J. Gilbert's is an "upscale casual" steakhouse serving prime-aged beef cooked over a mesquite wood-fired grill. Guests enjoy various cuts of steak, fresh seafood (including award-winning crab cakes) & other house made favorites like the Maytag Blue potato chips & chocolate velvet cake. The cozy atmosphere includes fire side dining, rich wood, brick & soft lighting where you can enjoy dinner for two or host a large party. When I made the reservation online I was also able to have flowers delivered directly to our table, it caught my wife completely by surprise and was her favorite part of the night. The food was pricy, but for a special occasion, it is well worth the cost."

  • "It doesn't matter what year/day/hour I have ever been to J. Gilbert's - it never disappoints. Ever. The food is simply perfect each and every time. The maytag bleu cheese chips are a staple as an appetizer. The maple-crusted salmon cooked on a cedar plank was outstanding and be sure to ask them to add white cheddar to your mashed potatoes. I like green beans - but J. Gilbert's served with carmelized onions and pecans and I could not get enough. I cannot imagine there is anything on the menu that would not need yield perfection."

  • "We went to J. Gilbert's for a romantic anniversary dinner. We had 7:15 reservations, but arrived about a half hour early and were seated immediately even though the dining room was crowded. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We never felt rushed and the food came to our table as ordered at a nice relaxing pace. From appetizer to desert, the food was very good. The only drawback is the noise level. It was very loud which, in my opinion, takes away from the ambience. That being said, that fact alone will not keep us from coming back as the overall experience was very good."

  • "I went here for birthday dinner and was very impressed with my perfectly prepared steak (filet - rare+). I was looking forward to rounding out my dinner with a piece of cheesecake (plain without the strawberries). While the cheesecake part was excellent in texture and flavor, the crust was not traditional graham cracker but more like a shortcake. This would be fine I guess if I wanted the strawberry sauce, but I didn't and I really wished it came with traditional crust."

  • "Came here often when I lived in the Hartford Area 10 years ago. Upon arrival we were immediately seated.... no long line as I was used to from former days. Yes, we had a reservation. We ordered the Maytag chips... came out fast. We were almost done with our chips when warm sourdough bread came out. My NY strip steak was done as ordered. My daughter's filet (ordered Med.) was overdone....well done. She didn't eat it. The waiter was nice enough to take this off the tab. My wife ordered med on her filet. It came med well. Overall the food was very good in my eyes but not worth the price charged. I can get comparable steaks at Longhorn or on my own grill from COSTCO. Might have received only 3 stars if my wife was drafting this."

  • "I had the salmon which was delicious! The green beans were a little crispy for my liking but very flavorful. My date had the porterhouse. He was looking forward to a great steak and I dont think he got what he was hoping for...not at that price. However, he raved about the mashed potatoes! Who orders a $60 steak and doesnt stop talking about the mashed potatoes?? The service was outstanding, friendly and accomodating. I would recommend J. Gilberts to my friends and family. And I will go back!!"
