  • "Went Easter Sunday at 5 pm. Not busy, requested bar seating. It had to have been an off night. Steak not as good as usual, potatoes augratin overcooked, lobster overcooked. LAMB was perfect, risotto mush. not the usual quality of experience we have. We eat at the restaurant 2 to 5 times a month."

Our server and the manager couldn't have been better at handling the situation. The issue was resolved to our complete satisfaction. As I said, we dine here often and this was the first time something wasn't perfect. Because of how it was resolved we will continue to dine here. Thanks to the mgr. and staff."

  • "We have come to expect excellent steaks and great service from J Gilberts and are never disappointed! This last visit my wife chose the seared tuna and it was also excellent. The servers are always knowledgeable and attentive and ours helped us with our selections and we were pleased with the choices. It also helps that J Gilbert's stocks my favorite single malt-Talisker. While I normally have mine neat and add an ice cube or two, the one large cube for an "on the rocks" drink at J Gilbert's makes it perfect. We think J G's has the best steak in KC! Booking through open table is easy and has always given us a great experience.. "

  • "My wife and I went to J. Gilbert's for a special night together and we were very impressed. The steaks basically fall apart when you use your fork. They were good exactly how we asked and they were so juicy and tender. We both would say that we had the best steaks we have ever eaten. The service was excellent. Our waitress did a great job. I would also highly recommend the Chocolate Velvet cake with Raspberry Ice Cream. Overall this was a great experience on a special night for us. You won't be disappointed if you give J. Gilbert's a shot."

  • "My wife and I finally had a weekend to ourselves. We were in Overland Park and decided to give J Gliberts a try. Walked in and the atmosphere was just what we wanted. My wife who is always cold was lucky enough to sit next to the fire place(Happy Wife, happy life). Wine list very good. Food was ok not great. My steak was completely undercooked, good flavor just not cooked right. My wife thought her food was great but her steak was cook right."

My girlfriend got the cheapest glass of white zin, I got a Tank 7, we both went with the salad, 4 oz steak, either 3 shrimp or a crab cake, and dessert, and our bill was $100 plus tip. For the sake of comparing what I would consider "Date Night" restaurants, the food is way better than the Melting Pot, and J. Gilbert's is slightly cheaper. It's not quite as good at Lidia's and you get way less food (the Pasta Trio, for example, is all you can eat), but J. Gilbert's is more expensive. So I suppose if $100+ for two people isn't your idea of expensive, then I highly recommend this restaurant. If $100 for two people is expensive for you, I'd recommend Lidia's for your date night."

  • "Have dined here many times in the past with good results. Not so much this time. I had requested our favorite table in my reservation. Upon arrival,the requested table was not offered nor explantation given. We were seated next to a service area near the very busy kitchen entrance. We re-seated ourselves to a quieter table and explained to the server. Wife ordered the 6 oz filet mignon well done - as she has done many times in the past. Kitchen couldn't get it right. First time out was very rare. Second time was charred on the outside, still rare on the inside. Server took back for 3rd redo. We decided to cancel the third redo and I shared part of my steak with my wife. Not the pleasant evening out we had planned."

  • "We ate here on a Friday night. Live music in the bar area can make certain tables a little difficult for conversation but we were seated away from the bar as requested. I had the top sirloin stake and my companion had a small filet with scallops. The steaks were tasty and expertly prepared. The brussel sprouts i had on the side were delicious and my companion had asparagus which was also great. They have some interesting wines and several are offered by the glass, and you can even pick the size of the pour - 3, 6 or 9 oz. Prices are reasonable. Our server was polished, professional and attentive but not intrusive. If you have room, get the seven layer coconut cake for dessert. Yum. Parking is easy, the decor is clubby and intimate."

  • "Always my go to place for special occasions. I LOVE their steaks! Almost ALWAYS cooked to perfection! This visit, however, my steak was decidedly more on the rare side, than the medium rare requested. Normally, they are cooked to perfection. My 16 oz. KC Strip also had an odd bit of fat (gristle?) running through the entire steak. My companion's steak looked perfect, however. A bit disappointing, as I was treating her for her first trip to j. gilbert's."
