  • "Had a good time with my family and enjoy tuna sushi, spider soft shell crab rolls, shrimp rolls and tuna sashimi. Delicious all the way around."

  • "Booked a party of 11 people. Our waitress was attentive and her recommendations where helpful and useful. Our orders (multiple a la carte sushi, maki and sashimi samplings) were 100% accurate. Our orders arrived at a timely and unhurried pace. The quality was, as always, reliably good."

  • "food was okay. Small portions. $80 for 2 people. One drink each. It took over 40 minutes to be served after we ordered. I almost walked out. Not going back"

  • "This was our first time at Izumi's. I thought the service was both friendly and efficient. The menu has lots of interesting choices and we really enjoyed trying several of them and sharing. Each was tasty and I'd go again."

  • "Trying to find a sushi restaurant in Milwaukee is difficult. Friends recommended we try. Nothing spectacular on the menu except they did offer sea clam which is a plus. The seaweed salad was good. The rolls on par with supermarket quality. The teriyaki chicken. Extremely bland. Would I go back?? Doubt it..."

  • "I had wanted to try Izumi's for a long time but just never got around to it. Finally I stopped in for dinner. The place is cute. The food is not at all what I expected. I expected good sushi and instead I got very poorly made sushi. Sushi should be artistic...this was a mess. Sloppy is the word that comes to mind. The rice - which tasted bad - was falling off the sushi roll. Each piece should have the same ingredients in the same order, instead I had some pieces with no fish - others with no scallion. In addition the fish was chopped into such small pieces, I can only think that this was done to hide a lesser quality piece of fish. Didn't taste fresh at all. I would have to say this place lives on reputation only! I won't go back!"

  • "We recently moved from Japan to Milwaukee and visited Izumi's for the first time looking for taste from home. Unlike most of the Japanese restrants outside Japan where we end up getting disappointed, this place serves real authentic Japanese food. Everything was delicious, especially we were impressed by the freshness and quality of fish. Not only typical Japanese foods like Sushi or Tempura, they also serve various authentic dish that you could rarely find outside Japan. We'll come back whenever we miss taste from home."

  • "It was like being back in Japan to have to part the noren when I arrived at Izumi's. We sat at a table which is more comfortable for me just now. The menu was the most extensive menu for sushi and sashimi I have sseen even in Japan. The food was very artistically served which added to the enjoyment. The quantity was just right for someone being carefull of their diet. In reality i could have eaten twice as much as it tasted so very good."

  • "Izumi's offers a great spin on the classic Friday fish fry and it's one of the best in Milwaukee. If you're lucky, you can get the private room for larger parties and that's a great space for families. Their traditional Japanese food is great as well. All around a wonderful restaurant."

  • "We went at a very busy time: 6pm on a Saturday. Definitely recommend making reservations on the weekend, as when we left, there was a crowd waiting for tables. Even with a packed restaurant, it wasn't loud, our waitress stopped by frequently, and we waited an average amount of time for our food. The food itself was amazing, and definitely worth the price. My friend and I are relatively new to sushi, so we got four different kinds of tuna rolls. They were the perfect combination of flavors and spice. I will definitely be going back to get a little more adventurous."

  • "Didn't think this place was TOO spectacular. Especially for the prices. Some sushi was better then others. Staff was overall nice. Atmosphere is better then other restaurants, esp sushi places in milw."

  • "Really fresh and good sushi. They have high quality traditional sushi and now have introduced some more "modern" rolls. I just think of it as Quality for a bit less than some of the trendier places in Milwaukee."

  • "I was insanely disappointed in this restaurant. We read and heard from so many people that this was the best place for sushi in Milwaukee and after being too about five other places this was by far the worst. We got in at 7, no one was at the front of the house to seat us. Our waitress came to our table after 15 minutes and it took 45 minutes to get our 6 rolls. Our rolls were falling apart, the soy sauce was really watery and the rolls were all about 3 inches long, which for $10 was a horrible deal. Also the screaming kids ruining around the restaurant didn't help either. Sorry guys, I would never go back. By far the worst sushi I've had in Milwaukee"

  • "Over and over again the freshness of the sushi is always at a very high level. Before or after a movie at the Historic Oriental Theater this is a solid good choice for great Japanese food."

  • "Best sushi in the city... Maybe the state. I've loved this restaurant for 20yrs. It is wonderful. Our family celebrates most of our special occasions here."

  • "Izumi's was fantastic. The wait staff was super helpful and their suggestions were delicious and fantastically prepared. Over all a rookie sushi crew's first rate experience!! Will recommend Isumi's to anyone looking for a unique sushi experience."

  • "I ate here for the first time this past weekend and it was great! The rolls were delicious, though the pieces of just tuna we had tasted a little odd. The service was excellent and we were checked in on enough times to get everything we needed but not too much as to be annoying. We had some of their ice creams for dessert and that was great too. The only negative I have is regarding the ambience. The chairs were not super comfortable and there was NO music playing so it made the place quiet but almost TOO quiet. Other than that, the food was great and not TOO expensive and everyone that worked there seemed very nice. I would definitely go again."

  • "As four first-time visitors to this Japanese restaurant the waitress was extremely helpful in explaining the intricacies of this large and expansive menu. Our food selections were outstanding. Servings were plentiful and well-presented. Very enjoyable dining experience and we will definitely return to sample some of the other enticing sounding meal options. Off-street parking lot is a big plus in this busy neighborhood. Overall a very positive experience."

  • "I have been going to Izumi's for years and have always enjoyed my experience. I brought a "newbie" with me and was very excited to have him try a favorite dish of mine... only to find out that they were out of it... we picked a second option and that was not available either. We were very disappointed, but our waitress was great in suggesting a third option - which turned out to be wonderful!"

  • "I came here with a group of seven for a early birthday experience. the waitress was excellent and hospitable. I felt nervous for her because we are slightly obnoxious but she was so patient with us. Izumis called me the night before to offer me the private room and I am so thankful that offered that! The food was excellent and I will definitelyT come again."

  • "I was excited to try Izumi's because I saw that they made the top places to eat in Milwaukee in 2012. The service was very slow and things came out at random times. The food was good but I will most definitely be sticking to Nana's or Thai namite in the future. The rolls there had far more flavor. Im not saying that it was bad food, but it isn't my favorite."

  • "Izumi is our very favorite for Sushi. The ingredients are always fresh. Some creative nuances to our Japanese cuisine experience are new to us. We noticed the couple sitting next to us selected many of those items which they requested be served on a single large plate to share. We plan on doing that next visit. We like the Green Tea ice cream as a dessert."

  • "The waiter forgot one of the appetizers. And then one person in our party received at least 10 minutes before the other three people. The restaurant wasn't incredibly busy, but the kitchen or waiter were not able to keep up and serve tables in the order they arrived. The food was decent and I would go back, but I would make sure I had plenty of time and patience."
