Gilbert’s – Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood - WorthingtonWood fired steaks, fabulous!!Found this restaurant while visiting j.alexanders I have been up in this area many times but never noticed it and the sign caught my eye about wood fired steaks and seafood. The restaurant is on the smaller side with a cavern like setting(brick walls) with low lighting. We were promptly seated (we had a RSVP) and the waiter was their within minutes for our drink order. We all had steak and what I found very appealing was that they have 4 and 6 oz steaks. These smaller steaks could also be combined with seafood, a big bonus for me as like a little variety! The sides are served on your plate and you get two I believe with most meals as opposed to sides for the table which at times not everyone agrees. We were seated in a booth which took us away from the floor and we almost felt secluded which was great. The only drawback to the noise level was a nearby banquet room where the noise was a bit higher than I would ike, but certainly not intolerable. We were able to carry on a nice conversation w/o raising our voices. The food was great and my steak was a perfect medium w/melt-in-your-mouth tenderness and great flavor. The service was impeccible; very prompt, yet relaxed and unhurried. My wife also had scallops and I had a crab cake and both were excellent. This time I tried new appetizers and they were out of this world. Definitely try the last one on the menu with the Italian name too hard to remember. Also, the waiter was very knowledgeable and helped us pick out a wine that paired well with each of our meals. One of us had the big Ribeye, done to exactly as requested, one had the petit filet with the scallops, done as requested as well. I had to make they talk otherwise their heads were down over their plates. I had the lobster, delicioso!
It has been a long time since I had lobster out, hate to pay that much and get an overdone, tough product. Yours was sweet and tender just as it should be. The yukon potatoes and grilled asparagus were cooked perfectly.

Wonderful desserts. Be prepared to open your wallet. We spent just over 2 Benjamin Franklin’s on drinks, dinner and dessert for the four of us before tax and gratuity. The atmosphere could be considered dark and romantic depending on your table. I found most of the tables to be too close to one another. We could clearly overhear the conversation at the table next to us. Ask for a booth if you want a quiet evening. They offer aged steaks,seafood and pasta in a very romantic setting. Their wine list is exceptional and the wait staff is always very knowledgeable. Pricing is excellent and the meals are inclusive of sides.

They do have an option for salad/entree/dessert price fixe, which was nice. They were not that busy for a Friday night, which surprised all of us. Food was just average-nothing spectacular or memorable. The claim to fame is "Wood fired grill" and the steaks/chicken had that smoky taste for sure. We were all sort of dissapointed with our waiter-she was not overly friendly and not very attentive. Seemed not to care if we had drinks replenished/etc. The whole experience was just ok-I much prefer J Alexanders in the same Crosswoods area. Gilbert's for my birthday dinner. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for some time now and I am glad that I finally did. I ordered the special which was a trio of 4oz. filets with different sauces. All three were excellent! I had a side of lobster mac and cheese and it was probably the best that I have ever had. One of the best steaks I've had in Columbus. I had the Kansas City Strip and it was delicious - no sauce needed. Also had the lobster mac 'n cheese - it was incredible! And I really enjoyed the carrot cake for dessert - the frosting had coconut, which I loved. All in all, the food was done really well and the service was very good.
