  • "We celebrated my husband's 45th birthday this weekend at J&G Steakhouse at the W. The location was great/convenient, our fish entree and sides absolutely fabulous and the Frog's Leap wine was a perfect match for our meal. The service was also well informed, not too overly attentive and very appropriate for the setting. The warm chocolate cake and ice cream sent by the restaurant to my husband for his birthday was well received and very much appreciated. Thank you again! Afterwards we were able to walk across the street to the Hamilton to hear some live music - highly recommend J&G Steakhouse for a special occasion."

  • "This wasmy favorite place in DC. however since my last visit try redecorated and changed the menu. They got rid of the table cloths and now use a rubber place mat. More of a coffe shop feel than a luxury restaraunt. Part of the old speak was it was next to the White House and had a stuffy executive feel."

  • "I took my wife here for her 30th birthday, and it was torrential rain outside. We had some trouble finding the valet for the restaurant outside the W, but once we got in, we found our group (15 people total) and initially we ran into a snag, as the tables were not cleared up for us. However the manager did a great job to alleviate everyone's concerns, providing us with drinks in a waiting lounge, until he could clear up an area for the entire group in one table! That was a surprise, and so was the exquisite service and food. All the staff were excellent to ensure we remained satisfied. After dinner, the group went upstairs to POV and the manager made sure we were able to take an elevator straight up and skip the long line outside!"

  • "The service was great but the food was pretty average. The steak was too salty (and I'm almost never one to think something is too salty) and I hate putting sauce on my steak but I had to in order to mellow out the saltiness. For the price, you could do a lot better."

Despite most other diners being more casually dressed we did not feel out of place. The atmosphere, service and food quality were all of a high standard. We each started with french onion soup, then shared the Tomahawk steak with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes on the side. The first bite of the tomahawk was one of the better bites of food I have ever eaten - a perfectly seared, medium-rare steak. The service was attentive but unintrusive and extremely professional. We love going to J&G, and we will absolutely be back."

  • "My team and I went here for a team lunch. For being called a "steakhouse" there were not many options for steak for lunch. There were a total of about 3 options for steak. It is overpriced but that's normal for hotel restaurants (in the W Washington). We ordered the calamari for the table and that was decent (can't really go wrong with calamari). I ended up ordering from the "Express Lunch" menu which allows you to pick two items (but not two entrees) from that menu for $19. I got the crab cake and the steak frites. The crab cake is different from what you'd expect - it comes with grapefruit and avocado and is very zesty; it would fit as a summer dish - very refreshing. The steak frites were decent."

  • "After dining here I am utterly amazed that the name of the restaurant includes the word "steakhouse". From the decor, to the ambiance, to the menu selection (especially regarding steaks), nothing about this place says steakhouse. The menu is absolutely pathetic, listing only 4 cuts of meat...four! I think the local Applebee's has more cuts of steak available on their menu. In addition to the extremely overpriced cuts available on this limited menu, the waiter did not even attempt to describe the cuts, the restaurant's cooking methods, etc. as is typical at a true high end steakhouse. While the service was not bad, it was not exceptional and not close to the level expected. Finally, they were out of 2 beers from a horrible menu."

  • "We found J&G to be a gem of a working lunch place. The restaurant was not very crowded and not loud at all, so conversation was quite pleasant. We ordered off of the express menu and had an exquisite hanger steak and frites, which came either with a starter or appetizer, although you could order both for a bit more. We both had the J&G Cheesecake with Poached Pear and gingerbread ice cream which was really a treat and so "worth the bite". Service was outstanding. Almost better than the food were the so comfortable wingback chairs that we sat in - felt like sitting in a cloud! So relaxing with a view of the Washington Monument, I could have stayed here all afternoon. Will definately recommend to colleagues and visit again."

  • "The food and service were amazing. We were there on Valentine's Day, and were able enjoy a nice dinner at a leisurely pace - there was no rushing, and our meals came out perfectly. The only thing we didn't quite like was the fact that many of the tables are very crowded - you are sitting very close to the table next to you so it is a bit difficult to have a private conversation. Other than that, a great dining experience."

  • "The W Hotel Washington is a landmark and the locale is prime Washington spot. This restaurant makes you feel as if you are "Washington-special" as the service is exceptional. The challenge we found was the food, at lunch. The ceasar salad had so much mustard it came to the table with a bright yellow hue. The portions for a meat entree were small and came on a huge plate making it seem even moreso. The appetizer and desserts were outstanding. And the view and ambience more than made up for any challenge. I will frequent this restaurant to create a special experience and will keep trying menu options until a fully complex and satisfying entree emerges."

The layout of the restaurant was the only issue. There was hardly anyone there while we ate, but the seating still felt like we were a little cramped for space. I sent a detailed letter to the management and got a form response. I was expecting so much better of J&G and it was a total let down.   • "WE went there for restaurant week. We were looking forward to a nice lunch however the meal was not extraordinary. $20.14 for soup and sandwich a pie I would pay if it was good. YOU can get better deal at other restaurant who participate in restaurant week. The soup was good but the Cesar salad was less than mediocre. The lettuce was in small pieces with over the counter crouton. Pieces of steak in the sandwich was way too cooked.The pie, I have had better at some of the diners around. Overall I would not recommend J&G restaurant."

  • "We waited about 5-10 minutes before we were greeted by our server. He seemed annoyed that he had to work or even answer questions...the restaurant was pretty empty. We had to ask if we could order our food... the meal was subpar. The steak was over cooked. The seasoning on the fish was too salty. Dessert however was delish. The waiter forgot our coffee..sat around for maybe 15 min before he brought us the check before he was reminded again...he did however bring us coffee on the house becausr it was forgotten. For the restaurant being at the W you would have thought the experience and the attention to detail by the wait staff would be excellent. Our waiter was distant...and only gave us attention when we showed to be annoyed."

  • "The menu was very limited and the service was hot and cold. The manager came by to ask us how things were going. My friend is a slow eater and the staff kept asking to take her plate. Then when we were done we waiting 20 minutes for our dessert. Also, I made reservations on Tuesday for Thursday and they called me everyday to confirm the reservation. Very annoying. I have an extremely busy job and it was disruptive and at one point I considered cancelling. I would not recommend this restaurant."
