Diner Reviews
  • "Took visiting friends to Jake's for oysters and seafood/fish at a historic Portland restaurant. As usual, food was excellent and nicely served, but pricey. Worth the visit nevertheless."

  • "We always enjoy dinner at Jakes. We don't visit often, maybe twice a year for special occasions, but we do enjoy the ambiance and the food. The seafood is always fresh and well prepared and the waiters are very professional."

  • "Jake's has excellent seafood. They know and understand the value of good service. Dinner Prices are moderately high but the lunch menu is an amazingly great deal. I love this restaurant and will return many times in the future. PS The drinks ROCK!"

  • "Fabulous shellfish and fish in a wonderful traditional setting with lots of interesting items on the walls."

  • "Lots of character in this restaurant...if you're looking for great food and a look into Portland's history, this would be a good place to start..."

  • "Jakes Crawfish is one of our favorites when we come to Portland. The food and service is second to none. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We've dined here several times and are looking forward to our next visit. As usual, the food and table service were excellent. This visit I enjoyed the étouffée. This is best version this cajun boy has tasted outside the Louisiana bayous."

  • "This restaurant was a bit of a disappointment. The quality of the food was not up to the price. We were visiting from out of town and opted to go a more traditional seafood restaurant for some guests. None of us were overly impressed. There are many excellent restaurants in Portland that are much better."
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "The fish and chips tasted like something my mother use to buy frozen and throw in the oven for a quick fix dinner. The fish sticks were very hard and dry. Also, the salmon was over cooked. However, I did like the clam chowder!"

  • "Stopped in wanting a nice meal out. Made a reservation while on the Trimet en-route. For a Saturday night, it was dead quiet. A few people inside, but the outdoor seating was full. Perhaps it's just a sign of economic times in Portland, but I felt it should have been busier. Regardless, we received excellent service and conversation from the staff, had a window table to people watch, and enjoyed a fantastic meal of seafood and steak. The rib-eye was delicious, the oysters a hit, and I'm in love with French onion soup again! My only regret is I was too full to partake of the excellent looking dessert menu."

  • "We frequent Jake's for special occasions and it never let's us down. The food is fabulous, the server is great, and the ambience of the restaurant is wonderful. During our last visit we enjoyed the crawfish appetizer, which was especially yummy. This place is one of our favorite places and I always recommend it to newbies to Portland."

  • "Once again visiting the Northwest finding Copper River salmon for the special entrée. Have not been disappointed yet. Grilled to perfection with warm lemon butter, asparagus and mashed potatoes. Texture of the fish melted in your mouth. Of course the crawfish appetizer was also tasty. The berries and mousse in the chocolate bag for dessert was very good. A very pleasing dining experience."

  • "The food was OK. The prices are high. If you drink Chardonnay, the wine list is very small. It was your average restaurant. No views, the food wasn't to die for, the check was though! We don't mind paying for a good meal."
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "In the past, we'd dined at Jake's only in the evening, not realizing that lunch was served. We tried a late lunch today, a wonderful experience. Both the swordfish and Copper River salmon were perfectly prepared, sufficiently cooked, but still very moist. Our only concern was our appetites, because we started with the very abundant calamari dish as a first course."

  • "Both seafood dishes were perfect as well as the service!"

  • "There may be a kazillion new restaurants in Portland, but I'll take Jake's every time. Great food. Outstanding service. You just can't beat it."

  • "We were there with out of town guests who wanted fish. Definitley not a place to go on a weekend evening. Our cold appetizers were brohght immediately, but the entrees took over an hour after we had finished the appetizers. At one point we asked our waiter how the fish were coming, and he cheerfully said "They're swimming upstream. They'll get here soon." Soon, perhaps, if you're a Galapagos toroise with a 200 year life span. And when the entrees arrived, the halibut was baked tasteless, the salmon was underdone, and the black cod was undermarinated--all signs of a kitchen unable to keep up with the huge weekend business. It was the first bad meal I'd had at Jakes in 20 years. Moral--don't go there when they are really busy."

  • "I was in town by myself for business. I hoped to find the coolest spot in town. I got a great upscale and local menu. The food and wine did not disappoint. Old world styling to the decor, waiters in white coats, and a freshly printed menu with only the best seafood. Loved the offering of crawfish and had the rockfish lafitte. Two glasses from the local vineyards was delicious. I will be back one day. Don't miss the mini desserts which was just enough. Fresh berry cobbler...mmmm."

  • "Jake's Famous Crawfish Restaurant was recommended to us by friends who have dined there many times. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about the restaurant from the friendly service to the excellent food. We would definitely go back next time we are in Portland."

  • "Service was amazing. Very good information given from waiters. We found this place one night while looking for a good seafood restaurant. Went back the next evening to eat again. Got a different waiter, but everything was the same. Waiter was awesome, food was unbelievable."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Our waitress was very pushy. The popcorn crawfish had a heavy batter on it so you couldn't tell what you were eating. The oysters were OK. The trout was OK although heavily salted. Overall very mediocre."

  • "My wife and I enjoy seafood. She finds it hard to pass up Scallops and I enjoy Salmon. We started with Oysters on the half shell (they were excellent). My wife had Scallops and I had the Crab & Shrimp Stuffed Salmon (also excellent). We finished with Triple Berry Cobbler. It was a relaxing and enjoyable experience."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by friends who live in Portland as an icon to the city so we were a little leery about it being too touristy. Nothing could be further from the truth. Everything was excellent. We were meeting friends so took advantage of the bar while we waited for them. One of our party, who is an avid tea drinker from England, ordered a cup of tea from the bar and said it was the best cup of tea that she has ever had in a a restaurant! There were no veggies listed with the menu and I was surprised with awesome asparagus! Would highly recommend this wonderful place."

  • "Extensive variety of fresh seafood, prepared very well and served by experienced wait staff who are able to give advice. Our meal was superb from start to finish."

  • "Our server Kelly was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and the food was terrific. We were celebrating a graduation, birthday, and father's day, and it was splendid!"

  • " Great food as always. I appreciate options for vegetarians. My pasta dish with veggies was really good and I was bummed that I did not get my leftovers back from the server--I hoped to have them for lunch."

  • "Fantastic food, great server in spite of her slow speed and forgetting our bread several times. Didn't even care since she was so well versed with the menu, and warm. Father's Day dinner and dessert was a lovely experience here!"

  • "It's funny here in Portland with its restaurant buzz - what's cool, what's hip, what's new etc. the latest and greatest. And after all these years here still sits Jake's - a true Portland institution that always delivers great food, great service and more importantly a memorable evening. My wife and I were talking about how, in our opinion, Jake's has really become underrated - people I think have a tendency to forget just how great this place is. Again, it's not new, not particularly hip etc. but it remains a place where you will never be disappointed and you will walk out saying "you know, that was a really great meal and a really great evening". Don't forget Jakes, Portland - it delivers every single time."

  • "We enjoyed our Father's Day dinner with excellent seafood. There were so many choices! The kid's menu was perfect to give our boys what they wanted to eat and to keep them entertained. The dessert tray was over the top!"

  • "Our third trip to Jake's Crawfish. No disappointments. Love the ambiance. Food is addictive. Makes you feel like you've "been out to dinner.""

  • "We like to dine at Jake's a few times a year. Most recent visit we requested a booth in a quiet area as we were entertaining a guest that has a hearing problem. Our request was not met as we we given a table in a noisey area of the restaurant and it made for difficult communications. We entertain this guest two or three times a year and in the future will take them to alternative dining spots."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "This is one of our favorite places. The food and service are always top of the line. On this visit, we enjoyed razor clams and halibut cheeks. We were not disappointed."

  • " Great oysters. The mains were a bit heavy on the breading. A classic setting for a fish house but order the fish broiled."
