  • "I am so sad that J&G Steakhouse will be leaving the W Hotel and will be replaced with another rest. as the food is really great and I love the new decor - nice plush chairs for a nice quiet lunch - Just love it. I am glad most if not all of the staff will remain when the new rest. opens."

  • "We had a very good steak dinner. lovely cut of meat, cooked just as we ordered and tasty sauces to try. nice view."

  • "Service is good. Location is GREAT! Food is not worth the money. The steak was 60 bucks and not cooked anywhere near how I wanted it. I asked for medium-rare and I got charcoal. They sear (seer, sere...?) the meat WAY TOO MUCH, which resulted in a horrible filet mingon. (Excuse my spelling errors) The lobster is tiny and not worth the money. I highly recommend going to the bar on the roof-top at the W, but as for J&G Steakhouse, you're not missing anything if you never go there."

  • "Fabulous hotel, amazing restaurant, super delicious food, and finally but most importantly super friendly staff and superb service!"

  • "What a beautiful historic room. Loved the ambiance and the wine list was wonderful. Something for everyone. The presentation was fabulous."

  • "Not what one would expected from a high end steak house. Inexperienced staff, poor service etiquette and average fare is what J&G is all about at the W Hotel. One meal had to be sent back. If you want a good steak in the Washington DC area, do yourself a favor and dine at the Capitol Grill, Morton's or Smith & Wollensky. At least they measure up to NYC standards."

  • "We showed up for dinner for my friends bachelor party and were SURPRISED to find out there was a private bar underneath the main restaurant. We had a fantastic dinner and were able to watch the NBA finals game on the only TV in the restaurant! The service was incredible and I'd highly recommend. "

  • "Very good menu, food was very well seasoned and presented well, not just looking good on the plate, but actually food was there."

  • "An unexpectedly superb brunch. Restaurant is a steak house at the W Hotel, so figured the brunch food would be fine. Wasn't expecting it to be great. Egg white omelet was amazing. "

  • "Really enjoyed the hanger steak and fries were really yummy. As well as the mashed potatoes. The calamari and tuna tar tar were great apps, but a little disappointing on the amount given for the calamari. Looked like they just threw a couple pieces on a plate. Other people in the group had the halibut, the short ribs, the salmon and the filet and all loved their meals. The red velvet dessert and the cheesecake desserts were also especially yummy. "

  • "As there the Friday of Memorial Day weekend so it was it too crowded. The waiter was very attentive and gave good recommendations. Great sangria drink. Good sides and dessert."

  • "The food was indeed very good but service was poor and rude and ruined one of our 4 evenings in DC. Despite the offers by the Manager to accept dinner on the house because of the staff's poor performance and lack of respect, which I declined because my intent was not to have a free meal but a great time with my wife, I would not go back nor reccomend to others. The are many alternative great options available in DC !!"

  • "Food was just adequate and service wasn't what we expected for a W Hotel. Not worth the trip ."

  • "We were SO bummed at how downhill J&G has gone. We had one dinner on our own in DC this trip, and I sadly felt that it was wasted here. We will not be eating here again "

  • "I've been to J&G Steakhouse three times so far, and the food is always superb. Unfortunately, they redecorated between my second and third visits and the new vibe is less than stellar. It's no longer what I would define as a 'fine dining atmosphere'. We were celebrating my graduation and it was VERY loud, to the point that we could barely maintain a conversation. The service was fine, but for the cost of the food and wine it wasn't really up to par. Plus we got there 7 minutes before our reservation, and the hostess refused to seat us until the exact moment of our reservation, despite there be being tables available. She was also extremely rude about us being early. The saving grace is really the food, which is absolutely amazing. "

  • "We were celebrating my son's 12th Birthday in DC, and we could not have picked a better place to do it. He loved his steak and our waiter, Arsene, made his dessert a very special surprise. This was our best dinner in DC"

  • "I expected this to be a place to get an excellent steak but was happy to find that everything else we ordered, from appetizer to salads to sides, was also delicious. Like the food, the service was impeccable. We never felt rushed, and yet we never waited so long that we wondered what had happened to our food. We also appreciated that we could easily converse without shouting. Prices are high, but this was not a surprise. We still thought it was a good value--as opposed to some D.C. restaurants where the prices may be somewhat lower, but the food and ambience are not as good and one feels rushed through a meal."

  • "Went here for a special night out while visiting DC. Had drinks in the lobby bar before dinner (highly recommend!) Incredible food. Everything we ordered was better than expected- faves include the bone marrow side and the local rockfish, grilled. Service was spot on- staff was so nice. They even walked us to the front of the line for POV when we were done. Things to improve- the lighting was too bright (dang compact fluorescent bulbs!) and it would have been more romantic with lower light. Also, the table we were at had these giant lounge chairs and I felt like a child at an adult table because we were seated so low. Otherwise, highly suggest! Worth the price!"

  • "I visited this restaurant twice before the recent change. I am mystified as to what they were thinking!? It was once a classy steakhouse restaurant very Ruth Chris / Morton's and now it's a brasserie style with food to match. Table cloths have gone, cheap plastic tables, tasteless food. Prices are the same as before. very disappointed. "

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. My husband ordered 6 oysters for an appetizer and liked them so much he ordered 6 more. I had the tuna tartare, delicious! My daughter and I split the large Waygu steak. It was done as asked and it melted in the mouth. My husband ordered an individual steak and it was also excellent. Service was attentive and courteous. They heard that it was my husband's birthday and brought out a complimentary bread pudding and ice cream. The most amazing thing, though, was that we had been there six months previously and the waitress remembered us. I couldn't quite believe it at first, but she remembered we went on my birthday and where we sat. Very impressive! We will definitely go back."

  • "Booked for business dinner die to the ambience. Beside it is right at the Whote House, ambience was nothing exceptional, food was OK, but could have been better for such restaurant. Did not feel special as a guest neither received excellent service, it was OK. Next time would rather chose the roof top bar for a lunch instead."

  • "My mother and I are visiting from Texas. I brought my mother to the restaurant for her 58th birthday. It was the best experience. The staff was wonderful and attentive. My mother was brought complementary champagne and a desert which was awesome. We ordered the short ribs and died and went to heaven. They were so great just tender and succulent. One of the best DC restaurants I definitely will recommend my family and friends to stop in and eenjoy!!!!"

  • "Calamari was light and tasty; sauce that accompanied it was exceptional. Lambchop was good but a very small portion. Mash potatoes were excellent. Crab cakes were vary, very good. Dessert was disappointing. Ice cream was nothing special. Cheese and bread were not well matched. Bread with cherries was too overpowering for strong cheeses that were served."

  • "I ate here several times and each time we had a great experience. The staff were amazing with my 11 year old daughter. They were all very friendly and were the perfect balance of enough attention and letting us alone. The food was a surprise every time. Even when I thought I ordered something simple like fresh pea soup it was outstanding. The staff were excellent at helping me navigate through the menu for a gluten free diet. I will return every time I'm back in DC!"

  • "We celebrated my husband's 45th birthday this weekend at J&G Steakhouse at the W. The location was great/convenient, our fish entree and sides absolutely fabulous and the Frog's Leap wine was a perfect match for our meal. The service was also well informed, not too overly attentive and very appropriate for the setting. The warm chocolate cake and ice cream sent by the restaurant to my husband for his birthday was well received and very much appreciated. Thank you again! Afterwards we were able to walk across the street to the Hamilton to hear some live music - highly recommend J&G Steakhouse for a special occasion."

  • "This wasmy favorite place in DC. however since my last visit try redecorated and changed the menu. They got rid of the table cloths and now use a rubber place mat. More of a coffe shop feel than a luxury restaraunt. Part of the old speak was it was next to the White House and had a stuffy executive feel."

  • "The ambience was wonderful. My wife and I had the fillet and it was the best we've had in years. It was expensive for us but we new it would be. It's well worth the money for a special occasion."

  • "I took my wife here for her 30th birthday, and it was torrential rain outside. We had some trouble finding the valet for the restaurant outside the W, but once we got in, we found our group (15 people total) and initially we ran into a snag, as the tables were not cleared up for us. However the manager did a great job to alleviate everyone's concerns, providing us with drinks in a waiting lounge, until he could clear up an area for the entire group in one table! That was a surprise, and so was the exquisite service and food. All the staff were excellent to ensure we remained satisfied. After dinner, the group went upstairs to POV and the manager made sure we were able to take an elevator straight up and skip the long line outside!"

  • "The service was great but the food was pretty average. The steak was too salty (and I'm almost never one to think something is too salty) and I hate putting sauce on my steak but I had to in order to mellow out the saltiness. For the price, you could do a lot better."

  • "Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Great recommendations from our server. Room was a little too bright for me to give this a check in the romantic box, but the room is beautifully decorated and folks were dressed for a night out, which is nice."

  • "This is by far the best steak I have had in DC area. Very tasty and juicy, the side order veggies were also very tasty, not like those offered in other steakhouses. Highly recommend this restaurant though the menu is pricey."
