packed, so I don't see an excuse for such poor/indifferent service."

  • "Jaleo food and service was great. My daughter, who is 8 years old, really enjoyed the food too."
    Dined on 7/6/2014
  • "Fairly decent food, though I was expecting more, especially for the price. HH specials in bar only - never a fan of that."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "The food is interesting, there just isn't very much of it, and the cost of the dishes really adds up. If you pace yourself, you can eat well and not go away stuffed. The temptation is to order everything at the beginning, and you may end up with a surprisingly large bill if you go in there hungry. Order slowly and savour."

  • "My good friend took me out for a birthday lunch. We arrived early, and was concerned how empty it wasn it soon filled up! Friend ordered gazpacho and a lamb sandwich, and I ordered three small plates. A beef dish, a crab dish, and fig with goat cheese. I know this is a small plate, but only got two tiny pita tips with the cheese and fig. Could be more generous there. In all, everything was delicious."

  • "Our waiter was efficient at the beginning but a bit odd – rolled his eyes at a request to wait a while to bring the next beer, obsessed over the fact we had the wrong menu, even when told we didn't mind, repeatedly told us he would bring a new menu, which we repeatedly refused. In the end, he brought us a new menu. Disappeared for very long period halfway through meal. Restaurant had very thoughtfully set up many television screens so we could watch the World Cup. However, many waiters stood in the middle of the restaurant to watch the game, blocking everybody else's view and neglecting the service. Restaurant's policy of delivering items to table without regard to who ordered it is easier for the restaurant, but irritating for the diner."

  • "Were the cooks distracted by the World Cup games? What's happended to quality control and consistency? Is Jose spread too thin? Usually, the food is very tasty and well-prepared, but not that night. Green salad with anchovies: Lettuce was wet and soggy. White bean salad: meh, looked pretty, but not very flavorful, small portion but who cares b/c it wasn't very tasty. Grilled sardines (special of the day): Mushy texture. Must have left Spain many days ago. Loin lamb chops (also special of the day): 2 very small and thin chops, not worth $12, sauce too intense and sweet, and too much of it. Sardines and lamb were very very slow to be served. Last time my husband was this annoyed at Jaleo we didn't go back for one year!"

  • "We enjoyed a wonderful meal at Jaleo before a movie. The staff was cordial and helpful throughout. The food was outstanding, as always, especially the vegetable dishes. One of us has Celiac and was able to order easily from a dedicated gluten-free menu that offered a wide variety of choice."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "While the food was truly wonderful at Jaleo, they pour the shortest glass of wine I've experienced...just barely half a glass! One would think they'd be embarrassed. Don't know how often I'll be going back because of this."

  • "We were seated between the kitchen and the door to outside seating- a bad location. At one point a waiter corralled the manager right in front of us and led him to the kitchen quickly saying 'you're not going to like what you see in there'. I had asked for a glass of white sangria- only was available by the carafe for $40. The waitress was good and asked the manager and was told no. So I asked the manager. He was very abrupt and again said no, they have to open a whole bottle of cava. There was no finesse to the answer. I was clearly bothering him. The front staff, however, couldn't have been more welcoming. Two at the desk, one to seat us. I love the food here. Just needed to complain about the manager."

  • "we chose Jaleo for the last evening of a family visit. we had a great corner table although sadly right under a speaker but our waiter did try to get the sound down. the food favorites: the stuffed peppers, the endive, the pan con tomate, the jamon assortment, the spinach, and the asparagus. the olive oil was delicious and fragrant with the bread (need more bread for a table of 5). the service including not just the waiter but the supporting cast also was very attentive. a couple things: personally I prefer the old décor with the picture of the dancer from El Jaleo and the roses. also, I miss the lamb chops which were a family favorite. the sausage when cut is a little dry - the old sausage with mash you cut yourself."

  • "We have been to Jaleo in Bethesda several times. Overall it is a very good ecperience. This time however some tapas that we know came not well prepared. Manzana (apple) dish was not good. There was hardly any apple in it, but a lot of vinegar. Also, pork sausage with beans was a bit too heavy"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Food was not memorable. Noise and overrated. We order lobster paleya as a main dish it was too salty and lobster hard to crack. Shell was to soft. I am a lobster lover and experienced lobster eater. Waste of money!"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Especially on a nice evening sitting outside -- in which case, it's even quiet, which isn't the case inside. Not many new discoveries this time, but the white gazpacho, spinach with pine nuts, endives with goat cheese, and oysters gin and tonic are always fantastic."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Easy reservation and parking, service manager, Clare, very friendly and attentive, wide variety of cuisine with nice portions"
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "They have crowded the tables and we were seated in the middle. We kept getting bumped by the waiters and received no apology. The waitress we had was very aloof and did not ask if we needed anything. We had to keep asking other wait staff for orders etc. The food was good but the rest of the experience totally killed the ambience."

  • "Overall the food was okay. Unfortunately the paella (rossejat) which should be a winner at any spanish restaurant was tasteless. It was a noodle-based paella with shrimp and calamari and it was not spiced and there were no other herbs or vegetables to liven it up. My dinner guest also agreed that it was not worth eating after we had a small portion. That was actually the largest tapa we got so it was a big disappointment. The white fish we got was also "meh" compared with most seafood that I have had. Otherwise both of the salads we had were delicious, as was the spinach and the fried eggplant. But those were all small plates."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "Had a fantastic meal here the other night. Fun new decor although I ate outside. My impression is that it is still noisy inside Every single tapa was amazing. Service was acceptable."
    Dined on 6/9/2014
  • "Dined at Jaleo on Sunday, party of 3. Each of us got 3-4 dishes, all delicious but the food at Jaleo is never bad though. One can eat vegetarian, healthy or meaty. It remains one of my favorite restaurants. One complaint ordered coffee with dessert which was forgotten by the server. It has happened before at Jaleo."
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "Jaleo is consistently excellent. The food is delicious, and it's a fun place to go with a larger group so that you can try more of the tapas!"
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "Arrived for dinner really hungry! Asked the waiter to make it quick and voila!! Fabulous food...and quick! And the waiter had a smile the hole time! "

  • "I met a friend for lunch on a Saturday at 1:45. The restaurant was quite empty. Despite the fact that no one needed our table, the waiter rushed us through the entire meal, to the point that it became a joke to us. Perhaps he was near the end of an unprofitable shift?Anyway, not the usual enjoyable, relaxing Jaleo experience - and it cut down on our ordering; we may have tried more tapas had we not been so rushed. Otherwise, the food was very good. However, the sangria was not up to the usual standard. It tasted just like a glass of house wine with a few berries dropped in the glass - no fruit flavor at all. Weird, because the Jaleo sangria is the usually second best I've had in the DC area (Mi Rancho in Silver Spring has the best)."

  • "The food here is very well prepared and comes out very fast. Mussels, tuna tartare, hanger steak, gazpacho and salads were all excellent. We have had some of the best food ever when visiting Barcelona, and this was much in the same vein with regard to creativity. Highly recommended!"

  • "Went for dinner. Food was just ok. Had been there before the menu change. Service was spotty. They forgot a dish and brought the wrong dessert."
    Dined on 6/5/2014
  • "The food is good and the service decent and it's fun to share dishes, but the bill mounts quickly and it can be very expensive for what is really a casual meal. Great place to go with friends, but I will give it a second thought based on cost."
    Dined on 6/4/2014
  • "We love Jaleo and this was our first time to the Bethesda location. Sarah was our server and she did a wonderful job! The only slight complaint is that there was too much time between some of the dishes, especially since it was a post-lunch and there were few customers at that time."
    Dined on 6/1/2014
  • "This was my second time in a month dining at Jaleo. I absolutely adore tapas restaurants. I find it fun to taste new and different things without committing to a huge meal, and I enjoy sharing with one another. The food here is incredible with a rather daunting extensive menu. However, having said that, the staff is so knowledgeable about the choices and so friendly that they graciously suggest dishes to try . On this occasion, our server Laura, when asked about a good choice of red wine, turned us over to the sommelier who listened to my taste in red wine and promptly suggested and produced the perfect wine. Staff, ambiance and the food, the very best in dining! I can't wait to go back on my next business trip!"

  • "Myself and seven other ladies had a marvelous time here. Tapas can be tricky but Jaleo plays it just right in the flavor and portion categories. The service was wonderful--quick and friendly. I would recommend it for small or large groups. The restaurant had a vibrant, inviting atmosphere. "

  • "Having been to Jaleo in DC we were looking forward to dinner in Bethesda. Before getting to the food, I have to say that the service was very good, attentive and very professional. The food on the other hand was not up to snuff. The only thing we ordered which was good was the Chicken Croquettes. The "famous" Gamba al Ajillo was lacking in taste and void of any garlic, The same goes for the Pollo al Ajillo con Salsa Verde. To be fair the chicken itself was fine. The worst thing that we ordered was the Rosejat, tradional paella with shrimp and calamari. It was inedible. To say it was fishy is a vast understement. it was absolutely horribe. Every aspect of it starting with the funky smell of it was terrible. It was not worth the bill we paid."
