  • "I love this restaurant and its very warm, friendly waiters and waitresses. I always take my co-workers here for a treat! My favorite restaurant close to City Hall, Los Angeles!!!!"

  • "First going in an "underground" (literally) restaurant might be scary but the ambiance is good, quiet enough to have a conversation but there's enough customers to make it lively. The food is good and the servers are really nice..."

  • "The place is good and the food is delicious. The price is affordable. However, when we checked out, no one come to serve."

  • "Nice neighborhood restaurant. Staff is attentive, food is good and reasonably priced. 'Trendy' decor and upbeat vibe."

  • "I came here on a first date. It was nice! We ordered a few things, I had a beer, she had wine, we ate until relatively full. The check came out to about 70, which isn't bad at all for the quality and taste of everything. "

  • "this is a place for drinking beer with some small dishes which taste like Japanes food, not Japanese. I do not want to go there for eating."
    Dined on 5/15/2014
  • "My husband and I ordered several dishes highly recommended which were just okay, and not delivered at the right temperature. Prices are very good for a trendy atmosphere with full bar, but there are many other choices in Little Tokyo."

  • "Good location with easy parking. Located in the basement level of bank building. Service was great especially for a large eating group. Great variety of food and sushi was clean and flavorful. Large bar with large drink menu and sake variety."

  • "I used to love this place. Cool hidden gem in little Tokyo. But this last time, the service was so slow and the food came out even slower. Under staffed and the food was ok this time. I really hope it was just an off night for them but not so sure."

  • "I made my reservation online w/Open Table. Triple checked my reservation for accuracy and it was fine. Upon arriving at Izakaya Fu-ga, the manager, Nilton, couldn't find my reservation. I showed him the e-mail confirmation I received but he reiterated that no reservation was present in his system and warned me that my party wouldn't be able to dine there. Thankfully, Nilton accommodated my entire party for the night which was fortunate because I was celebrating my birthday. If it wasn't for Nilton, my birthday would have been ruined. Nilton informed me later that he DID find my reservation but it was for 9:45 p.m. which was odd because the e-mail confirmation I had showed 8:00 p.m. I won't be trusting anymore Open Table reservations."

  • "We've eaten here several times over the past few months, when visiting LA. It's a quiet downstairs place with soothing environmental videos lining the walls. I guess you'd call the food Asian fusion; I'll call it tasty and usually just the kind of light evening meal I'm looking for. Good bar for cocktails, nontrivial sake list. Pleasant staff. We'll be back on future visits."

  • "will definitely go again, but they can work on their service. they served the main entree first before the appetizer! other than that, a very good experience!"

  • "In addition to the awesome eats, this restaurant has the best service! Highly recommended!"

  • "Great food at a reasonable price. We ended up running late to get there in time for our reservation and we were able to re-schedule the time and they had a table waiting for us when we arrived. That was a great surprise!"

  • "We thought all the dishes we had were really tasty and reasonably priced and would highly recommend this restaurant. Our fare: fire cracker shrimp, pork belly-wrapped asparagus, bacon-wrapped scallops, Shichimi grilled squid, aged rib eye, cheese risotto and a house salad. Their menu is rather extensive and we will return to try more. All the employees we encountered were pleasant, courteous and attentive, starting with the young man who immediately acknowledged us when we entered (a simple act, but very important to me). We had an early dinner, but by the time we left, it was getting filled, with more people coming, so make reservations. I would rate this restaurant between "Very Good" and "Outstanding" - 4 1/2 stars out of 5."

  • "With the screens on the wall showing scenes from Japan, it is almost like being there! The food here is good and it is a good, quiet place for lunch. They used to have great lunch specials, which I wish the still had. About a year ago they changed the menu and the specials went away. Still a good place but we just need to be a little more creative on how to order and still get a good value!"

  • "Fu-ga is one of those places I walked by all the time without really noticing. Going down the steps to this below street level restaurant feels familiar in a New York subterranean kind of way. The bar glows through onyx counter tops and the interior is warm and inviting with Jazz music playing over muted Japanese music videos on the wall TV's. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgable and I've been introduced to several nice Sake's by our regular waitress who has tattoo's and a Bow-Wow-Wow mohawk. The food is great and fresh. Favorites include Short ribs and Ahi Tuna Roll. I even tried tongue for the first time and liked it. A great neighborhood place that can also be a destination dinner out in Little Tokyo."

  • "The Hamachi sashimi was superior the night we went. The other sushi rolls and Ankimo were very good. My companions enjoyed their beer & sake flights. I would go back here, but the experience is somewhat marred by the odd parking situation and convoluted and access to the restaurant. You pay $5 for parking, which is refunded on validation. One is told to park anywhere in the adjacent garage, but all of the spots say "Reserved for {specific name}." When you finally do find the elevator bank to the restaurant, which you assume will be on level one, there is no sign next to the Basement button to let you know where to go,. Besides, only one of the three elevators will go to the basement. So, apart from the signage, very good and recommended...."

  • "This place is quite unique among Little Tokyo options. It's somewhat set apart from most of Little Tokyo, in a basement on San Pedro. Upon entering, you are immediately greeted by a dark but warm ambience and a friendly staff. We had a reservation, but there was no problem being seated at 6:30 pm on Saturday night. We had the aonori flavored garlic fries and crispy rice with spicy tuna. Both were among our favorites. We also had the spider roll (rice was overcooked), agedashi tofu (unusually, they used a firm tofu), spicy tofu (fried and bathed in a sweet and spicy sauce), yakisoba (nice flavor but too salty), and miso scallops, which were delicious. All told, not bad. Might come back for happy hour."

  • "Tried Fu-ga based on pretty good reviews. Food was so-so. We ordered 10 dishes and 3 were good (rib eye, sea bass, monkfish liver), the rest were insipid. It was an expensive and unsatisfying meal and we ended up going out for a "real" dinner afterwards. I had high hopes for Fu-ga but it didn't approach living up to my expectations."

  • "Loved the place, its very intimate. It's a bit pricey so I would just come here for drinks appetizers, grab lunch/dinner somewhere else. They do have some neat looking desserts, half off on Tuesday."

  • "Outstanding experience at Fu-Ga! The food was excellent and the staff was wonderful. Parking is easy, if you can hold off and avoid the after-work crowd. Do visit their website before you go. The stairs down from the street are rather steep, so ladies be careful in those heels! It is located just around the corner from Weller Court which has great new venue for live jazz called The Blue Whale."

  • "Nephew leaving to graduate/docturate program, had an amazing dinner (again)... Love this place, from manager, to servers, to bartenders, drinks, appetizers, entrees, rolls and desserts, a must come back to each time!"

  • "Food was excellent, just about everything we ordered tasted great! Private rooms were nice with its own TV, but the bar-like seating was a little uncomfortable for eating. Overall, a good experience. This place is definitely on the list of good Japanese Izakaya places to go."

  • "Delicious menu with a variety of Japanese dishes--sushi as well as cooked dishes. Decor is not fancy, but stylish with a very comfortable vibe. All the staff were friendly. The bar is well stocked with some interesting Japanese whiskeys (I'll try those next time--I had a Sapphire gin/sake cocktail that was very nice as well as a $5 IPA that was delicious). And on top of all this, 2 hours free parking with validation! [in the building's lot--you pay $5, take a ticket, get the ticket validated by the restaurant, get your $5 back]. Of course, it's a short walk from the Gold Line station so if you're going to hit the cocktails heavy (and the ambiance inspires that!), let MTA do your driving for you."

  • "Less delectable than some similar types of spots -- but when the bill comes there is a pleasant surprise, earning them the extra star. Music and decor rather missing the mark. Beer, saki, and Japanese whiskey selection also helps earn that 4th star."

  • "Although the happy hour menu has been cut down to a minimal list, the regular menu items are still very comparable in price. Great variety of food. Their new hot pots are delicious."
