Table not ready when we arrived. We were seated in a back room that was very quiet but lacked some of the ambiance of the main restaurant. Waitress was very knowledgeable about the food and wine. Food was good but very rich. Large portions.

We love Jake's: great seafood, good variety & usually on top of things. About 1/2 late getting in on our reservation; it was busy, but it was Sat night. Salad arrived with no dressing; prawn cocktail came with no lemon or petit fork. OK...that's fussy, I get it...but top end joints don't miss things like this & Jakes is top end. Just an off night, I guess.

The food was superb and the service was excellent. We had two different kinds of oysters on the half shell, petrale sole and sautéed Dungeness crab legs. Even the mini bread pudding was scrumptious. Our server was very knowledgeable as well as efficient. The only negative was having to wait 30 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation.

We were at Jake's for lunch to celebrate a birthday. Our server Courtney was so attentive, we were never in need of anything. Each member of our party selected a seafood entrée. The salmon, crab, shrimp and clams were all prepared perfectly. Everyone expressed that "their" lunch was amazing. Being a birthday, we ordered desserts to share. We indulged in key lime pie, berry cobbler and the famous Chocolate bag. We could not of asked for anything more.

Arrived thinking we were there for the Veteran Special Dinner only to find we were at the wrong restaurant. The waiter ask the manager who promptly came to our table, thanked my husband for his service and HONORED THE OTHER RESTAURANTS SPECIAL. A FREE DINNER OF HIS CHOICE!! Dinner was excellent, service wonderful! At the end of dinner again the manager and waiter thanked my husband for his service and gave him a FREE DINNER. We will be back and we will tell this wonderful story. Must admit it was very embarrassing but they handled it with great professionalism. Thank-you ever so much!

We like to try new places each time we visit Portland. This time we let my sister choose, as it was her birthday. What a great choice! The character of the building and decor gave it a welcoming vibe. The table preferred the prawn cocktail over the crab. Everyone agreed that the filet was outstanding. The Jake's Etouffee was spot on in flavor and texture. We will certainly return to try other dishes in the future.

And Jake's hasn't... yet. We realized it had been thirty years since we last visited this location. And it seemed like just last week. (Though we could afford a better meal and wine, now.) All the McCormick's do a decent job, I just hope the transition to new ownership doesn't hurt the brand and quality. Always great for local and fresh fish. The bar usually has our favorites. The hospitality of the staff is always first rate.

I really haven't bothered with Jakes for at least 15 years with so many excellent choices in PDX. But my boss was in town and mentioned Jakes, so I decided, this being annual review time, to give it another go. I was pleasantly surprised! The food was quite good, fresh and creative. Razor clams were spot on, and the steamed mussels were really plump and fresh. A good creative selection of local foods and beers and what looked like a decent if somewhat pricy wine list. The servers were sharp and playful, not the grizzly old towel-armed grumps of years past. The place was hopping on a Thursday night and the crowd, if not hip, at least were breathing and drinking and making some merry. I'll keep Jakes on my list for decent seafood in Portland.

Being a Bostonian living in the PNW, I find myself missing the New England flair for seafood on occasion. Having considered myself to be somewhat of a "foodie" for many years now, I am hard to please when it comes to freshly prepared seafood as in my eyes, no one does it better than New England. However, dining for the first time at Jake's was a very pleasant surprise. Not only was the restaurant's décor warm and inviting, but immediately upon entering, my wife and I were treated as if we were a long time, repeat guests. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was absolutely outstanding and well worth the price. I can say with satisfied palate that my thirst for high quality seafood has been quenched at long last.

My husband and I have been dining at Jake's Famous Crawfish for over 30 years. It is our favorite place for dinner when we visit Portland. We live in Boise, Idaho and do not have a comparable restaurant in our area. We love the fresh fish sheet. My husband loves the oysters and clams. We both had the salmon on our most recent visit and it was excellent. The wine selection is superb. We had the chocolate mousse in a bag and the banana crème pie for dessert and they were both amazing. We will always visit Jake's when we come to Portland.

And we know why. The history of the restaurant reveals that these people know what they're doing, and they've been at it for a while. The bar offers dining as well as drinks, and the staff seems comfortable, confident, and adept in providing a good start for an evening of excellent seafood dining (although they offer other meats as well). Our waiter was willing to explain in detail the ingredients of any dish on the menu. He also provided suggestions about wine choices to match our selections. The menu offers fresh daily fish catches and they are superbly prepared. The decor is a bit old-fashioned, but that lends an ambience of well-established successful patterns. If it works that well (and Jake's does), why change it?

For the price, we were all pretty disappointed with our food and the service. The halibut was overly salted and was not anything special. Our server also got my order incorrect because she did not clarify which salmon dish I was referring to (I didn't know there were two or I would have clarified myself). On top of that, she did not comp the incorrect meal or offer anything to fix the problem. Overall, we were disappointed and will not return or reccomend to anyone.

I had made a reservation for my friends and I at Jake's but upon arrival we decided to sit outside, which we were told did not need a reservation; you can simply sit at an available table and waitress will stop by. At 5:30 in the evening the restaurant wasn't packed and fairly quiet on the inside, but the outside was a little noisier. I ordered a caipirinha which was prepared very well. Most restaurants skimp on the cachaca or add too much sugar but the drink was well made. I had the Horseradish Crusted Oregon Salmon which was very good. The horseradish wasn't too overpowering so I could taste how fresh the salmon was. Highly recommend Jake's if you are in the area and looking for some great seafood!

The artichoke dip was fantastic - not too heavy, very flavorful. My wife's entree of scallops was fantastic, but my horseradish salmon was bland, which seems like it would be hard to do: make horseradish bland. Our mixed drinks were good, although they had to sweeten my a bit before it was right. The sides were the worst part of the night: green beans, potatoes, and rice, all of which were borderline school cafeteria-quality. The lava cake at the end was very good, and the service was very good, too. I'm not sorry I went, but I won't be back anytime soon, either.

Once again Jake's has excelled in all areas. We appreciate their attention to our requests for a table away from groups. When you split a salad they bring it to the table plated for two versus some places that plunk the salad down in the middle and expect you to divide. A nice touch. The chef's recommendations are always great. We had surf clams and the crab/shrimp cakes. Both prepared and presented well. Service was perfect. Attentive but not hovering.

I have eaten at Jakes more than any other restaurant in Portland over the last 10 years. After moving to Denver 3 years ago we were so excited to go to our seafood spot! Coincidentally we found out that 3 years ago Jakes was sold to the Landrys food chain. Unfortunately the appetizer portions were half (6 pof for over 12 dollars, very very small bowl of steamers for over 15). The prices had never changed over the years we've eaten there, but now expect to pay 15-100% more for any entree you know.
