Diner Reviews
  • "Jackie's is a great place to have an elegant, low key, friendly, foodie-esque celebration if you are looking for one! I took my friend there for her 40th with a few other folks who were 1st timers and they all loved it. The waiter (Ryan I believe) was outstanding! You won't be disappointed. :)"

  • "Been going to Jackies since it opened. The new Chef is Awesomw!! Go eat live MAS."

  • "We dined as two middle-aged couples before an event at the nearby cultural center. Reception and service were excellent, on a miserable rainy night. Menu was interesting and varied and accomodated the vegetarians in the party. Portion sizes were reasonable and service was friendly and speedy, attentitve but not rushed or obtrusive. We discovered this gem through a search for local restaurants on Open Table since both couples live in Northern Virginia. It was helpful that the website said the entrance was around the corner on Sligo since it was an unfamiliar neighborhood for us."

  • "Loved the variety of flavors. Small plates, but it offers the chance to try multiple dishes. We all lived everything we ordered. Con - they don't do a complimentary birthday dessert! First time I have come across that."

  • "The food was quite good and interesting. I wish the menu was a bit bigger."

  • "From the outside, we weren't even sure Jackie's was open! We had drinks in the side bar. EXTREMELY interesting and creative cocktails. We consulted with the "beverage director" when we sat down because the cocktails on the restaurant side were different and even better!! The food was right on with smaller portions just right for trying 2-3 dishes. I've had small plates experiences where I leave hungry and this would never be the case here. They are smaller portions, not small plates. The mashed potatoes, cheese fries, margaritas, rib eye, lobster, everything was amazing!"

  • "At Jackie's, you're looking at true top-notch food, and great drinks too. My girlfriend and I had wild mushroom confit, lobster with squid ink tagliatelle, char with this crazy and awesome avocado, pineapple/chili, and tomato garnish, venison, ribeye, and chocolate desert. The plates are tasting size. We also had 2 mixed drinks each. The ambience is very cool, slightly industrial, and the service was impeccable. This isn't a McDonald's or a Denny's, you should expect to pay for the quality, but that said, I've paid close to twice as much other places for the quality of the food and drink at Jackie's. For what you get, it's a good deal, and there's a reason the head chef was a guest on a Bobby Flay show."

  • "Limited menu, but the items that are on the menu are done very well. The desserts are impressive. Good drinks menu."

  • "We went to a performance at the Montgomery County performing arts center on a Sunday afternoon, and wanted to do an early dinner after the show. we found Jackie's due to proximity and saw some wonderful reviews -- boy were they right! Everything we had was WONDERFUL. The plates are small, meant for sharing, even the entrees (for example, the delicious rib eye steak was about 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches). They had a great deal on sunday -- 3 plates for $27 (one from snacks and veggies, one from farm and sea, and one dessert). three of us did 2 of those deals and got one more veggie and entree, and we had PLENTY. Loved the brussel sprouts, the marinated artichoke, the arctic char, and the amish chicken and both desserts."

  • "The only way to order is by tasting plates. You choose three tasting plates for a fixed amount, or four and the price goes up. You will find yourself devouring the contents of the bread basket waiting for the next tiny, yet elegant, tasting plate. The irony is that the super small portion of the tasting plate is served in or on the largest dish possible. Everything is so rich with cream and such that, yes, you can fill full after three tasting plates. Seemed arrogant for the restaurant to imply that I don't know when to stop eating and take home a doggy bag. Obviously no wasted food at this restaurant. We were licking our plates and bowls between servings of a tasting plate. By the way, absolutely no refill on the bread basket."

  • "Varied selection of fish and vegetable dishes. Portions are moderate, and variety encourages sharing. Brussel sprouts preparation is superb!"

  • "Not as good as usual. The mushroom pappardalle was good, but endives were very bitter and flavors didn't seem to go together. The short ribs were more like a steak. In all, a disappointment compared to prior incredible meals I have had at Jackie's."

  • "Neat restaurant in downtown Silver Spring. Service is always attentive and friendly. The food is creative (don't expect to order a burger) and is always delicious. We've never been disappointed."

  • "I would like to see more vegetarian options. The tasting menu is great, but there isn't anything filling enough for vegetarians--more grain/pasta type dishes would help."

  • "We've been enjoying Jackie's since we moved to Silver Spring in 2007. We like what Jackie and Chef Adam Harvey have done with the new small plate menu. We got the brussel sprouts, artichoke salad, pork belly and the fluke. Everything was delicious. Our waiter, Ryan, took great care of us as they always do."

  • "Jackie's used to be a great neighborhood restaurant--fun and unexpected and lively. But over the last few months, something has happened to the food: It's really, really good. Not just fun. First rate."

  • "Heard about this restaurant on the Food Network and I'm so glad I did. We tried the 5 course tasting menu and everything was delicious. The restaurant had a very industrial trendy feel and the service was excellent!"

  • "Jackie's was a terrific find! Where else can someone who despises brussel sprouts polish off a whole plate of them? I loved them at Range, but this was better. Korean chicken, papperadell with oxtail ragu, fluke and artic char were all plates we'd have over again. We found the portions more than ample, too. And dessert -- how even to choose? Our knowledgeable server helped us with this and the tropical fruit vacherin was outstanding. This is a serious kitchen -- imaginative food, quality ingredients, beautiful presentations and a thrill for the taste buds. My one regret is that we don't live closer. Bethesda needs a restaurant of this quality, which would be packed if in this area. So we will make the drive. It's well worth it."

  • "This has to be the best deal in MoCo. On Mondays only, there is only one item on the menu - for $12 you get 3 pieces of expertly seasoned and cooked plump friend chicken, kale cooked like collard greens, a voluptious heap of sensous potato/deviled egg salad, a biscuit and HOT DOUGHNUTS... Are you kidding me??? Amazing amazing amazing. Go to Jackies any other night for a truly gourmet meal. Go on monday with the kids for an inexpensive delicous meal."

  • "I would not go to Silver Spring without eating at Jackie's. The menu is amazing. The people are always gracious. The food, all the way to the goat cheese cheesecake, is always sublime."

  • "I went with friends to Jackie's, and although the food quality was excellent, the portion sizes were a bit small for the amount that we were charged. For me and my friends, the portions were fine: the price was the sticking point. I also do not like to be asked ten times if I want another drink, hence the four stars for service."

  • "Best roasted brussel sprouts I've ever had. Pork belly was excellent and so was the short ribs entrée. My only complaint was sitting under this row of very bright spotlights. While they turned them down when I mentioned it, my husband and I felt very warm during the dinner from the heat of the lights. Will definitely go back and ask for a different table."

  • "I'm still counting my blessings that Silver Spring is home to such a fantastic restaurant. The chef has really creative, delicious ideas and we loved everything we had. .The Sidebar that ajoins the restaurant has very great signature cocktails. We were there on a Friday night and the noise level was very high, so it was relief to go over to our table where it was much more quiet. the younger crowd may enjoy the bar scene more than we did (early 50's)."

  • "I highly recommend Jackie's! Each time I visit I have the best experience. Service, food, price... all great! Jackie's is becoming my good to restaurant when I want to entertain friends, family from out of town, or just brunch with a friend on a weekend afternoon."

  • "The server did a great job explaining the plates were small and 3-5 plates would be a regular meal. The food was good and well presented. Considering the ingredients, presentation and location the price of the small plates should be in line with the size, not the price of full size portions. So, a bit pricey for a neighborhood gem."

  • "The food was absolutely excellent, but the problem with tapas, noticeably at this restaurant, is that you spend a lot of money and leave feeling as if you have not had dinner at all! I understand that tapas is Small Plates but these were too small for the price"

  • "The service was attentive and helpful. The food itself, however, was undistinguished -- better on menu that in the mouth. Not terrible and not expensive either but wasn't good enough to make me want to return. There are many restaurants to choose from."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "Portions were too small. We all left your restaurant hungry. Guess we needed to spend another $100.00. We were disappointed. We went there for dinner not snacks. We got big plates for 3 to 4 bites of food. We should have eaten dinner before going there."

  • "We came especially for the Monday night family-style fried chicken dinner. The chicken, potato salad and greens were delicious, the beer was cold, the service was gracious, and our booth seating was cozy and just right for catching up with friends over a good meal."
    Dined on 2/24/2014
  • "The food was overpriced. They have small plates but the food is expensive since you need to buy three to get a normal meal. This adds to $45.00 before drinks etc. The draft beer choices were not impressive. So, I won't go back."

  • "I've been here three times now, and each time did not disappoint. I welcome the passion and enthusiasm from each server about the food and the delicate preparation that goes into each dish. Since the dishes are generally smaller (think slightly larger tapas), you're able to try a number of different preparations. The open room ambiance combined with the passion for excellent food make this a must visit each time I'm remotely in the area. Thanks!"

  • "Jackie's has excellent food and fantastic service. I went with a large group and we all enjoyed our meals. Just don't come starving unless you'd like to spend quite a bit of money; the plates are small and it's a bit pricey for the food."

  • "Jackie's is extremely noisy. It has also switched to a small plates menu - but the prices are still in the $16 to $25 range. It was ok but I doubt we'll go back any time soon."

  • "Colleague from the UK... staying at the Sheraton... Meet Me at Jackies! You've never let me down, and you didn't last night. Fun and delightful stuff (the endive starter was MY pleasure--- I did NOT share it!). Arctic Char was moist, tender.... thank you, with tiny little potatoes and perfect tiny cubes of veg... not too much, not too little... just right, And this time, the waitstaff was totally professional--- no trainees/ A tad Mr Personality... but he knew the menu, the wine list... and enough to check back at the right times. Urban Butcher, Olazza and Kitchen Bar notwithstanding, Jackie's is the only great dining, to take friends, to meet and greet ... certainly East of the Park, and possibly North of the District Line"

  • "We had high hopes after checking out the menu, but the food just did not live up to the descriptions. We started with donuts which were freshly made but lacked in flavor. Both the chocolate and coconut glazes were lackluster. The omelette was rubbery- definitely overcooked the eggs, and the "oxtail" consisted of a couple chunks of fat, with virtually no meat. It was also pretty small and came with no side dish- not worth the $12. Husband had the corned beef, which was okay but on the dry side. Biscuits and gravy were so-so. The home fries were okay but had to dump salt all over them. The basil-limeade had no basil flavor whatsoever. Overall the food was a disappointment and I wouldn't go back here again."

  • "I ate here like 5 yrs ago hoping that I could still get the great steak that I once had, maybe those great sliders. Unfortunately, those items were no longer on the menu replaced, instead, by a tapas/small plate menu. I thought the food was good, but some items were very overrated. The most annoying menu item was the Korean barbecue chicken. I paid $9 for this dish and basically got two "small" chicken wings. For $70, I guess I was expecting just a little more. Our service was great, but I just thought it was a little high for what you got serving size wise."

  • "There was a prix-fixe menu with a reasonable number of choices for appetizers, main courses and desserts. Rib-eye steak for 2 was fantastic--too much to finish at the restaurant. Service was great, very attentive an knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. Overall, a lovely dining experience."

  • "Jackie's has been around for a while. So, it's had it's ups and downs like any long-standing restaurant. The last couple of times we've eaten there, the food has been worth of praise and the service good. They were crowded on Valentines Day but we were well taken care of and the food was tasty."
