Gilbert's is located on the lower level of a rather non-descript office building located in an area of stand-alone chain restaurants, strip malls, and office complexes; therefore my expectation were not high. However, the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. There are no views to the outside (for the reasons above), but the inside ambience is that of an old style high-end steak house - dark colors, wood, low lighting; all done tastefully. Each table is somewhat isolated and the tone is upscale and romantic. Pricing is on the high side, but you get what you pay for. A nice place for a special occasion or date night."

Lately, the entrée prices have jumped especially for meats. Also, the house salad is smaller. Overall, J Gilberts is a very good restaurant just a little below Hyde Park and Eddie Merlot as a steakhouse."

My husband's New Zealand lamb dish was probably the best lamb he had ever had, and my lobster rissoto and scallops were fresh tasting and beautifully prepared."

  • "We came here for my fiance's birthday. We will definitely be coming here on special occasions. It is such a treat. The steaks are melt in your mouth delicious! I normally do not like lamb, however J Gilbert has made me a fan of lamb which I never thought was possible!! They say if its cooked right, lamb is delicious and it was cooked to perfection and tasted superb!! Located in an area where there are other Steak restaurants, I would definitely recommend J Gilbert, hands down."

  • "Food: Our steak was awful however the scallops were the best we've ever had, the creamed corn was amazing, the asparagus and spinach was delish- all around the dinner was not a disappointment aside from our steak (which, sadly, was our main entree) Service: The waiter was amazingly well versed with the food and wine list. He even recommended a wine to my girlfriend and she loved it Ambience: The ambience was nice, warm, inviting, and relaxed Price: It is a quite expensive restaurant however it was nice to try a new place"

I had the caesar salad and it was fantastic… I wanted the crab cake and 4 oz filet for my main dish, but they were unfortunately out of the crab cakes… I subbed with the scallops, and they were delicious. Our food was paced nicely, I never felt like we were waiting too long for anything… our server, Monika, did a great job. We will definitely be back sometime soon!"

I love getting the flavored teas, although they aren't on the menu (none of the soft drinks are) they are very very good. We had a great time celebrating his birthday and are sure to be back!"

We decided to take advantage of the Restaurant Week menu and fell in love. The food was excellent, especially the scallops and cedar plank salmon. Truly amazing.   • "Last time I went with my family, we all liked it very much. This time was my friend's birthday and I reserved more than one month earlier. But we got the table by the entrance. Around our table was all servers wiping the glasses or getting ready to set the table. Time was 5:30 pm and not so busy yet. We requested to move us somewhere in the back. After we were done, I have noticed there are some private area. I don't know if I was supposed to request? I told them it would be a birthday dinner. Later restaurant got very busy. I could see they were busy... which made us uncomfortable... Very nice restaurant but I felt worse than Bob Evans.... Probably it was the last day of Restaurant Week.... Bad timing on her birthday..."

The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere lulled you right in, all making a relaxing and enjoyable evening out.   • "This is truly a 4 - 5 star restaurant that had a terrible night. The service was inattentive, we were seated in the banquet room as "overflow" even though we had standing reservations. The food was only okay - the crab cakes had a fishy aftertaste. When we noted our concerns to the front desk they were dismissive since they were "busy". On a positive note this is the first bad experience I have had out of many visit to this restaurant. I will try them again and hope that their service level returns to what I would expect of such a great venue."

It was as good as we remembered from our last visit to Columbus. Service was great. Made dinner reservation several weeks in advance on Open Table and they did not have a table for us when we arrived. Several tables were vacant, but they were "reserved". Not sure what the advantage is to book thru Open Table."

  • "For an expensive restaurant, we were let down. I don't think I would recommend this to anyone. There were seven of us celebrating a birthday. I ordered the Kansas Strip, the steak was good, the bake potato and green beans were cold. The bake potato didn't even melt the butter. I did tell the server, he brought a hot potato to exchange with the cold potato. Now you would think an expensive restaurant such as J. Gilbert could have done better. Now my wife whose birthday we were celebrating, order the salmon with a tomato salad, the salmon was cold and the tomatoes were not even fresh, they appeared to be hot house tomatoes. What a let down. I guess the other dinners were okay. Oh yes, how do you run out of bread at 6:00PM? What a let down."
