  • "A 10-year relationship with this restaurant where I spent about $1,000 a year ended a couple of nights ago, over a $5 dispute. They made us purchase an unwanted extra $7 dessert in order to qualify for a $25 off promotion based on a $75 food purchase. We spent $85 on food and wine but the waitress said that the food purchase needed to be $75 but we bought only $70 worth of food. We mentioned we were regulars, had used these coupons many times without problems, and we had actually spent $85. We asked her to check with the manager and she returned suggesting we buy another dessert. The waitress and manager said "The computer won't accept the discount if the food is less than $75." Good customer service never puts blame on a machine. "

  • "Yes, I know it is after Valentine's Day- but my review is no less sincere. I took my parents and other guests for a Valentine's Meal before a show, and Mark, and the staff at J Gilberts made them feel as if they were the only people there. My Father was so pleased (He is not always so easily pleased dining out) with his salmon and the other four of us had Filets that would equal any I have had at some of the great steakhouses of the USA. On a night when some might have been rushed, or the quality just a bit off or not as attentive, J Gilberts exceeded my expectations and my family is coming from Pennsylvania in three weeks and has insisted that we dine at J Gilberts and ask for Mark again- thank you for a great meal and dining excellence!"

  • "Another wonderful Sunday brunch - I cannot write my reviews fast enough. I have taken many friends there for dinner and brunch and they want to go back again! I have four dinners booked in the next 2 months on Open Table. If you have not been here - you are seriously missing out. The food is excellent and the presentation and flavors are top notch - the price point could not be better. I am thoroughly impressed by the atmosphere and the wait staff - ask for Michael or Mark, as they have served me both impeccably - this is a gem of a place ot dine. I am so glad a friend introduced it to me, because I am telling everyone about the fabulous experience I have had and continue to have each time I dine here."

What a find, and well worth crossing the American Legion Bridge for the quality and price. Mark waited on us and once again was exceptionally friendly and attentive. I am running out of ways to complement the staff and dining experience, as now I have many friends that tell me they want to go back again and again. Yes, I drive from Germantown, Maryland just to dine there - if you have not been there for dinner or brunch or drinks, or any other meal yet - get there - you will love it - they have parking, atmosphere and a wait staff that is wonderful, and the food - amazing! Make your reservation and plan to go now!"

We arrived at 10 and only waited about 5 minutes to be seated as they had just opened. My 3 year old son enjoyed the salmon, chocolate fountain and the fruit.   • "We are regulars at this wonderful long time steak restaurant. it is our go to place for all family celebrations. We just were not getting the attention and food experience we are used to this time. The wine list did not have 2 of the wines we asked for, the appetizer was far from as good as it used to be. Our server was short and not nearly as warm and pleasant as we have always had. Our steaks were ok - better than ok - but not the wonderful mesquite grill flavor we have come to enjoy at J. Gilberts. Our baked potatoes were hard but at this point, we just ate them anyway - after returning our appetizer for another. All in all this favorite of ours is still good but we may not go back as soon as we usually do."

At the same time, it has the sophistication desired by business leaders for a customer or important employee meeting. The seafood selection has been perfect, and allows those diners not looking for as heavy of a meal to get high-quality food. Business lunch is out fast for those on the run. At the same time, an evening meal can take hours if you like."

  • "My bf and I went there for our dinner date. He ordered their dinner special- 14oz filet mignon and I ordered 18oz bone-in rib-eye "cowboy cut". We both had our steak medium rare cooked. The steaks were very delicious. I ordered "saluted Spinach" and "lobster Mac and cheese" as my sides and my bf ordered "wild mushroom risotto" and "roasted brussels sprouts". My bf liked both of his sides. I liked my lobster Mac and cheese but my sauteed spinach was took salty. My waiter helped me get another sautéed spinach but the new one is still too salty for me so I just didn't eat the rest of spinach. Overall, my bf and I enjoyed our dinner."

It is not a "destination" restaurant and the prices are a bit on the high side for simply having an evening out, but it was very pleasant and the food was good. It is nice to have near our home and a reliable choice for "American" cuisine. We tend to have many good ethnic restaurants and few with what we consider "standard American fare" in our area. With that in mind we know we can to to JL Gilbert's for a good steak or seafood meal."

Our table was a cozy booth in the corner and our water, Michael, was wonderful. He was attentive without being bothersome and friendly instead of annoying. My husband ordered a well done steak and is used to snide remarks but that wasn't the case. It was cooked to his liking. My steak was delicious at medium. I highly recommend J. Gilbert's."
