A word from Jacob Wirth
We are the 2nd oldest restaurant in Boston and the longest consecutively running tradition in the city. The original round mahogany tables and bar have welcomed one and all both young and old for over 142 years. Share a meal and moment in history where the people who built Boston did. Where Larry Bird came after walking off the court his last night of being a Boston Celtic. Most recently where Hollywood has found inspiration featuring Jacob Wirth in "Knight and Day" and "The Company Man." Where Boston"s Big Dig was drawn on napkin... Hey when you're 130 years old see if you get everything right!
We strive for great service here but sometimes things do not always go as planned. Both good and bad we would like to hear your experience and feedback. These comments can be sent to mfitzgerald@jacobwirth.com Thank you in advance!

    Great unique restaurant in the heart of the Theater District. Don't be deceived by the crowd at the bar, there's plenty of floor space in the back to suit larger groups. The food was delicious, the beer selection superb, and the waiter was great. I can't complain. Would definitely stop in again on my way to a show at the Citi or Wilbur!

    For each of the last several shows I have taken nieces and nephews to we have had lunch at Jacob Wirth. Each time we have had excellent service, great food and the kids are made to feel welcome. Very convenient and accommodated out 8 person party with an easy reservation and fun tasty meal. Loved the tater tots special!

    This is a historic, authentic, neighborhood hot spot for people looking to have fun and eat good food. We took the Trolley tour and this restaurant was recommended. I would describe the environment as casual, boisterous, noisy, and fun We got there after 9:00pm and there was live music provided. The music made it difficult to talk and understand each other. The beer selection is amazing and the food is very good. Service is average.

    The food was good, but the beer is right on point. And, the added touch of the piano that your group can sing along with made it a fun atmosphere! I will definitely return again. Even if it is just to stop by the bar for the Schofferhofer grapefruit beer!

    Accepting reservations makes this place seem "fancy" but it is delightfully the opposite -- certainly unique and a notch above standard Irish pubs. This place feels like a true German beer hall or "hofbrauhaus." They have a huge menu with american & german food -- burgers, fish & chips, salads, fried chicken sandwiches, nachos -- and then bratwurst, sauerkraut, weiner schnitzel, red cabbage & pretzels. There's something for everyone! The atmosphere is bright & lively, with a mix of quiet older couples, bearded hipsters, and businessmen in suits. It must get real rowdy in there during televised sports events! A fun, casual & unique place with good pub food and german dishes!

    I would go back here in a heartbeat but there are two things I would have done differently. First would be to not sit as close to the live entertainment. It made it difficult for my boyfriend and I to have conversation so we started using our phones to talk when we were across from each other. If the hostess is taking you to a table in front of the brass quartet I would ask if you could move. Second we wouldn't have done two beer tours before coming to this restaurant. The food was amazing but we agreed to come back when we have more of an appetite. Beer selection was amazing!

    This was a terrific place to have a glimpse into a building and restaurant rich with Boston History. The German food seems to this amateur foodie to be reasonably authentic and tasty. The apple strudel is certainly a dessert to leave room for at the end of a meal. Beer selections on tap were plentiful and local breweries were represented well. This place is crowded and loud. What you would expect for a wildly popular destination restaurant/bar in the middle of the theater district. It is charming and fun. Service was reasonable considering the sea of people the service staff has to wade through! Make reservations plenty ahead of time to allow yourself to have a chance to experience this part of Boston history!

    My husband and I have been going to Jake Wirth's for years. Great old bar with German food and sooo many beers. But disappointed to see they are now serving beer in plastic cups instead of glasses. Food was pretty good, although the veal was kind of tough. Still, Jake Wirth is a Boston gem, with its dark wood, old clock outside and German beer hall ambience.

    Food was dry. Dishwasher was not working, so the beverages were served in plastic cups that kind of defeats the purpose of a great tasting beer. Our company was great, so most was overlooked but I don't think I would recommend because of the dry food. It was just so - so compared to years past.;

    Jacob Wirth has very good German (and other) food and lots of good beer. They have large tables that are good for groups. Note that service, ambiance, etc are very basic. Serving beer in plastic cups seemed particularly low-class. It's also very noisy. But, if you are prepared for what you'll get, it can be a lot of fun.

    No German music playing at all - can't you at least have a CD playing? No pork option on the schnitzels - just veal. Even in Germany all restaurants offer pork schnitzels. Service painfully slow. Got our drinks after 30 minutes - then left. Wasn't worth our time to be there. Amazing that Boston doesn't have a decent German restaurant.

    I had been to Jacob Wirth on other occasions for the sing-along and I was looking forward to going to their polka music night for a family celebration. The food was good, ambiance was great but our waiter rushed us right out of the restaurant. I had made reservations at a specific time in order to be able to stay for the music and I felt like we weren't welcome. He even told us how stressed out the front of the house was and how he didn't want to "anger" (but with stronger language) a hostess by letting us consolidate to one table. I wish I could have dealt with the woman I spoke with on the phone when making my reservation. She was lovely and informative!

    It was a vibrant place and folks were definitely enjoying themselves. We thought it would be a different type of restaurant. We expected a quieter restaurant with more ethnic German foods besides brats and beer. Our waiter was very good and we were taken care of well. Our seat was so crowded we had to sit on the same side of the table, which worked out well, as we could talk without yelling across the table. I still would recommend this restaurant for a good time, but not if you want a quieter place with more German food choices.

    This was our first time and we enjoyed the experience. The food was very good and the only disappointment was that they did not offer the cocktails listed on the website. I had been hoping to try the adult root beer float and was informed by the server that they did not have that. However, the rest of my party enjoyed choosing from what they called a "complicated" beer selection. We had made reservations but arrived earlier and were seated immediately. It was a bit pricey but well worth the visit.

    I ordered a pumpkin martini which they didn't have despite it being on the menu on line. Waitress said our website has not been updated in a while. My friend got a cobb salad which was so dry she had to ask for extra dressing, but the vegetables were good and fresh. I ordered a Grilled Ruben. The sandwich came warm, the bread was toasted and it was falling apart because it was so dry. The meat was good however, tender. The onion rings were warm as well and frozen with no flavor at all. I had about 3 of them and half the sandwich. I have had Grilled Ruben's in lots of places and this was the worst one I have ever had. Manager came over and spoke with us so the customer service was excellent however I will never return.

Unfortunately the table for 10 people was way too big and we could barley talk to each other across the table, it was really loud in the restaurant. Anyways, the piano player was amazing!!! The Wiener schnitzel was yummy and the pretzel bread pudding was to die for! They have a great selection of beer, you can order 4 different kinds in small portions to taste, pretty cool.

    The list of beers on tap is impressive. Serving German beer in a Brooklyn Brewery stein is odd. This restaurant can't really decide whether it is a German restaurant or not. The wienerschnitzel was twice as thick and one-third the size it would be in Germany. The coating is twice as thick, too. The veal had not been pounded (to tenderize it) before breading it. It should have been served with 2 - 3 slices of lemon. German asparagus is white, not green. The cucumber salad tasted like thinly slicied bread and butter pickles. The bread on the table was not pretzle-like -- it was cornbread. Why deliberately make things differently than the way that Germans do? Isn't authenticity the point of an ethnic restaurant.
