J&G Steakhouse at the W Hotel Washington DCGreat ExperienceWe had an all around great dining experience. The Hamachi Sashimi over Crispy Rice belongs in the appetizer Hall of Fame. The steaks were perfect as you would expect for the prices charged. The sides were also outstanding especially the asparagus and the creamed spinach. Service was professional but friendly and very efficient. Expensive but worth it.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is about my 5th visitThis is about my 5th visit and the food is perfect6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI had been to j&g once beforeI had been to j&g once before but this experience was made special because of the great service that we received. When making my reservation, I had indicated that it was my boyfriend's birthday. From the moment we checked in with the host, every member of the staff greeted him by name and wished him a happy birthday. A small gesture but it meant a lot. Our server was phenomenal, checking in at the appropriate intervals, offering recommendations but not pushing anything, and setting just the right tone. Needless to say, the food was also excellent - our filet was cooked perfectly and the cookies melted in my mouth.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent but expensiveExtremely good. Prices do reflect this. The wine list is perhaps too high end orientated. I would also say that the prices for wines are very high for what they are. However great dining experience6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMComfortable seating -we hadComfortable seating -we had 2 fish dishes and 2steak dishes and all four were excellent
Great service-nothing to complain about
Highly recommend this steakhouse6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMJ&G, Great job!The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was great & the service out of this world! After dinner we went to the roof for good drinks and views of the White House. I would highly recommend J&G for a special occasion or if you are just in the mood for a great steak!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Steak and Service! The appetizers were inventive and very tasty! My husband particularly liked the crab cake. The steak was fabulous! The service was outstanding! I would go here for both a romantic dinner or with a group of friends.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMbest memory of washington visitOur visit to the steakhouse was - hands down - one of our best memories of our trip to washington! the service...the food...the ambience...it was all fantastic! We loved that the food was really terrific while still being ideal for those who aren't overly adventurous when it comes to fine dining.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Special OccasionI'm in the military, and rarely can ever go to a fine dining experience. I was treated by my folks to J&G Steakhouse for graduating from a Masters Program. We had Omar as our server, and he treated us superbly. He gave wonderful recommendations, was extremely knowledgeable of the menu, and made me feel special, and important. My folks, who treated me, said it was one of the finest dining experiences they had ever had. The ambience was great, and we had the restaurant manager stop by to ask if everything was as expected. I don't know if I'll get the chance again, but would chose J&G as a first choice for fine dining experiences.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceOur group chose the taster menu. All of us were thrilled with the choice and enjoyed the 5 different courses. Each was perfectly prepared and enjoyed. Blackened octopus was amazing and the Guiness beer ice cream Sunday was phenomenal. The fried poached egg was the hit of the table. We will definitely return to J&G when in DC.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely as alwaysI am always happy to dine at J&G steakhouse. The food is always perfectly prepared and the service is excellent. I love the flavor and presentation of the salmon tartare and my NY strip was medium rare, tender and juicy.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways AwesomeThank you again for a great time, always enjoy this place.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was a WOWThe food was really great! I love love love the Pepper Jam that is served with steaks. Also, my guest had the cod with chilli sauce which was really good too. You have to save room for desert. The Cheese Cake and Salted Carmel Ice Cream Sunday are worth the calories.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding!Everything was top notch. The food was incredible and the staff was very attentive.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWith out a doubt one of, ifWith out a doubt one of, if not, the finest restaurants in DC. Exceptional menu, prompt service and a great environment. I return to J&G regularly for business entertaining, family get togethers and special occasions and always leave impressed.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome lunch at J&G Steakhouse!I always try to go once to J&G Steakhouse when in Washington, this was a memorable time again. First, cream of asparagus with a poached egg, who would have thought? The soup was creamy and breaking the egg in the soup made it beautifully unctuous and yummy. Next the tuna tartare, the flavours were there, unfortunately the tuna itself was ground, baby food texture? I was sad to not finish it. I was offered a strawberry shortcake, a lovely cookie like cake, the cream replaced by a lemon meringue that was delicate and tasty strawberries. I rarely have dessert, but this one takes the cake, literally. I had a crisp Sancerre with my meal, which the attentive and wonderful server suggested, it complimented all my food beautifully. Deliciousness!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMfood great - service not great!the food was very good... but the service was not...nobody ever even came over to ask how our meals were....so it is a good thing that we were fine with the food that was served to us....and then we were never asked if we wanted more drinks...yes our water glasses were filled....but never offered more wine....and I would have liked it. I know our server was busy...but I think he could have found more time for our table....4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food, is amazing. NothingThe food, is amazing. Nothing on the menu could be considered average steak house fare. The staff is always knowledgeable and attentive. I've been several times, but will give you this suggestion: do not go here for a private date. You will be seated at a two top that is less than two feet from your neighboring table. So you will end up on a date with two-four additional people that can hear every part of your conversation. Best to go in a larger group where you can get a table that is relatively distanced from other tables. Unless of course, you're looking to meet other couples. Since I'm not, I will be going to other steakhouses (BLT) that can offer a more private setting.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was sublime and it'sFood was sublime and it's a quiet restaurant for an intimate conversation!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good and theFood was very good and the service was great. Valet parking charge of $$25 a complete rip off. Go across the start to the garage, save $15 and get your car faster.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Akaushi Beef, Comfy SeatingWe heard service was a bit slow and it was, even on a Sunday night when the restaurant wasn't crowded. Our appetizers came out right away which surprised us, but then the server brought out the wine and said our food would be out shortly... a solid 25 minutes passed before the meal came.
Our server was knowledgeable and gave a good description of menu items to help answer questions. I got the Akaushi beef, which I've never had before and it was AMAZING! My girlfriend went with the NY peppercorn steak and it was just ok.
Seating was very comfortable, our booth was practically a giant couch. I almost dozed off sitting there, which I enjoyed. I tried the chairs on the other side of the table and they were comfy too.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for my birthday dinnerWe went for my birthday dinner and I couldn't have been happier! Our waitress was superb and the food was fantastic. Wonderful experience!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious andThe food was delicious and the service was great! Our waiter went out of his way to make sure my date and I were comfortable.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat steak in a cool environment,Great steak in a cool environment, the J&G and the W get it right.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMJ&G -- Great food all aroundFood was excellent (steak &seafood). Appetizers were creative and flavorful. Ended the night with chocolate cake and strawberry shortcake. Service couldn't have been better and our server treated us to an extra dessert (nice marketing touch). Can't wait to go back4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant atmosphere and exceptionalElegant atmosphere and exceptional cuisine; great for entertaining clients. It could get a little loud with the acoustics, but there's no denying the superb combination of decor, atmosphere and flavor. Highly recommended.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second visit. This was our second visit. The food, as before, was excellent, but unlike our previous visit the service was SLOW. It appears we caught them on the first night on which they were serving on their outdoor space in addition to indoors, and they didn't appear to have anticipated the increased demands on the kitchen ( especially on a night when the Cherry Blossoms were at peak - as were the crowds). Having said that, the staff was very apologetic, and made up with a free dessert. We certainly will be back - but I think we will check the schedule first.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMJ & G Steakhouse is my favoriteJ & G Steakhouse is my favorite DC restaurant. The service is wonderful and the food is outstanding. They always make me feel welcome, like they are glad I'm there. I love the place - no other steakhouse in DC is as good!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMamazing mushrooms!Went here for my husband's birthday dinner as we were staying at the W Hotel. Amazing dinner. You must try the mushrooms and the asparagus side dishes. The lychee Bellini was a special find and very inventive while not being too sweet or syrupy like a peach Bellini can be. The service was good but got was too slow as the meal progressed. I mentioned that we were trying to make a fireworks display but that didn't help get our dessert or check in time so we missed the fireworks. Awesome dinner and we would go back as long as we didn't have to be somewhere. We started dinner at 6:30 and the fireworks were at 8:45. I really thought that would be enough time.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMReally great place, anytimeReally great place, anytime I have friends in from out of town this will be one of my top choices to take them.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great, but serviceThe food was great, but service was uneven. We like to enjoy a romantic dinner, but it took forever for the main course to come out, and then again for the dessert to come out, and the waiter would disappear as well (although he was polite and attentive when there). Since we had dined there before, it didn't totally spoil the experience, but it seemed like there was some problem in the kitchen they just couldn't get under control.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, wine and service!Great food, wine and service! One of our favorite restaurants in the DC area.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMRe:quired read discretionary diningJean George brilliance - sexy starters to sensuous sides, dining is pure pleasure DC style with a bottle of Red from the fine vines of BR Cohn (Doobie Brothers, Mgr) My guests sliced into juicy red steaks charred to a calculated crisp... the lobster will remain in your memory the moment it passes your lips... a Jean George restaurant is worth booking a room for... from Paradise Island Atlantis to Manhattan Island, NYC. The only issue was the service - we started dinner at 6:45 and didn't finish until after 10.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMRight down in the heart ofRight down in the heart of DC, this is a wonderful restaurant in the W hotel. Great service, excellent food.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat birthday! We both got the cheapest steaks on the menu ($24) and were blown away by the taste, can't imagine what the $40 or $50 one tastes like. They were also cooked to perfection. My medium rare was nice and red but also very hot. Dessert was also amazing, get the cheesecake! We had a great server as well! We also arrived 30 min before our reservation and they still sat us immediately.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
