A word from Jake and Telly's Greek Taverna
In 1997, brothers Telly and Jake Topakas moved to Colorado from Philadelphia and opened Jake and Telly’s Greek Taverna, then simply known as Jake and Telly's Bar and Grill. Though at the time the brothers were relatively young, they were third generation restaurateurs and had gathered much second hand experience and knowledge from their father, uncle, and grandfather about the restaurant business.

They soon noticed that many of their customers were enjoying the Greek specials they were offering over the standard American-style menu items and thus began the transition from a bar and grill to the only full-service Greek restaurant in Colorado Springs.

A few years into the business, Telly and Jake became interested in carrying a better variety of Greek wines and began educating themselves about wine and food pairings in general.

Diner Reviews
  • "We went there 2 years ago when old Colorado City was full of smoke from the Waldo Canyon fire and outdoor dining was not an option. We dined there this Saturday evening and we were fortunate to snag an outdoor table. It was a beautiful night and inside was quite noisy. The food was excellent and there was more than enough for two people. Service was good but not great. Had to wait a bit longer than I wanted to order drinks and when we were finished the waiter offered us an "on the house" shot of Ouzo which I feel is a great way to end a good Greek meal. Unfortunately we waited 10 minutes before we saw the waiter and he looked at us and said "whoops". And brought me two shots!"

  • "The food was amazing! We have been fortunate enough to visit Greece and of course enjoy the food. Jake and Telly's was magnificent! I can't wait to go back."

  • "The food is great, but nothing is less than $19. I had the lamb ribs, very good, highly recommend."

  • "So excited to go to this restaurant as it sounded wonderful and we like Greek food so much, but even though the food was ok that was the problem, no "WOW" factor, I can get much better Greek food at other restaurants and it was so overpriced. To bad as it is a really nice place."

  • "We LOVE Jake & Telly's! Having lived in Greece for two years, we are rather picky about Greek cuisine, and Jake & Telly's is very authentic! Everything from the food, wine, music, atmosphere and especially the friendly service, will impress you! OPA!"

  • "If you're in Old Colorado City, Jake and Telly's is a must! Amazing food, the service is always great, and it's a cute place. "

  • "The food was pretty good, a bit less than we expected. The staff were very courteous and nice, the service was slow. Large open room, quite noisy. Still, for a neighborhood venue & a moderate meal we will consider returning."

  • "I've eaten at Jake and Telly's several times and have always had a great experience this time was no exception. Service was prompt and attentive. The food is worth the cost. There is a nice selection of wine and servers are good about helping those of us who are vino-challenged."

  • "We went to Jake & Telly's hoping it would be the same as (or close to) the Greek restaurant we use to go to on Fort Lauderdale beach. However, we were disappointed in the menu and the food. Not very Greek! Typically a Gyros Platter comes with thin sliced lamb meat, a Greek salad, pita bread, humus, etc.. Jake & Tellys comes with pita bread, very thick cut lamb (not sliced for Gyros so was confused why it was called Gyros platter), some kind of vegetable and potatoes?!?! Also, the pricing didn't equal the quality of food. Besides falling short on the authenticity of the food, it was also very salty. With that said, The service was excellent and staff were very kind and the ambiance was nice as well. Suggest the menu be given and overhaul."

  • "Visited Jake and Telly's for my fiancee's birthday and boy did they wow us. Gave us a great table over looking the main street, greeted us with complimentary shots of ouzo (which continued throughout the meal), and offered us one of the most delicious baklava desserts I've had. Our waiter, Sterling, was fantastic. He was on point, charming, and made great recommendations on beer, wine, and entrees. The vegetarian platter was delicious (and huge!) and the lamb ribs were fantastic. I appreciated the efforts the restaurant staff went through to make sure this was a special night, which it was."

  • "The food here is always great, the service is good, and the atmosphere is authentic Greek. My husband love, love, loves coming here. It is a little pricey, so we don't go often, but when we do, it is always memorable."

  • "It has been a 12 year tradition of mine when I drive up from New Mexico to Colorado Springs to head directly to J&T's. Its like a second family. Hope to have ate least 12 more years of this tradition"

  • "Jake & Telly's is one of our favorite restaurants in Colorado Springs! We used to live in Greece and the food here is very authentic and delicious! The staff makes you feel like family the minute you walk through the front door. We have been frequent customers for years!"

  • "The food and service were superb and atmosphere quite nice. The prices are a bit high, however, so I am not as inclined to go as often as I would like, and the music is a bit loud since all surfaces in the restaurant are very hard. Otherwise, though, this is a perfect place to go when you want authentic Greek food."

  • "The food was incredible. Pita bread for starters, with wine. Calamari appetizer was fantastic. The oven-roasted lamb was amazing. I wasn't very experienced with lamb, but I must say I'm a convert. Absolutely amazing."

  • "My friend and I were celebrating both of our birthdays. The lamb shank with orzo was not on the lunch menu, but we ordered it - our fave. Our waiter was helpful and knowledgable, and recommended the perfect Greek red wine for the meal. The "flaming cheese" appetizer was excellent, as usual. Our choice of desserts was decorated with birthday candles; a nice touch. We would recommend it for groups, lunch, or dinner. OPA!"

  • "Not mind blowing, but across the board I enjoy everything about Jake and Telly's. Lamb chops might have been just a bit rare, appetizers were great, and the wine was top notch. The service was prompt and friendly, thorough and professional. Give it a shot. You won't be disappointed."

  • "As usual we had a wonderful evening at Jake and Telly's. The food was fantastic. The service was quite good, and the managers/owners there table touch better than any other restaurant I have been to in Colorado Springs. My spouse is a very picky eater, so finding a place that he will enjoy is not easy, so we keep coming back to Jake and Telly's."

  • "Ordered the gyro platter and the meat was burnt and it was served atop potatoes and cabbage. Gyro meat should be shavings of lamb/beef and not patties of meat. Potatoes and cabbage is more of a German cuisine not Greek. Platter is served without a pita so you are left to cut and eat the gyro meat as you would a steak. The appetizer pita was served with a basalmic vinegar vs. hummus-a true disappointment as oil and bread is an Italian cuisine classic. The dinner was overpriced at $17 a plate and didn't come with salad/rice or anything to warrant the price. The place was nice and situated in old Colorado City."

  • "Jake and Telly's is one of those fantastic restaurants with a menu that never leaves the customer searching for better options. Everything looks fantastic, and it is guaranteed that it will taste sublime. I cannot imagine ordering anything that does not take the tastebuds on a cultural adventure. In addition to the outstanding cuisine, the staff and atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and inviting."

  • "We had a nice evening at J&T's the other night; we went at the request of our daughter who was returning to school. She had the best meal --- lamb skewers -- and I enjoyed the stuffed gyros. The only mildly off note was my wife's pasta dish with shrimp, which included only 3 shrimp (a bit skimpy for the price). The service, as always, was excellent."

  • "We had reservations at a Manitou Restaurant, but decided to move it up to Monday since cold front was moving in. The place in Manitou did not serve dinner on Mondays, so we looked for a Vegan-friendly alternative. Fortunately for us, Jake & Telly's could accommodate our group of 10! Everything was set up for us when we arrived. The wait staff was so friendly and helpful with our questions about the menu and wine list - they were very attentive without being intrusive. Our food was at the same time and everyone raved about their choices. Many in our group had not tried Greek food before, but they were thrilled - many said Jake & Telly's would be added to their list of restaurants to visit! Thank you for such a great evening!"

  • "Jake and Telly's was most unexpected. We had heard good things but we happened to stop in one night during a local festival and we were ready for for food and drink. The wine list was exceptional and the menu was outstanding! I wasn't to sure what to expect with Greek food but everything we ordered was excellent! To top it off we ordered coffee and dessert. Their Quadruple Chocolate torte was to die for. We can't wait to go back to Jake and Telly's!"

  • "we had a great time! the service was genuinely friendly and they were a lot of fun. we felt very welcome...like family. the food was soooo yummy and it all came out in perfect timing, no overlap of appetizers with meal. We chose to not go to a couple other places due to their obnoxiously loud NOISE LEVEL. it seems like some restaurants are trying to be night clubs these days...uuugh. We talked and laughed the whole time...even with the people who worked there...it was great! The food was priced fair and no one left empty bellied! We had such a great time and will definitely go again! Thank you so much for staying on the west side and giving us somewhere to brag about!!! Thanks guys!!!"

  • "Had dinner at Jake and Telly's on 16 Nov 2013. The food was good, but the overall service poor. We were never ask if we wanted refill's on drinks, or if we wanted dessert. We had to ask for both from you wait staff. I have never been to a restaurant, and been given my bill before dessert arrived. We felt rushed by our waitress to hurry and finish and leave. I suggest more customer service training for you wait staff. To most its a treat to go out to dinner. I will not recommend Jake and Telly's to anybody."

  • "If you had never eaten in Greece or at a traditional Greek home, you might think this is good. I thought it was very poor. When I complained about how dry the moussaka was, there was no offer to compensate. I would not have accepted it, as that is not why I complain at a restaurant, but only so that they might improve and I could go back and enjoy it."

  • "Such a fun dining experience! I went here with a few of my gal friends. The service was great! The waiter was open to questions and gave his suggestions on wine and food. The owner/manager went around to all the tables to make sure everything was up to par. Food was delicious! The prices are a bit pricey to my budget. For an entree and drink plan on spend probably $20 per person. Although they have the option of soup/salad if you do not have an appetite for a full entree. The stuffed gyros was fabulous! Kind of a smaller portion but if u have a small salad on the side I think it would be a balanced meal. The ambience was wonderful! Dimmed lights, colorful decorations, and music to set off the Greek experience !!"

  • "Absolutely the best food! The Hummus appetizer was great and plenty for four people. The server suggested a fabulous Greek wine. The Monk Fish in brown butter was delish...and the chocolate, pumpkin, salted caramel parfait was scrumptious! As always the cheers of Opa from the patrons at the bar gave the evening a fun and joyous vibe! Jake and Telly's never dissapoints!"
