Gilbert's started by accommodating our request for an easily accessible table for a family member who uses a walker. Our waiter was excellent -- helpful without being intrusive. The food was delicious, particularly the steaks (my filet was cooked perfectly). Everything we had was good -- the drinks (especially the manhattans), the onion rings, the salads and side dishes. Although the restaurant was busy, the noise level was only moderate, which was an advantage for us since we have a family member who is partly deaf. The restaurant also had plenty of parking, which gives it an advantage over many restaurants closer to the city where parking is a problem. Overall, J. The menu is an honest presentation--descriptions regarding preparation and size are accurate. Bread is fresh and hot--it comes without requesting. The soups are 4 stars (really way above average but not the best in the world). The entrees are nice--from salads to burgers and steaks in-between--are flavorful. There was a generous buffet with a great variety of foods. All were delicious and well prepared. The staff was very friendly and attentive, always making sure that our drink glasses were filled and clearing plates. The service was slower than a normal restaurant, but it gave us time to enjoy our food and have meaningful conversations. The detrimental part of the visit was that we were sitting next to a huge party with two young children who kept constantly running around and screaming. I don't know, but if I'm paying $100+ for dinner for two, I'd like a little bit of a nicer atmosphere. I know this was probably an exception to how things normally are at J. What a surprise to find it in McLean. Everything was great. I had the 3 course with 6 oz. filet. Thought it might not be enough, but it was. And cooked perfectly, Pittsburg style. Linda had the crab cakes and said they were excellent. Martini's were excellebnt as well, straight up, dry and well chilled.

The variety at brunch was excellent, including sausage gravy over biscuits, omelets, carving station, lots of good breads and bagels, yummy salmon and chicken, and plentiful desserts. It was a very nice selection for a brunch.
The wait staff was very attentive, providing spoons without being asked, clearing the plates, and pouring the coffee. The food was fantastic- hot things hot and cold things cold, nicely presented and delicious flavor. There was a nice selection of things to choice from and the buffet was kept clean. Our server was very attentive and polite and we did not feel rushed. We will be back again when we visit my son.
