Diner Reviews
  • "Couldn't have asked for a better birthday meal with my close friends! Food and drinks were great, some of the best mussels that I have had in Omaha yet! "

  • "I had been to J. Coco's twice before and the food was always good. I took my husband there for a belated Valentine's Day dinner since I had been impressed by the food. The waitress was prompt and helpful. The menu was different than the last time I had been there, but we both found things we liked. I had the Chilean sea bass special with sake and Asian pot stickers -- it was wonderful. The fish was prepared perfectly. My husband had the shrimp and grits, and he ate all of it. It was very rich, but he really liked it. The only downside is that the place is somewhat loud since there are a lot of hard surfaces, but not so loud you could not enjoy yourself. We will definitely go back."

  • "I have had the pleasure of dining at J Cocos approx. 5-6 times since they opened up for business and it is one of my favorite restaurants in the Omaha area. The food is always fabulous and so beautifully arranged on each plate. I thoroughly enjoy the wine selection including the nice variety of wines by the glass. I tried a wine that I had not had before called Bonarda from Argentina and loved it! I am always so impressed when a waitperson asks me if I would like to try a sample of wine first especially if it is a type of wine that I have not tried before. I appreciate the fact their menu has a fair number of choices but not so many it takes all night to decide on what to order. The service has always been outstanding!"

  • "After looking over the menu and asking the waiter for suggestions, I chose to get the Cedar Planked Salmon. The description on the menu said the salmon was accompanied with "Lobster Tater Tots" which sounded fantastic. When the food came however, there were no tater tots at all, so it was just the salmon and some vegetables. the salmon was cooked nice, but was just very simple. Not worth the money I spent on it. Misleading menu and just mediocre food. However the service was good and fast, and the restaurant has a feel that is the perfect balance of fancy and relaxed."

  • "Always a great place to eat and also to take friends"

  • "My initial visit to J.Coco did not disappoint. Prompt and friendly greeting/seating. Our server explained the specials of the day. Unique touches to fairly-common dishes, such as the calamari which was served with Meyer Lemon, pico de gallo and avocado was a great starter. My friend and I both ordered the Croque sandwiches, one with and one without egg...the best ever! Pomme fritte were disappointing, the only disappointment...they were not crisp at all, but were hot. My friend's side salad she found tasty and beautifully presented, the dressing made with cashew oil. No room for dessert. But I plan to return again soon to try other menu items that looked very enticing! Noise level too high, though. I'd heartily recommend it!"

  • "Our group was seated promptly at our reservation time. Drinks and food were served with a quickly! Noise level was high at times, but overall you could speak in a normal tone to the person sittng next to you."

  • "We checked for reservations on OpenTable and found that there were only very early or very late ones left. We were so excited to go there that night and had a child with us so we opted for the early reservation. Two of us were trying to make the reservations - unknowingly - and learned that I got the last one for 5:00. When we got there, there was only one other table in the restaurant and open tables for as long as we were there - 6:30. Next time I use OpenTable and find limited reservations, I will call the restaurant directly."

  • "Sea bass was ridiculously delicious. I ordered it a few days earlier and it was amazing then, too. I am pretty sure I could eat there every night of my life."

  • "My guest I had a wonderful evening as always at J Coco's. From the moment we were greeted until we paid our tab the whole experience was incredible. We are looking forward to going back again."

  • "The food was delicious. Many flavors that one would normally not assume would go together... do quite well! I had a SeaBass on a bed of vegetables w/ homemade dumplings & miso sauce. It was DELICIOUS. My friend had the chicken breast over a bed of squash ravioli and it was devine! There are a lot of options for our various tastes. Our only complaint was that we were sat by the door on a cold night... brrrr!!"

  • "Fun experience, feels like the perfect first date restaurant."

  • "My boyfriend and I dined at J. CoCo after hearing rave reviews from friends and co-workers. We started with the cheese plate (fantastic!) and calamari (very heavy on the lemon, but good). For entrees, he chose the rib-eye and I chose filet over a spinach and pear salad. Both of our steaks were perfectly prepared. Food = 4.5/ 5 stars. The service, however, was lacking at best. Our server seemed rushed and ambivalent about being there. He started us out with bread (no butter or oil), and we had to ask a hostess to bring some. He dropped off our cheese plate and ran away without explaining anything. When asked about the types of cheese we just enjoyed, he said he didn't know. The ambiance is great. The service, not so much."

  • "I used to come to J coco's a lot. Recently I recommended the place to some friends and we decided to come in. I have truly never had a bad experience at the restaurant before but this time the service was absolutely terrible. The waiter was arrogant and rude. He would not answer any of our questions but made us feel foolish for asking the questions. It made us all feel very uncomfortable. I will not come back for a while. The good on the other hand was good as usual!"

  • "Had a great meal with great service. The beef tenderloins were not as tender as they should have been. Sauces were very good. Crab cakes a bit dry but the sauce helped. Service has always been great."

  • "I was very disappointed in my first visit to JCoco. The food was nothing like I thought it would be. Average at best. Our server stopped serving once the check was dropped off and in not ok with that. We hung out long after we paid. Just disappointing all around. Not sure I will give it another try."

  • "I gave it a 4 star rating, becuase the food was delicious and the portions and prices are the best in town. But on this occasion, it was the staff which really fell short. The waitress didn't seem new, but she didn't seem to know the menu either. We asked her to speak to how a couple of dishes on the menu were prepared. All she could say was "..they were good". Not really what we wanted. She had little information. She had trouble reciting the specials, and seemed annoyed with waiting on us. After dinner, my husband asked about an ingredient on his plate; she gave an answer, but I questioned the ingredient from seeing it on the menu, and the waitress was wrong. Will go back, but ask for different server. The table by the door was cold."

  • "My husband just visited for our third time. We really enjoy the ambience. The service is outstanding. The drinks are so creative and delicious. But the food is definitely the highlight. We always get the hummus and olive plate to start our meal. This time we tried the fried olives and were so glad we did. We actually argued over the last one. We really enjoy coming to J. coco and look forward to dining there again soon."

  • "very nice location in an old neighborhood grocery store.. Service was a little weird, (two servers that didn't seem to be aware which one was helping us), the food was very good and cooked as we liked..."

  • "We were offered a very special menu and our party of 6 wanted to try every single one. The salads were wonderful and the cashew vinnegrette is always delicious."

  • "Took a chance on the pork loin with chorizo and butternut squash sauce, and it was one the most amazing meals I've ever tasted! I only wish there was more of it but it was enough to mostly fill me up."

  • "We had 4 diners on Valentine's Day for dinner. It was, of course, very busy but the quality of the food was terrific ! The steaks were cooked crispy on the outside but very juicy & tender on the inside - something like I have never really experienced before = an EXCELLENT dining experience ! Another thing - We called ahead to see if we could bring in our own bottle of wine (Jordan Cab 2008) and they were fine with it but said that they would appreciate it if it was something that was not on their wine menu - the corkage fee was $15.00 - BUT - if we purchased our 2nd bottle from the menu the corkage fee would be removed - a very unique deal !!!"

  • "Second time we have eaten there first time was great but on Vday weekend very disappointed with food and service. Cioppini seafood dish was all under cooked and lobster and shrimp were raw, sent back lobster after putting in discard pile and when they brought it back it was same lobster flash cooked and put back in same shell. My food appeared to be sitting under a warmer for long time yet was not even warm when arrived. Waitress was like a robot and didn't get noticed by manager until we were leaving and then offered free dessert but we were almost out the door. Probably shouldn't have even left a tip but since I worked in restaurant for 7 years just couldn't do it, which is a shame because we loved the chef when she was at Flat Iron"

  • "Had no idea what to expect, but was thrilled with every aspect. The ribeye and sea bass were exceptional. Service was great without the snob factor. Quality product at a fair price. We're already reserving a table for next week."

  • "Had a great experience at J. Coco entertaining work associates. Food was excellent- love the diversity on the menu- service was great and the atmosphere was alive. While it was a little noisy for business conversation, it didn't bother us to the point of being a negative. I'll be back for sure..."

  • "Perfect setting for a lunch meeting. Busy but not overly crowded, noise level not a factor. The chicken noodle soup did not disappoint on a cold day. Entrees for the group included the waygo burger, caesar salad and the house version of a cobb salad. Each of the diners were impressed with their individual choices. The portions were ample for lunch, flavorful and interesting in their presentation. Service was impeccable by a knowledgeable and attentive server. The only negative on the place is the scarcity of adjacent daytime parking. Street parking is limited and the restaurant's lot is about a block or so from the site. That's not a big deal most of the time, but can be when the weather isn't cooperative. It's worth the walk."

  • "Food is delicious , expertly prepared with excellent quality ingredients and imaginative flavor combinations that set it apart from the ordinary restaurant. Desserts are made on the premises by a talented pastry chef. Even the drinks are extra-good, with some specialty cocktails. The several wines we have tried from the wine list were very nice wines. Homemade sourdough bread is very good. Servers were a little too busy to give great service."
