Diner Reviews
  • "Prime rib special was fabulous!! I had been to Jake's Seafood many times, and this was just as good."

  • "Three of us had fish and all three were perfectly prepared. In fact, I've never had better rock fish and I live in rock fish country. The fourth member of our party had the top sirloin and while it was cooked to the correct donenes, the meat quality was average. What was ironic was this was Jake's Grill and not Jake's seafood a block or two away. The service, of corse, was impeccable. Jake's is a tad spendy but well worth the premium when you want a superb dining experience."

  • "My meal was very bland, my wife said her's was "alright" we both agreed we wouldn't make it a point to return."

  • "Good as always. Always see the same, competent professional wait staff focused on customers. Friendly, upbeat place. A Portland gem."

  • "Simple and to the point. Great food, great beer, great wine all with a minimum of fuss and in a friendly casual atmosphere. Better than the average but not at all stuffy. Beautiful historic building and decor."

  • "I travel to Portland several times a year and have been to Jake's Grill several times. It isn't what it use to be since becoming a part of the Landry group of restaurants. It was OK, not that reasonable for the quality, but not memorable either. For the same amount of money spent, ($100./pp including tip and wine) you can do much better elsewhere in Portland."

  • "Everything was old, tired and boring. Go somewhere else."

  • "Jake's Grill has an exceptional variety of food selections, especially the seafood, much of which is wild caught and very fresh. The service is terrific, friendly and there when you need them!"

  • "We had our 25th anniversary dinner at Jake's Grill. The staff couldn't have been nicer. They reserved a window booth for us (as requested) and even made up personalized menus to honor our big day. The environment was charming and laid back and the food was pretty good. M husband really enjoyed his prime rib Sunday special. My sirloin was a bit tough and the peppercorn sauce was kind of harsh and not what I expected. But all in all it was a nice experience and I'd return. We went to Jake's for Christmas dinner and that's what brought us back. They make your visit a happy one."

  • "We have been coming to this restaurant for the last 15 years. Great for special occasions and even just a quick lunch. Service is excellent and the food is so delicious. Love the Fried calamari (the best in the NW) and all seafood entrees. Also, the company I work for go to Jake's for our Christmas party every year for a number of years."

  • "Thought the food was great. I had the rib eye and it was awesome. Was very pricey though. Wouldn't recommend going there all the time unless you have a deep wallet. Great for special occasions."

  • "Always consistent seafood quality and service. Great clam chowder. Friendly service and wide ranging wine list. Great place to eat before the theater."

  • "For the amount of food you get over priced-sourdough bread very hard could hardly even cut it with a steak knife, my jaws hurt after I was done."

  • "We have been here several times in the past and always had a good meal with good service. This was the first time we choose a seafood item. While all items on the Seafood Trio were good, most was a bit overcooked. The lone item that was cooked to near perfection was the salmon. The crab/shrimp cake had too much filler and was way overcooked. The shrimp were slightly overcooked. The service was excellent. The clam chowder and French onion soup were both excellent."

  • "Wanted a casual restaurant without the coat and tie requirements but great food and good wine list. The waiter was trained and knew how to wait a table which is a huge plus for this restaurant and a big requirement for me. The food (plate presentation well done) and wine outstanding!"

  • "Jake's Grill was delicious! The perfect setting for a family graduation dinner. Our family age range was 16 - 72 years. The menu and wait staff were ideal for our varied palates and preferences. Thanks Jake's!"

  • "We have been coming here the past few years to watch the parade and enjoy dinner. It has always been busy and we expect food to take longer, but this time was unbearable. It took 3 times for our server to stay long enough to take our order then she didn't even start until after passing out hard rolls. She never checked back in with us after and I had to ask another server to bring our check. If not for the company of our friends it was very unpleasant & we left right after eating. Next year we plan on finding a new parade viewing restaurant. "

  • "I met up with my entire family at Jake's last week for breakfast, and it was a perfect dining experience! I had the Chef's special with a mimosa and it was delicious. We enjoyed our before breakfast biscuits, and our server was right on top of the coffee refills."

  • "Just had dinner. Tried to use a Jake's $50/off cert we got awhile back. No exp date. Wouldn't take it. Said when Landry's bought Jake's from McCormick & Schmick's they quit honoring these certs that were given out. What a crock! Business must be hurting at Jake's. Not a question of the money. My wife and I dine out frequently, spending what we did here all the time. More a matter of principal. Landry's should honor certs and coupons out there in the world, regardless of when issued. Poor business! We will never visit a Landry's owned property. Sorry, that's just the way it is."

  • "Jake's Grill is a beautiful restaurant. Our waiter, Tony was spectacular. There were six of us and we were well taken care of. The food was good/average, the only entre that would get 4 stars is the mac n cheese (oh my!). Stroganoff, halibut, fish n chips were all average. The desserts were wonderful - we had the creme brulee, warm chocolate cake, berry crisp, and chocolate pot de creme. Make sure and save room. Wine list, beer list, and cocktails were great too."

  • "Jake's Grill was a great place to celebrate mine and my partner's 21st anniversary. The restaurant had a great vibe of both comfort and class. Our server was top-notch; very friendly and on top of her game. The food arrived in a timely manner, was exactly what we ordered and was delicious. Over all I had a great experience at Jake's Grill and will certainly return and will recommend it to friends who are looking for a romantic place for a quiet, romantic dinner or a venue for a larger group."

  • "We have been to Jake's Grill for the last 3 Mother's Days. It is always a busy place as we know that most moms love to be treated to a yummy brunch for their day. This year we cannot be positive about our experience. The service was poor to fair. Our waitress seemed short tempered whenever we asked for anything. The food was OK, but even that was not up to Jake's typical standards. After our trip to Jake's this year we will not be returning to celebrate Mom next year. "

  • "We got seated fast.hostess friendly . All I requested in open table not to be in the middle of room got seated by front door every time door opened could feel cold. Waiter good. Food good found hair in wife meal it was remade fast and taken off bill. Wife was so so about it as well as I "

  • "In the past when we have eaten there, there was an amazing dessert tray, this time no offer of that. There was no suggestion of mimosas or fresh squeezed orange juice, either. The crab cake benedict was delicious, but skimpy on the hollandaise. I was a bit disappointed. "

  • "I would have to say that the Mother's Day Brunch experience was a disappointment for our party of four. The waitress needed to be prompted several times to bring biscuits, jam, butter, coffee, to refill cups, refill water glasses, etc. She also had to enlist two other waiters to bring our order to us. While the breakfast was good but the portions were extremely skimpy. The prices for each entree were about $12-$14 each and were most definitely not worth it. All in all, small portions, poor service, and high prices (for what one actually got )all added up to disappointing experience and a poor value."

  • "Jake's Grill was recommended to us by many people we have encountered on our first visit to Portland. We had a delicious meal and they were very helpful with making my meal gluten free. Our server was wonderful! The only complaint is that we felt the prices were a bit high. "

  • "Overall the we where pleased with the atmosphere and the service from the bar. When it came to our dinner, the food was great as far as flavor and taste. The portions was small for the large price we paid. The service was "OK", thought it could have been a little faster and a little more knowledgeable when asked for special requests, from our party. Appetizer ordered was cold, drinks where high priced, once main course finally came out, was not pleased to see a pile of tomatoes and a steak only....would have been nice to have some kind of veggies or even a house salad served with the meal. "

  • "My husband and I thought we would check out Jake's Grill for dinner Saturday night. Our experience overall was good except we were disappointed in the table they gave us. It was a table for two at the end of a busy thoroughfare. We weren't expecting that since we made our reservation ahead of time using open table. Our server was great, we purchased a bottle of wine and she made sure our glasses were always full. That was only because she had to walk by us several times while we were sitting there. I would recommend Jakes, just beware of where they sets you in the restaurant."

  • "Jakes Grill is in a 100+ year old building. The bar fixtures could be original. The service is from another time: formal but friendly; attentive but efficient; timely but not rushed. The food is not haute cuisine but basic American fare, superbly prepared and well-presented. The fish is utterly fresh. I have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. The bar was delightful for an afternoon martini, and my bartender Shawn was a gem. He was both friendly and efficient. I was amazed by how hard he worked, serving all the patrons at the bar, taking orders from the waiters, and washing the glassware. Jake's Grill retains qualities from another time: it not only appears great, it delivers on its promise."
