Diner Reviews
  • "Have been coming here for years. Always great service and food. I recommend Jacks to everyone."

  • "Jack's menu holds many imaginative and flavorful items and should please many palates. I especially like their soups, their pork plate and their interesting side dishes. This is not a place to go to on the cheap. Two of us have never dined for under $100, but it's worth the expense. Staff has always been gracious and attentive."

  • "My cousin and I was impressed with our recent dining experience. The crab cakes appetizer are some of the BEST in the city. I highly recommend. Our server, Michael, was attentive and extremely pleasant. Go see him and Jack's!"

  • "Our cab driver took us to the wrong place making us a half hour late for our reservation. The staff at Jacks understood and sat us right down and had us served without delay so we could make our show on time. Food and wine was wonderful and the server was great. Thank you for saving our evening. Would definitely return."

  • "This was our first at Jack's. We put this restaurant at the top of our go to places for great food and martinis. Great menu. The grilled calamari, beef tenderloin and scallops were delicious. Atmosphere relaxed and fun. Our waiter was friendly and service was outstanding. Jack's is a restaurant everyone must go to for great tasting food and memorable times!"

  • "We had tickets to a play and they were wonderful at getting us out of there on time. Our server was professional, helpful and fun to work with. His recommendations were perfect! The food was excellent and we left just as the Briar Street crowd with lots of children arrived to eat. The staff handled the crowd with ease and made everyone's dining experience pleasant. We will definitely eat here when we are in this neighborhood!"

  • "I am so happy we tried Jack's on Halsted for dinner -- we were pleased with the variety of offerings on the menu (to-die for butternut squash ravioli with sage and brown butter; grilled calamari instead of the mundane fried variety; delicious carne asada as a main course was so tasty, and the fresh fish dishes were terrific) Waitstaff is knowledgeable and attentive, and honest in their recommendations. We will be back as soon as we can!"

  • "Jack's on halsted has become one of my fav brunch restaurants. I love their egg benedict, and how brunch plates come with little bit of fruit. The service is really nice, waiters always so kind."

  • "In our first experience, we were warmly greeted by our waiter. The food was fantastic - great presentation & taste. The drinks, Six Feet Under martini for me and a Tom Collins for my husband were fabulous. As a matter of fact, my husband thought that the Tom Collins was the best he had ever had. Our second visit there this past Saturday, our waiter was less than enthusiastic in his greeting - just asked us if we wanted any drinks. No welcome...very bland. The food, steak filet for me, was tough, the asparagus was tiny, and the garlic mashed potatoes was like thick soup. What happened in the one month since our last visit? We all enjoyed the drinks & - but that was about all."

  • "Dined here (again) and as always, it was delicious. This is probably my favorites restaurant on the north side and Drew maintains a high level of quality and service. The waitstaff is outstanding. I LOVE Jack's."

  • "Very classy white tablecloth place. We went there with another couple to celebrate an anniversary after seeing Blueman group. I had the Seabass and it was a little overcooked and burnt on the bottom. But tasted very good. The salads are huge and delicious. The crabcakes were very good. Their bread pudding was to die for! We are from the suburbs and this place was a bit pricier than we are used to, but it was worth it for an extra special occasion. Service from Jeremy and his coworkers was great."

  • "We live about 2 blocks away from Jack's and have walked/driven by it many times. A couple of friends told us they go there regularly and think it is great. So we went. We both had a really nice meal. The whole experience was nice. Our waiter, Michael, was the best waiter we have had in a while. Attentive, without being overbearing. He did something one rarely see;s these days. I asked about two dishes that were about $2 apart in price, and he recommended the less expensive one. We will go back."

  • "Made reservation on Sunday 3-17, probably the most busiest of days for brunch. Had the most wonderful experience. The owner James was amazing! He could not have made us feel more welcome or happier that we felt not only in the arrival, but the scenic view, fabulous table setting, warm and inviting and the food was incredible. It was a brunch menu with everything on the menu you can find something for everyone. Eggs Benedict, omelets, potatoes and desserts were amazing. They had an extensive drink menu, owner offered suggestions, and adorned our desert plates artistically, perfect for that special occasion. Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed. Traveled over two hours from out of area just to experience this place."

  • "I live in the Lakeview area. I love Jack's. The food is always good. The wait staff is "on it". The ambiance is great. You can carry on a conversation with no problem with the noise level."

  • "Gem in the heart of Lakeview. Loved the atmosphere. The staff was friendly and attentive without being pushy. The timing of courses was perfect for us. I went in with an open mind and experienced some new flavors. I have never been a big fan of duck, but the duck confit risotto was out of this world! Extensive wine and cocktail list was perfect for our group of 4. We loved it so much we went back after the show for a nightcap. We will definitely go back."

  • "Jack's food and service are always excellent. They have a reasonably priced wine list. The 3-course fixed price is a great deal! Very highly recommended in a sea of mediocre Lakeview restaurants."

  • "Since I had gone to Jack's. It was still really good. They had changed the lay-out of the place; they included a bar area. But overall it is still a very solid neighborhood place for dining!"

  • "For my (65th) birthday my wife planned a sirprse date starting at the Brian Theater (Blue Man Group) and finishing off up the street at Jack's. As Naperville residents, neither of us had been their prior, and we will be back. What a gem, from the white table cloths to the incredible attentive wait staff, in jeans and pressed shirts, to the really wonderful meal. For us it was a truly wonderful early evening. Feel comfortable to come 'comfortable' as this is a relaxed environment. Again - cannot praise the food nor staff enough. Thank you all."

  • "We arrived early for our reservation, but was seated at the bar. Here we had our pre dinner cocktail as we looked over the menu. Excellent wait staff once we were brought to our table. We were well taken care of. Food arrived promptly and hot. Seasoned perfectly and plenty of it! We would not hesitate to return here!"

  • "We visited Jack's on Halsted after seeing Blue Man Group right down the street. We had reservations and were seated right away - even asked if we preferred a specific table. We chose a table by the window. Our server was attentive and helpful. The food was excellent. We had a charcuterie plate that was on special that night. It was an great start to our meal. I had the tuna duo (very good) and my mom had the half chicken. (She also enjoyed her meal very much.) We also split a very tasty Bananas Foster for dessert. Cabs were easy to come by after dinner to get back to our Michigan Ave. hotel. I would not hesitate to return to Jack's, or to recommend it to someone else."

  • "The food is always great, but Michael our waiter make our evening a night to remember. Every detail was seen to and he made us feel like we were the only customer he had to take care. Thanks for a great dining experience and we will definitely continue to recommend Jack's to all our friends & bring our out of town guests to dine there. Thanks for a great evening!!"

  • "This is always a great choice before seeing the Blue Man Group. Short walk to Briar Street Theater. Service is fast, food is delicious. I brought my daughters, and they were out of the pasta she wanted on the menu, but they were able to make something comparable that she loved. The only complaint is that we sat near the door, and it was a cold blustery night, so we kept our coats on through dinner. They need a better buffer at the door for the cold weather."

  • "This was our 1st time at Jack's and choose this restaurant due to the positive reviews from Open Table. We made reservations online for 7PM. When we arrived Jack's was "waiting for a table to leave, about 5 minutes", to accommodate our reservation We understood and were patient. After waiting 20 minutes and having 5 groups seated who had arrived after us, we inquired about our table. We were told they had forgotten to reserve a table for one of their regulars and gave our table to them. This kinda set the tone for the evening. The host did apologize several times but, we thought it would have been appropriate to comp us for a round of drinks or dessert but, nothing was offered for our inconvenience. The food was pricey $$$ and just average"

  • "I almost don't want to rate this place just in case we can not get back in. We went for valentines day and the place was buzzing, great vibe, the best food we have had since arriving in Chicago a year ago and the owners made sure the service was took notch. We are definitely going back again!"

  • "The food here was good. We had scallops and tuna for the main dishes. Nothing exceptional, and the total bill was $120 for a $28 bottle of wine, salad, appetizer and 2 entrees. Each entree was $31. Service was very good. Wine by the glass was expensive at $9. Not sure it is worth it unless you have a coupon to reduce the cost."

  • "What a great surprise! I selected Jack's based on the Open Table reviews and they were right!! I almost hate to share how good they were in fear that it will become impossible to get a reservation. The food was awesome!! The drinks were a generous pour!! The parking easy!!! The service was the best!!! There is not one thing I would change."

  • "A great neighborhood restaurant on N Halsted, a block from the Briar Street Theatre. We were there on a Saturday night, and by 7:00 the place was packed. The sauvignon blanc wine was very nice. The mixed green salad was fresh and tasty. For dinner, my friend had steak and fries and they were excellent. My fish (tilapia) was great, though the sauce was a little overpowering. Dessert -- a trio of gelato -- was wonderful."

  • "Great food and good service as always. Very quiet nite so you felt like you were at home with butler service. Not hurried nice flow of wine and food. Still time for dessert and coffee."

  • "I had received several recommendations from friends to go to Jack's for dinner, following a Blue Man Group performance. The reservations were set for 7:00pm for 3 people. We arrived at 5 to 7:00 and were told that there was nothing available and that we could sit at the bar for a while. My 84 year old mother had to scramble up a stool with some difficulty and then we waited.... Finally, a table too close to the door on a cold night was made available to us at 7:20, even though it had been empty since we walked in 25 minutes earlier. Our server seemed to be filling in as a bartender and made one stop between taking our order and dropping off the check. The food was wonderful. Everything was cooked to perfection and was very tasty."

  • "The service was terrific from the host to came out to my husband's car to tell him where to park to our waiter, Ark, who had a great sense of humor and very responsive. Food was good and tasty - not going to win a Michelin star but certainly no one walked away disappointed. Very moderately priced for in the city and a great value. Don't miss the bread pudding - I'm not usually a fan but it was fantastic."
