A word from Jacob Wirth
We are the 2nd oldest restaurant in Boston and the longest consecutively running tradition in the city. The original round mahogany tables and bar have welcomed one and all both young and old for over 142 years. Share a meal and moment in history where the people who built Boston did. Where Larry Bird came after walking off the court his last night of being a Boston Celtic. Most recently where Hollywood has found inspiration featuring Jacob Wirth in "Knight and Day" and "The Company Man." Where Boston"s Big Dig was drawn on napkin... Hey when you're 130 years old see if you get everything right!
We strive for great service here but sometimes things do not always go as planned. Both good and bad we would like to hear your experience and feedback. These comments can be sent to mfitzgerald@jacobwirth.com Thank you in advance!

Overall, enjoyed the experience. The food was good albeit quite greasy. It was a great setting for a group other than the noise-level (HIGH). Our favorite part was definitely the beer selection and the sing-a-long on Saturday night. I would go back, but not for the food.

We stopped in on a Tuesday night before a show at the Colonial Theater. I'm glad I made reservations as it got pretty crowded. I tried a couple of beers I've never had, and had a nice "mixed grill" dinner. The meal was two different sausages, sauerkraut, cabbage and potatoes. It was outstanding.

This establishment that has been over 100 years is business is a poor excuse for German food. The waiter was from El Salvador and the sausages caused me indigestion all night long. Wander how they managed to satay in business for that long?

We frequent Jacob Wirth's in large part because of the energetic environment and beer selection. Our table service was slow despite the lack of a huge crowd, but this was unusual so we will be back.

Beer selection is amazing, over 40 beers on draft. My parties food was amazing, I got the Wiener Schnitzel and while I enjoyed it I have to say it wasn't prepared in the true German/Austrian fashion (tenderized and butterflied down the middle). Get the potato pancake!

Jager & Schnitzel for dinner, I'm in love! Schnitzel was so so good! Jager was chilled in their official Jager dispenser! Caught the Summer Draft Special for $2.50 for a pint of delicious Wachusett Strawberry Ale. Chairs weren't the most comfortable but makes for a more ol' timey feel to the restaurant. There was Piano Karaoke that was starting up but unfortunately we were just leaving as it was being set up. Server was attentive and happy. I would definitely come back!

This is a long established German place in theatre district, which I guess is how they survive. The beer selection is impressive and usually that is all we have. Made the mistake of eating there... Very poor quality food. I guess they get away with it because of all the tourists.

Limited selection of beer on tap, best ones are only offered in bottle, but each ONE is $20!!! Yes, you read that right one bottle of beer for $20. Crazy! Also, the food was somewhat bland, and limited German selections, most of the menu was just basic American bar food.

As much as I wanted to love Jacob Wirth's, it fell short. The beer was good and so was the music, but the Weiner and Jaeger Schnitzels were tough, much thicker than I've ever had them and quite bland. My two German friends in tow were charmed by the ambiance but did not enjoy the food.

I took clients here during a business meeting. We're both from the Midwest. I had been here before and remembered it as being a fun spot. The entree portions are huge. The small plate version of sauerbraten would've been perfect. The main attraction was Mel and his sing-a-long piano books. It was fun watching large groups of young people get up and belt out songs while you couldn't resist but to join in.

Our first time there, on a Monday night at 7pm really wish we weren't stuck with a server that started two days ago serving us could barely speak English and could not make beer suggestions, food was good just wish we had a more knowledgeable staff that would of made it a millions times better I would only go back with a group of people not as a couple. Might of been better to come on a night with the sing along piano man

The food is great, the ambiance is very old-world-Europe meets kitschy German beer hall. Even the cornbread they serve at the onset of the meal is homemade, and served with fresh butter. Great find, good classic German fare, and awesome beer selection. Go for the Hefeweizen and grilled smoked bratwurst with Jager-infused German potato salad and red cabbage - you won't be sorry! It all comes on a pretzel bun!

We were in Boston for a show at the Opera House and we had made reservations. Germany wound up making it to the Quarter Finals in the World Cup and they still honored our reservation, did not hold us to the minimum table requirement, and accommodated us in every way despite the "frenzy" of the event. It was a fun place with EXCELLENT food - best cornbread I've ever had and the "award-winning" clam chowder certainly was! Our server was a little slow - we waited quite a long time to get our bill - but overall we had a really fun time and got to experience the fun of an energetic soccer crowd! I will definitely go back if I get a chance!

Jake's Grill, Sauerbraten, spaetzle, potato salad, red cabbage, potato pancakes delicious. Food Allergy friendly for one of the members of our party for years, another reason why it is a favorite spot of ours! This time we stopped by Jake's on the way to the Boston Opera House to see the magnificent show Phantom of the Opera. Loved the food...german chef in family and miss his entrees...this has similar. The jaegar schnitzel was superb. Red cabbage! So many of the beers we saw only in Germany...like a wine list. The beers are like wines so diverse. Oompa band was added bonus...a little older but great guys. Like Germany can be noisy, and has the ambience of the very old restauant, building that is is. A step back in time. Wish we had more of this in Boston. Service great, friendly. 25cent hot dog day sounds interesting.

The food was great, but there was way too much noise for my taste in a restaurant. Our server was very helpful and understanding in terms of helping us get as far away as possible from the distracting noise. The sauerbraten was great as was the corn bread. I'd eat there again at a quieter time.

Jacob Wirth's is a fun and enjoyable restaurant. Beer choices are terrific. The food ran from pretty good ( jaegerschnitzle) to very good ( salmon with pretzel crumbs) to great (whoopie pie dessert and sauerkraut/sausage balls appetizer). I would gladly return to explore more of the menu. Large noisy room was fun and fit our mood. Fine for kids. Would skip for romantic dinner.

Our waiter took our order, brought us our food, and that was it. He walked by several times as I had an empty glass and never asked if I wanted a refill. I had to flag him down just to get our check. He was not friendly at all. It was very off putting. The food was good. The menu had lots of options and came out fairly quickly. The atmosphere seemed like it would be a great place to dine. You only get one chance to make a first impression; especially with us being from out of town. Hopefully, you'll get a friendly waiter and enjoy the experience more than we did.

JW has been a relatively regular spot for me to hang out since I moved here a few years back. Chose it to celebrate a momentous occasion recently and they didn't let me down. Great food for a Friday lunch, service was good but since they were a little understaffed our waitress was a little in over her head for a large group. Still worthy of a 20% tip though. Their beer selection is EPIC and it's fun enough inside to make you feel like your actually celebrating.
