Also, noted that unlike a lot of other restaurants, J. Gilbert's also easily accommodated those with canes, walkers, and motorized wheel chairs.
The variety at brunch was excellent, including sausage gravy over biscuits, omelets, carving station, lots of good breads and bagels, yummy salmon and chicken, and plentiful desserts. It was a very nice selection for a brunch.
The wait staff was very attentive, providing spoons without being asked, clearing the plates, and pouring the coffee. The brunch buffet was incredible as always. Our server was stretched a bit thin (or maybe he always looks that harried). The tables were very close together, especially given that each person is expected to get up at least once or twice for the buffet. Since he was not going to be able to come back home for Mother's Day he wanted to to take me and my mother to a Sunday brunch. He searched for a brunch in the Winchester or surrounding area and found J. Gilberts'. We were all very pleased with our experience there. The food was fantastic- hot things hot and cold things cold, nicely presented and delicious flavor. There was a nice selection of things to choice from and the buffet was kept clean. Our server was very attentive and polite and we did not feel rushed. We will be back again when we visit my son. However, for the most part, prices at this restaurant are hiked-up, especially given the very small servings of some entrees. We like small servings but wish to be charged more realistically for them, not for gourmet dishes. Two of us enjoyed the wonderful Lobster Cobb Salad and our other friend had the prixe fixed dinner comprising of lobster bisque, filet mignon with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The warm sour dough bread was just terrific, too. Two of us had dessert. One the vanilla bean creme brûlée with raspberries and me, the apple turnover with cinnamon ice cream--perfection! Sonia, our wait staff, was energetic and personable without being intrusive. Our steaks were equally delicious and served to exactly the right temperature. I went with the staff choice and was rewarded with a tender, flavorful cut of meat well prepared.

Gilbert's for a birthday celebration -- their request, and our second annual such trip. Our server, Stephen, was really excellent -- knowledgeable and engaging. He made our sons laugh and feel special. We all thought he was one of the best servers any of us had ever experienced. J. Gilbert's gave our group of six our own room which, with a group of six guys, was really nice. As always, the food rocked. From the calamari appetizer to our steaks to dessert, everything was excellent. The steaks were perfectly cooked, with a nice sear, and were juicy and very tasty. Thanks,Stephen and J. Some restaurants would offer a free desert, for example, as a good will gesture. This would have been a feel good thing to do and would have easily made us forget the only blemish on an otherwise flawless experience. We understand that an occasional mistake is bound to happen.
