Diner Reviews
  • "We did not request an outdoor table reservation but they accommodated, once we saw that availability. From that point on, it continued to be a great experience: from the service to the meal, we could have been more pleased. The Ritz certainly knows about top level customer service."

  • "We were given a lovely corner table for our group of four. The food was inventive and very well prepared. Luis, our server, was a standout and made our evening exceptionally enjoyable. Lots of buzz in the air and we will certainly return. The free valet parking was a great idea!! "

  • "Wonderful service per usual. Lynette is a gem. Craft cocktails are more adventurous than food items. Both are impeccably executed. I would like to see the food items expanded with more risky and unique choices. Overall it was a great experience. "

  • "Great atmosphere for business or pleasure, food was so good, same the service."

  • "Great food and they accommodated special requests for 1/2 order of oysters and when I asked about a cocktail their bar man made me something unique which was terrific"

  • "This was the first time dining at Jack Dusty for my husband and myself. There were many guests dining at the time we arrived and the hostess seated all promptly. We had reservations and were able to sit outside. A band was playing on the courtyard which added a nice touch to the meal. We started with caviar that was harvested from the local aquarium. These were served in a cream on top of silver dollar pancakes, very delicious. I had glasses of wine that were excellent. The wine menu was just the right size while the regular menu was a bit short. Despite that, we both found something we would enjoy. I had a seafood pasta dish that was fresh and tasty. Dessert and coffee were excellent. Our server was very attentive made good suggestions."

  • "Nice welcome, attentive staff. I made a last minute reservation and was escorted to a table I didn't particularly like, they kindly moved me to a preferred spot. The food was very good, ordered the blistered peppers which remind Spanish tapas, the bread which is too sweet for my taste (it's more like a dessert) so our server brought us a toasted baguette which was perfect. My wife had a delicious beef brisket with cauliflower and I had the grouper étouffée perfectly prepared. One thing I did't like was that the dishes were not piping hot… we decided not to make a big deal about this."

  • "Went there for an early dinner before a show. The restaurant is great. The food was delicious and very different. The bread is fantastic (baked and served in a can) and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert was outrageous. I will definitely be back!"

  • "After having waited for our waitress to even show up at our table for about 10-15 minutes after having been seated (with a reservation), it took her another 5 minutes to even bring water; another 10 minutes to take our drink order, she came back with only 3 out of our party of 5's drinks - the other 2 drinks didn't arrive for another 10 minutes. When we asked what the specials were, she said, "You'll have to wait until Im ready to tell you." Not the usual service one expects at a Ritz. That said, all our meals were fabulous - really top-notch. All the other staff (door attendants/valets) were extremely courteous and professional. Aside from our seemingly overwhelmed waitress, a good place to go while in Sarasota."

  • "I love coming here and bringing guests who visit Sarasota. The atmosphere is great.. food is consistently good. They have a very nice outdoor seating area for cocktails before and /or after dinner. The only problem is that the service out there is awful. The last 3 times I have been there is takes forever to get a drink order in.. takes forever to actually get the drinks and then takes forever to settle up the check. Ritz Carlton Please Fix This!!!"

  • "Really enjoyed our experience as first time quests. Would highly recommend!"

  • "Reprint the wine list! We carefully chose wine that we both knew and would complement our dinner choices - instead of saying "sorry we're out of that",our waiter just brought a substitute, as if that was that. Different vintage, and a producer neither of us had heard of (and we both work in the wine business) I asked about another white I saw - nope, out of that too. Paper is cheap, the Ritz can afford to reprint the list weekly at least, as items change. the food and service were good. I asked about a special prep for grouper and he not only made it work, but it was exactly as I wanted it to be. My partner had the shrimp and grits and loved it. We had the fried green tomatoes appetizer and, while tasty, it was under sauced."

  • "Our 5th trip here was the least satisfying. Service was poor on a slow weeknight and food was overcooked. Usually better on weekends when busy. The dishes are well-conceived, but the execution varies. The raw bar is excellent and the ambiance is as well. Because of our generally better experiences in the past, and the dearth of good restaurants in Sarasota, we will go to Jack Dusty again for sure and do recommend that you try it."

  • "We discovered jack dusty when it opened. The first two times we went it was amazing. The last three times we were disappointed. One time the service was very poor almost like they didn't care that we were there. The second time the raw bar platter was of poor quality. The last time we were there one of the entrees was cold and when we sent it back it came back undercooked. This is so sad because this restaurant, in the Ritz, does not stand up to the international reputation expected."

  • "We had a really nice time. Great ambience. Excellent service. Fair price for very good food."

  • "If you like a lovely view accompanied by slow service and mediocre food sold at exorbitant prices, then Jack Dusty is perfect for you. For $150.00 you can have a much less than sumptuous lunch for 4 of salmon Caesar salad and ice tea that could be served much more efficiently and tasty at almost anywhere for 1/3 of that. The view, while nice, just does NOT justify the price and slow service. This is my second similar experience here. It will be my last."

  • "I'm tired of bad restaurants hiding behind the Ritz Carton brand. Overpriced entrees and unregoziable wines by the glass from $15-$25. The service was less than adequate."

  • "Service was very friendly and very good. The food was truly the worst we have had in the Sarasota area out of about 25 restaurants. Don't waste your money. Go downtown to fabulous restaurants or to St Armand's Circle for other unique places."

  • "The four of us thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful views, the hip interior ambience, and the food. The only negative is the failure of the restaurant to carry flavored Vodka which all of us normally drink. It's time for Dusty Jack's to carry these drinks."

  • "We were there before theater. Great small bites and entrees. Very good service. And they poured a wonderful drink and a beautful glass of wine! Happy hour was crowded at the bar. Fresh seafood. Warm, homemade loaf of bread to every table. Well worth the prices which are what you make them. There's definately something for everyone here and I highly reccomend this restaurant!"

  • "I went to the Jack Dusty for dinner before the opera in downtown Sarasota and it was wonderful! Perfect dinner for a much needed getaway! Service was friendly, as always at the Ritz, The food was delicious, and the restaurant had a nice culture."

  • "We were not previously informed that our reservation was outside which despite the heaters was a problem because of my wife's dress. I had to give her my jacket. Making matters worse we never had a waiter assigned to our table. The helpers were courteous and wanted to be helpful but lacked the experience of a good waiter. Our drink order was incorrect and had to be replaced. My shrimp bisque was lukewarm at best. The entrees were very good. We skipped desert . As we were leaving the Restaurant Manager stopped to apologize but by then it was too late. We love Ritz hotels and resorts so hope the Sarasota restaurant was just having a bad night."

  • "This restaurant exceeded my expectations in all areas. The service was impeccable and the waitstaff very friendly. I had a seafood dish while my wife had steak, and both were cooked to perfection. Our waiter was extremely attentive and made sure to keep our glasses full. Great for a special occasion, and on a cool Florida evening, the ceramic heaters are a nice romantic touch."

  • "We drove down to Sarasota for the day and made reservations at Jack Dusty's for lunch and it was terrific. The restaurant is inside the Ritz Carlton Hotel and is beautiful as was the view from the outside seating area where we ate. We had their fried green tomatoes with crabmeat followed by their lobster roll and blackened grouper sandwich. Everything we had was fresh and innovative including their custom cocktails. This is definitely a restaurant worth the drive!"

  • "Our Valentine's Day dinner was superlative in every respect save noise level. The large open dining area and bar were bustling as expected but the piped in electronic dance music was unacceptably loud. Menu offered variety of seafood and land entrees. Great cocktails and wine list. My appetizer of fried green tomatoes with crab meat was excellent. Entree of shrimp and grits with andouille was fantastic. WIfe's filet mignon was prepared perfectly. Our server was exceptional. Aside from the ear-piercing background music, the only disappointment was the lack of any flowers or other recognition that it was Valentine's Day. Definitely going back."

  • "Jack Dusty provided a memorable evening with very good food, service and ambience. The clam chowder, served piping hot in a covered bowl was excellent. The salad was fresh and the crab cake and tenderloin tasty. The chef used too much salt on the potatoes. The red velvet cake sundae was fair as the cake was dry and the chocolate sauce was missing. The key lime pie was very good. When making reservations, make sure you state whether you wish to sit inside or outside. We were seated outside since we did not know to state our preference in our reservation. On cool Sarasota evenings, the table heater provided does not provide enough warmth to be comfortable."

  • "We had a lovely time. Jeff and Daniel were a great serving team. Gillian (I think that was her name) went above and beyond as a hostess making us feel well taken care of & heard when we had requested a table w/ a view. Our meals were delish. Our scratch (hand crafted) cocktails were ok, but that's not a complaint. Thanks for making the night & our FL so special."

  • "The brown bread was ridiculously good to start and my étouffée snapper entrée was delicious. Our town has a worthy new addition! The fish was cooked perfectly and the étouffée and greens were a tad salty, but delicious."

  • "Jack Dystys is new restaurant in nicely remodeled Ritz. The restaurant has modern vibe and geared for younger generation. We ate ate at active bar. However, the patio is beautiful and we would have eaten there if it would have been a bit warmer outside. The food was very good, but not outstanding. We ordered three different appetizers and shared a meal. All the seafood was fresh and we enjoyed our meal. We had to send a salad back because it was too spicy to enjoy, and we love spicy food ( someone else could not take more than one bite)."

  • "We got engaged in the old formal dining room which was lovely, but seemed a bit out of place for Sarasota. Now we really enjoy the new more casual atmosphere… cool decor, interesting menu, great service, nice spots for indoor and outdoor dining."

  • "Everything was absolutely delicious! My bf and I went with another couple. We had the rock shrimp ceviche and the crab cake to start. For dinner we had: the lobster, the Maui special, Seabass special, and the paella. We all loved our meals. And they have this unbelievable bread there. It is made with polenta, honey and molasses. The drinks were good, they have a good wine list as well. We liked it so much we went back for lunch the next day. I had the crab ale sandwich and my bf had the blackened grouper sandwich. Delicious!!! And free valet!"

  • "We were seated outside on a cold night. No option to sit inside. Our waiter was great but that was the highlight. He let us try the wines and made good suggestions. Steak was good. Sides were not very elaborate. Crab cake was decent. Dessert was fair. Too pricey for what it was."

  • "We were greeted by more than one host/hostess which made us feel like we were top priority. We were seated at a high top table which is not my preference but the chairs were unusually comfortable. Our waiter was Edgar and he toook great care of us. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits=Fantastic! and the Special of Mahi=Great! My Slinghook drink was delicious and the wine options were plenty. Both I, and my companion for the evening, felt the ambience was wonderful (as expected for the Ritz-Carlton) and we would both recommend this restaurant to friends. Seemed to be a great place to network and socialize at the bar as well. Thank you for a great experience."
