The Chef has developed his trade so well over the years, I am surprised at the pricing and incredible selection of food. I have been there 5 times in the last year and I always try to find something different for an entrée, never to be disappointed. It definitely is energetic, noisy at times. The views of the kitchen are fun to watch. Jeff checks each dish going out - that is definitely pride in your product. You can't get food of this caliber anywhere in the area. We've never had a bad meal, and the service is top notch. Love that the owners are always chatting with their guests, making sure that everything is perfect.
They also do incredible catering, both in their restaurant and at your place. They catered my daughter's graduation party, and I've attended numerous showers, birthday and anniversary parties catered by J.Baldwin's. Jeff (the owner/chef) walks the tables, greets each person, friendly but not hovering. The servers are always attentive. The calamari? No wonder it wins awards. His lamb special was ordered by my 14 year old grandson and was excellent. My wife and I can come alone and enjoy a pizza and a drink in a relaxed dining area. We were very happy that they are still in that location, are very busy and jumpin', and have an improved menu. Everything was cooked perfectly, the owner and chef both came to our table to greet us. We made a reservation, and were seated immediately even though it was incredibly busy. We started with a cosmo served in a glass made of ice, which sat in another glass. The drink was always ice cold - just the way I like it! They have a nice wine list....and, they decanters that they pour red wine in to to allow it to get some air. We had pizza - which is one of their specialties - but there were several things on the menu I would like to try. The service was great. I really enjoyed the overall experience. I cannot stand waiting in the bar/live music/kitchen traffic/host stand area waiting for my table (right in front of the revolving door - freezing during Michigan winters). This place consistently serves us great food, the owners always walk around making sure everyone is enjoying themselves and have everything they need. But, even if you have reservations, you must wait and the wait is uncomfortable and way too crowded. Of course, that hasn't stopped me from returning.
