  • "We order escargot and between snail and topping paper left on, we did not have to pay for it. Also made reservations stated it was an anniversay but this was not recognized. Not sure if only birthdays are recognized. Our waiter Eric was great. Everyone seemed very nice and the food was good. Not sure if we will go back for awhile though."

  • "I recently set up a reservation for a party of 6 for a Monday evening Corporate dinner. I used the on-line reservation which worked very well. We had a last minute change to the reservation, adding 3 additional people from our meeting and called Jakes 30 minutes before arriving asking if they could accomodate us. They were actually very busy for a Monday night and had to do some creative thinking and moving tables around to accomodate us. I was so happy that they took the "let me see what we can do" approach instead of saying No. Not only was the meal, wine and atmosphere great, the service and hospitality was a 10. I will definitely bring Executives and Clients to Jakes again."

  • "I've been to Jake's twice recently, once with a work group in a private dining area and the most recent with my wife for her birthday. Both were a great experience! The filet trio was superb and the cauliflower and brussel sprouts were awesome! Our waitress was very friendly and even brought my wife a complimentary chocolate sundae for her birthday! It was a great experience and we'll definitely go back!"

  • "Celebrated wife's birthday with a quiet dinner. Chose 8 oz filet and trio filets for entrees. Must admit the steaks were probably the best we have had in a restaurant!! Filets were prepared to perfection and the meat was so tender they could be cut with a fork! In addition the brussell [sp?] sprouts were out of this world - unbelievably delicious! I would return to Jake's just for the sprouts!! Totally enjoyed our evening - will return soon. Roy Hiir"

  • "Monday evening steak special is a great value. All four of our steaks were grilled exactly to our liking and the manager stopped by shortly after we tried them to be sure that was the case. Quality of the food hasn't changed over the many years that we've dined at Jake's — all first rate. Very extensive menu, and the times we've deviated from a steak entree, our expectations were exceeded. Soups are excellent and the onion rings are a "must-have" no matter what entree we're having. The service is outstanding."

The tasty cauliflower on Monday night as well as the Brussels sprouts were absolutely out of this world. I think a person could make a dinner just eating the variety of side dishes one can choose from on the menu. And the fillet mignon is a must. I'll see you again very soon. A long-standing customer"

  • "We always manage to get to Jake's when we go to Milwaukee and it never lets us down. Nice room with real fireplace, simple comfort food done very well. My only complaint is that the steaks are so large I can only ever order the 6 oz. filet. Would not be a problem if we lived there, could bring the leftovers home for another night, but not on travel. We especially enjoyed the cream of wild mushroom soup. The service is really nice and well paced, and the manager was delightful. Go!"

  • "When we arrived we weren't greeted promptly and there was a general feeling of disorganization. Our table was way too small for the extra large menus and extremely oversized plates. In addition, the sides for each entree came on additional serving pieces that added to the cramped feel. We spent the evening juggling menus and serving pieces - something that should not happen at this price point. Maybe the management is trying to modernize with more contemporary menus and serving pieces but instead creates an uncomfortable eating experience. Also, the tables were set way too close together adding to the cramped feel. It was also very cold. Though the food was fine I just wanted to get out of there by the end of the evening."

  • "My friend and I started out with drinks that were pretty weak. At $7.50 a pop I do expect to taste some alcohol. We ordered the bacon wrapped waterchestnuts which were delicious. We both had the 6oz. filet. I had mine with a twiced baked potato. It was crusted on top and burned. Once I picked that off it was ok. My potato was 1/4 wasted. The steaks were just average that night. It took over an hour from when we got our appetizer before our meals came. Our waitress had conveyed to us that it was taking unusually long and did apologize, as did the manager. We were offered a free drink or dessert. Our waitress had no personality. I have been to Jake's a few times and this night was really disappointing."

We didn't notice that on the confirmation until our arrival at Jake's in Del Mar, CA, and found that they did not even have our names. Nonetheless, since we were quite early, they were able to accommodate us, providing a desirable window table. This was intended as a very special occasion and was almost a disaster."

The ribeye steaks were cooked to perfection, the soups and sides delicious, and of course a starter of the haystack onion rings was a must. Our server, Ryan, was outstanding.   • "Our Valentines Day dinner reservation was for 6:30; we were seated at 7. The parking lot was full and we had to walk to and from from the icy street. The waiting area was congested, with tray-laden servers working their way through. It was too busy a night -- apparently overbooked and suffering from computer problems -- to make a fair judgment of the service, which was middling. The hostess was delightful and the waiter OK; just too busy. Wine was good; draft beer so-so. Jake's is noted for its onion rings and steaks, which is what we had. We were not disappointed. Good for dinner, but not on a day that is going to be a heavy dinner-date night."

Touted as fine dining restaurant but no linen table cloths. Too many tables squished in dining room so not very much room when actually siiting in chairs. Table size small so no room to place any side dishes. Bread and butter plates had to be removed just to make room for side dishes. Requested steak doneness levels inconsistent within our table. Would be hesitant to return on a busy night. Fairly long wait for table despite reservations."

  • "My husband and I were so thrilled by the chef's creations we barely noticed our surroundings. Extremely rustic and a little crowded feeling. Small dining room - however - if you are a bit of a cook yourself and appreciate a fabulous dinner, you'll forget about the surroundings. It is your typical Wisconsin super club with a very atypical menu! We had the filet mignon trio, to die for! The mushroom soup and Brussels sprouts ...yum yum yum..I'm hungry just thinking about it!"
