Diner Reviews
  • "We love to meet family and friends at J Gilberts. The food is always delicious and the service consistent. We enjoy knowing we can have a relaxing and enjoyable dinner every time."

  • "My wife and I had the filet and lobster tail combo special. My filet was stringy but my wife's was tender. For appetizer we had the calamari, surprisingly spicy with the jalapeno. The lobster was grilled and was a bit tough to cut, perhaps over cooked. String beans were excellent as were the Yukon gold potatoes. For dessert (free) we tried the creme brulee, the sugar topping was a bit over caramelized and had a burnt flavor. With wine and tip, the bill was just under two hundred. My wife and I were well dressed, but others were in shorts and had small children, typical of a mall food court."

  • "My girlfriend took me here for my birthday and it was great! Fantastic food and service."

  • "This is one of my fav restaurants in St. Louis. We went with seven people, and everyone was impressed with the food. Love the shrimp! My husband and I go a lot on Thursday and sit at the bar. Great ambiance and sometimes half price bottle wine at bar on Thursday."

  • "Fabulous filet with wonderful flavor, perfectly tender. Wonderful service. Would highly recommend!"

  • "Ended up there because we had a gift card. Bill for two with tip over $150 with tip - we ate from the Fixed Price menu option. Best thing was the Crab Bisque - it was excellent. 4oz. Filet was overdone from what was ordered - my wife ordered Medium and got Well done and I ordered Medium Rate and got Medium +. Scallops were a little gritty and not not to the caliber of some other places we frequent (Bristols). For the price (included 4 drinks), there are places we would go back to that are much better. Service was just fine and the server was friendly and we didn't have any issues with restaurant in that regard. For me, it was just a little too dark - but I know that's personal choice."

  • "As always the steaks were great but the service lacked this time out. We were seated in a booth by the bar which was a mistake as the service was very slow. Please make sure to ask for seating in main dining area."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Although they advertize fish as well as steak, the choices are limited to two, tuna and salmon. It is however, the coupons which keep us coming back."

  • "the atmosphere is great with beautiful decor. The food was average in taste and high in price. We went on Father's Day and were disappointed in the lack of choices ont he dinner menu."

  • "We are regulars here! Love it! Friendly staff...Great food....nice atmosphere! Great after work spot!"

  • "Service was great. Atmosphere was very nice. Food was delicious but pricey. Would probably only return for very special occasion."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "First time dining. Heard from family "..pretty good wedge salad, nice place..." Wife & I went like it right away decor was inviting. Cocktails were served with good pour ,in proper glassware, and just as ordered. Bread was very good, hit & crusty round artesian with 2 choices house made butter. Food came promptly, hot, with perfect presentation! Quality of food top shelf with moderately high price but good value. Follow up service after meal tardy but not uncommon in today's labor market tipped 18% not 20 due to that. We will return "

  • "A bit on the pricey side, but worth it! Everything is well done, except the steaks which arrive at peak rare-doneness as ordered. We also ordered the pork chops which were tender, juicy and just right. The sautéed spinach was a real surprise; fresh, and served without all the unnecessary sauces most restaurants pour on. It was great and just the right amount of crispness. The service was attentive without being intrusive and the music level was just under diner awareness. Just a perfect evening."

  • "I loved the salmon entree, well prepared and excellent taste."

  • "Went here for the second year in a row to enjoy an anniversary dinner. Seated right away. Server was very knowledgeable and efficient without being obtrusive. Food was excellent as were the drinks. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion. Wouldn't bring my picky kids here as their menu isn't kid friendly. "

  • "We like J Gilberts, however on this Saturday the pace of the service was just too fast. We had just got our martinis and the salad was out, we were barely done with the salads and the main course arrived."
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "Food portions were outstanding. Service wonderful. Food was cooked to perfection. We got what we paid for. "

  • "Dinner was great but A/C was broken!!!!! We should have been told this upon arrival. If we would have known, we would have left. "
    Dined on 5/8/2014
  • "Food was as good as always. Had only come weekends before, so enjoyed the lounge piano player we had not seen before, who I assume only plays weekdays? Servers still tend to rush you, bringing next course before you have finished the previous one."
    Dined on 5/8/2014
  • "Always a great meal with service to match. Our server, Michael, was attentive but allowed us the serenity to enjoy our food, drinks and time. A real treat was the managements offering of a complementary dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary. Great food, great service and great ambiance!"

  • "My wife and I recently visited J. Gilbert's for my birthday dinner. I had the filet and lobster tail. My dinner was delicious. My wife raved about her herb roasted chicken. Jason, our server did excellent work, attending to our needs efficiently while avoiding being intrusive. The GM, Tripp, came by our table to offer birthday felicitations. Our experience was superb. I shall recommend J. Gilbert's and intend to return soon."

  • "If you want good food, J.Gibert's is the place to go. Both of our steaks were cooked to perfection, and the side dishes are creative and delicious. Our server left something to be desired. He did not think they had horseradish at a steak house?? Then told us the chef would try to whip some up for us?? It was like he was trying to rush us, like taking our plates when we were not finished ect... He might have been new, but kind of soured my Birthday dinner. Usually the service is top notch. Still, we went away full and happy with our meal."

  • "Every time we go to J. Gilbert's we say we need to come back more offen. My wife loves the "atmosphere". You really can't beat the food for quality. There are plenty of options on the menu, but this is essentially a beef and seafood restaurant. We received great service from Joseph. We'll be back sooner than later."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "First impression was was good but downhill with server that wasn't friendly and didn't make me feel special for being their. Not a good steak selection and the filet was thin and not good beef flavor and texture. Scallop potatoes had way too much butter in them. Still a way to go when compared to their competitors."
