Diner Reviews
  • "Our server was excellent! She has been our server in the past and we loved seeing her again. She poured about 8 cups of decaf, for me. All the food was absolutely delicious!"

  • "Made reservations for my parents 44th anniversary. They don't get out to a nice dinner very often as they are approaching their 80's and 90's. So it was VERY disappointing to pass several lovely booths and tables near windows to be placed in the farthest darkest(no windows) room in the restaurant. They joked to me about trying to find our way out..... I mean here are some elderly folks and the hostess walked them the greatest distance possible.... The food was delicious, the server superb-the menu with "44th anniv" was nice touch, but the seating was terrible."

  • "I make it a point to eat here every time I am in Portland, which is usually 2-3 times a year. Great food, great atmosphere, great location."

  • "First time at this Restaurant. I was anticipating a great place and I was not disappointed. Met a longtime friend for lunch, whom I'd not seen for 12-13 years. We had a wonderful lunch and mini-reunion. I had the cold Crawfish Platter and Don had a Seafood Salad. Both were delicious. The Bloody Mary's were excellent, along with the food, service and atmosphere. WHen I'm back in Portland next time, I shall return."

  • "Excellent menu, helpful professional wait staff, and great beverage list. Jakes is always lively; service is fast, friendly, and helpful."

  • "I selected Jake's for a first time visitor to Portland -- a true classic as I remember it to be. However, I have to say the food was really disappointing for us both. Perhaps the Portland dining scene has grown so creative that my seafood special, the crawfish, and our appetizers were just "okay"."

  • "Excellent food. Always eat here at least once when visiting Portland"

  • "My wife and I were in Portland recently and were told to try Jake's Famous Crawfish Restaurant. We went and were not disappointed. The food and services were impeccable. We both shared the house salad, the Halibut stuffed with shrimp, Crab, Cream Cheese and Brie also the Key Lime pie for dessert. All were superb!"

  • "I find the food to be somewhat heavy and expensive. Also, there's too much of it. I'd rather be served less food for which I pay less."

  • "Lots of great choices and great waitress, Courtney, made this a great place for dinner in Portland"

  • "Jake's is my favorite restaurant in Portland. Love it!"

  • "I needed an upscale place to feed a large party of visitors. We were served quickly and treated well. Even the friend who doesn't eat fish decided to try a fish entree, and loved it."

  • "A huge menu, difficult to choose! Service was top-notch and professional. Food quality was excellent, although I wouldn't think of this as a place to go for innovative or unusual dishes. Solid quality, generous portions."

  • "Where better than Jakes to spend on this day. Oysters, escargot, and a large Caesar salad. Yummy."

  • "This would be one of the best places in town to eat. I have been here a dozen times in two years and never unhappy. I always go home satisfied. Sometimes the servers are monotone and not too friendly but this last time our waiter was awesome and all over keeping us happy. Can never go wrong with anything on the menu. Crawfish Efu is the bomb huge stone pot of stew is the best I have ever had. Enough for two for sure."

  • "We lived in Portland area for 32 years until 2008. This was our first time back to Jake's in at least 10 years. How has it changed? Well, the prices are certainly much higher now. Jake's used to be locally owned. Now it's owned by Landry's, which has over 100 locations in U.S. and Canada. We split a crab meat cocktail even though it was nowhere near large enough to split. Very tasty though. The sourdough bread seemed slightly stale and not quite as good as it used to be. Formerly, it could give San Francisco sourdough a run for its money. We had salad Nicoise and rockfish special for lunch. Both were very tasty but not blow-you-away great. We'd go back but at those prices, not very often. Still may be best seafood in PDX."

  • "This restaurant has an extensive menu of fish dishes and a great wine list. We had the salmon stuffed with brie and crab meat and the horseradish crusted salmon, followed by the apple pie, and they were all delicious. Our server was terrific. We'll be back!"

  • "When I looked at the menu it seemed pricey, but unlike may fine resteraunts that I have been to, the food was not just delicious, you got what you paid for quntity wise. There are a lot of high end retaurants that think a morsel of their food is all you need to enjoy the experience. Those are the ones I never revisit. Jakes will be revisited!"

  • "We were seated at the worst table available despite having made a reservation..would understand if we had just walked in; the mood was totally ruined by being right at the entrance to the restrooms both because of the view and the number of people going past us to go to the restrooms. The crab/shrimp cake with jalapeno aioili...was good but couldn't taste the jalapeno. Salmon and halibut sauteed with mushrooms...delicious. Trout with butter sauce was tasteless. We had the mini deserts; bread pudding and the berry cobbler...both were nice enough. Our waiter was very efficient. But the total lack of ambiance where we were seated left us with no good feelings about this restaurant. It is hectic so don't go there for a romantic evening."

  • "The food was great and the server knew his stuff. First time there and he guided us through the menu even showing us how to eat our crawfish. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and plan on returning."

  • "Our server was the best I've ever had. She was very knowledgeable and made good recommendations. The food was delicious and prepared as we requested. I had the Caramel Walnut Apple Pie A La Mode. Never ever tasted anything so good. Only other observation is that the menu prices are on the high end. Still all in all I would good back, just with more money. lol"

  • "My husband was excited to take me here on my first visit to Portland. We made reservations two weeks before so we would be sure to get a table. The service and ambiance was wonderful. Our oysters were delicious, however our meals were so over priced. The waitress did not ask what size wine I would be getting and of course it was the higher priced amount. We will not return and would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "still a great place to take people from out of town, but on this particular night, I found service to lackluster at best. Our waiter Roy, was taciturn and laconic. There was a great deal of wait time between dishes, even though he often passed by our table. I don't mind paying for great food, but I want a great experience to go with it. Maybe I ask too much."

  • "The food was delicious. Fabulous dessert but were out of oysters. Service was not so attentive and lacked interest in menu."

  • "It's hard to please everyone in a group of 11, but Jake's managed to do just that with us. I had bouillabaisse like I always do and it did not disappoint. Others had salmon, halibut, and ling cod and were extremely happy with their choices. This is a must do when in Portland."

  • "After hearing about what a great experience Jake's offers, my gf and I couldn't resist on our trip to Portland. We split a small portion of crawfish to start which as about 4 or 5 each (10 total). The flavor of the tails and the compound butter was fantastic. We really enjoyed it. We do wish we had crackers for the claws, but since they're so small we were able to break in with a fork. She had the macadamia halibut and I had the parmesan sole. Both dishes were cooked beautifully and tasted wonderful. We had to skip dessert, but they bring it by on a tray to show you the options, which is kind of old school but a nice touch."

  • "We had a party of 7 and waited 15 minutes for our reserved table. Seated at a table that would have been better for 5, crowded and uncomfortable. Jake's service started slow and got progressively slower as the night went on. Water was not refilled, each course seemed to take a long time and, although the entrees were good, by the time they arrived it was too late to recover from the poor timing and service. There are better spots in Portland to entertain clients...try them and save yourself from disappointment here."

  • "Searched open table for a place to go and this was one of the recommended places by the hotel It did not disappoint. Long menu with wonderful options to choose from Had the stuffed halibut and it was outstanding Only negative and it is a small one was that after checking in the hostess desk the girl forgot about us. Went back 5 minutes after our seat time and they had us at a table immediately"

  • "I have been going to Jake's for years and had in fact been there two times in the last six weeks, but this time I had a different experience. Although we requested a booth, we were seated at a table in the dining room behind the bar. The chairs were small and uncomfortable, and it smelled bad. A party of four who were drinking way too much sat next to us, and on the other side there was a party of six with an infant seated at a table that probably would've been best for four. It was busy and noisy, but the food was still good. I'm sure I will go to Jake's again, but will request not to be seated in that dining room. Apparently it used to be the kitchen. It really smelled bad."

  • "We had a very nice meal. The mussel appetizer was excellent as was the clam chowder and house salad. We were allowed to taste a recommended pinot noir that we declined to order and the waitress brought us another that was perfect. I ordered the blackened coho salmon and it was also excellent. My wife ordered the crusted halibut and she thought it was slightly overdone but still tasty. Overall the food was delicious and the service was impeccable."

  • " I've been traveling to Portland for the last several years, for a summer respite from the Arizona heat. The previous trips I've had every intention of getting to Jake's. Finally made it. WOW. I will never visit Portland and leave without at least 1 meal at Jake's. The entire experience was Fantastic! Went to Happy hour , Lunch and dinner another night. All I can say is it is a must. Thanks, Jake's."

  • "We started our 10 day vacation at Jake's Famous Crawfish and we ended it there also. This was our second visit 10 days later and it was just as wonderful as the first time. This night we had Bobby as our waiter and he was not only knowledgeable about everything on the menu but he was fun to talk to about Oregon and sports. Two of us had salmon stuffed with crab and shrimp and it was the best we've ever had of this type of meal."

  • "If you are visiting Portland then Jake's Famous Crawfish is a must for dinner. I recommend making a reservation because it is a popular restaurant. The horseradish parmesan crusted steelhead was one of the best seafood dishes I have ever had and the service is excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Jake's has a good variety of food and deserts. Everything is quality and top of the line ingredients. We always order the crab sauté and it is amazing and delicious every time. Our waiter was great and I can't say we have ever had bad service at Jake's. Always and enjoyable evening."

  • "Jake's Famous Crawfish never disappoints. Always outstanding food and service. The stuffed Halibut was buttery, melt-in-your-mouth yummy. And who could pass up sharing the classic "chocolate paper bag" dessert?! Plus....we were able to use our Open Table reward dollars....great time!"

  • "The last time that I ate at Jake's was 13 years ago (I don't live in the area) and it was excellent then. I was a bit worried to go back since I noticed that it is owned by Landry's, which typically brings its restaurants to overpriced mediocrity. Well, Jake's was as good as I remember. The food was really wonderful and we had a great time. Highly recommended."
