The Katsu-Ya group has 5 locations in Southern California and growing. Our founder and executive chef Katsuya Uechi tied for #1 ranking for Top Food 2006 Zagat Los Angeles guide. In addition, chef Katsuya has KATSUYA by Starck restaurants with SBE Entertainment in Brentwood, Hollywood, Glendale, L.A. Live and Laguna Beach. There are plans to open more restaurants outside of Southern California. A cool celebrity hang out Hyde Lounge on Sunset Blvd's menu was also produced by no other than our chef Katsuya. • "the spicy crunchy tuna rolls were great! fantastic place all around"

  • "Their lunch combo's are great deals and extremely reasonable. Sushi/sashimi top notch. All kinds of fusion small plates. Service is good and friendly. Not a beach scene place but it is Manhattan Beach so you can dress like for the beach dude!"

  • "We ordered the chef's special tray. Very average and uninteresting. Stick with sushi. Many items had no prices and the waitress gave us a price "range". Only Average service this time."

  • "I have always had the best fresh sushi and good time at this location."

  • "Traditional and original options. Great flavors! Try all the special rolls and the appetizers sampler."

  • "Enjoyed a delicious meal here with my 15 year old daughter. We especially loved the crispy rice with spicy tuna and seared tuna with fried onions. The 4 1/2 roll was also fantastic but rich as was a similar roll topped with fried shrimp in a creamy sauce. Would be a regular if I lived in the area!"

  • "Special items sushi were excellent. Beef...not so great"

  • "Food was excellent, but noise level required yelling across the table and lip reading. Particularly liked the salmon, miso cod, and tempura in the box lunches. Nice decor."

  • "I am somewhat of a sushi snob and my daughter wanted to go here because she loves to go there with friends. I was hesitant since she really doesn't like sushi and I tried to get to go to Nobu. She said "no Nobu gotta go here". I succumbed and WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! Excellent sushi, fresh softshell crab to die for, Nigri Sake perfect, and the Unagi was so fresh. With good there is a little bad, the scallop roll had a little too much sesame oil but other than that great food. Close tables, friendly people, fun atmosphere. "

  • "Get the live scallops....velvety and full of lemon. Amazing!"

  • "This restaurant is basically standard Japanese sushi fare but has the "izakaya" name and the brand/chain behind it, which seems to put it on the radar screen of the younger (under 45) crowd. Their sushi platter is a good deal. Their noodle dishes are good. We miss our non-chain local sushi place that used to be on the same site as this restaurant as this one lacks personal touch. But they do a decent job."

  • "We come here every couple of weeks now. The food is always delicious. The only thing I didn't like about this go around, is the service was a little awkwardly slow. They are always on top of things and we don't leave without spending over $150. I have been here many of times and this is the only time it was slower than normal. Also my two kids love it! 4 and 7, and they love the baked hand crab roles. "

  • "My boyfriend loves sushi, and me not at all. And he introduced me to here, and I fell in love. Crispy fried rice with spicy tuna, is awesome, and baked hand crab rolls are amazing. "

  • "I love Izaka-ya! The sushi is absolutely amazing! The crispy rice & spicy tuna roll is to die for! The only issue I had was the length of time it took for the food to come out. This time, we had to wait quite a long time between sushi coming out. We were in the restaurant for over 90 minutes. We also had to wave down our server a lot or another server would jump in and help us. Our server really only checked on us when we had food and our mouths were full - we obviously didn't need anything then. But when we were sitting around, waiting for food for at least 10-15 minutes between dishes, she was no where to be found. Overall, I still love this restaurant and the food is incredible but the service this time around was definitely below par."

  • "I must say, we love Katsu ya. We have been going ever since they first opened up their tiny little location in Studio City, and since then, they have opened many other locations over the years, and each one of them gets filled up quick. The food is amazing, the price is $$, but the wait is tough to stick out, and it is frustrating even when you have a reservation. We came in with a reservation, and waited at least another 30 minutes on top of it. I also do think that they should treat their loyal customers a little bit more specially. We come their every week with our two little babies in tow, EVERY WEEK FOR YEARS….. It would be nice to be treated like a VIC."

  • "Everything was really great, just felt a little rushed by the server."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "The sushi here is amazing!!! It's very busy and sometimes the service is a little aloof (maybe because so busy), but the sushi is well worth it!!!"
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "The sushi was good, not great. Portions were on the small side. The service was also good, not great. It was very loud."

  • "So disappointed. We had really looked forward to going here. However, the quality just wasn't there. The fish was fine, nothing special. The tuna wasn't firm. Aji was okay, but definitely not the best we've had. Some unique rolls, but used so much mayo you couldn't taste the fish! Japonica in redondo is far better and Naka in redondo has the best quality of fish around. Our server Heather was delightful and I would say on the whole the Denice was extraordinary!"

  • "Disappointing. From start to finish. We wanted to have a great experience with our Valentines dinner but the restaurant failed us at every turn. We were seated 30 minutes late for a 9PM reservation which was confirmed and finally seated at a small, uncomfortable, poorly placed table facing a wall after waiting packed like sardines. Our waitress was rude. Service was slow. The two special rolls we ordered were inedible with an overwhelming amount of what might have been mayonnaise. These were cleared largely uneaten but no one asked why."

  • "This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the South Bay. The albacore jalapeno sashimi is a must have. The rolls are excellent and the miso cod is always outstanding."

  • "Great restaurant and food. Love to go there for lunch and dinner."

  • "I've only been here for lunch and I come back practically weekly (I work in the area). They have great lunch specials but you have to get there early before they sell out of it. The seafood soup has one of the best broths I've ever tasted, and the miso cod lunch box not only has a succulent piece of cod but it also comes with a lot of food, good enough for almost two meals! Love this place. It does get crowded, even for lunch, so it's best to make a reservation."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised by our recent lunch at this restaurant. It is a cute little Japanese restaurant in the heart of downtown Manhattan Beach. Lovely restaurant staff - friendly, efficient, and gracious. The food here is really quite good. It is more down to earth as opposed to trendy, fancy Japanese food, but still of very good quality. We had sushi and sashimi and both were fresh. The decor is clean and modern. It is the type of place you would feel comfortable bringing out of town guests or even business associates to without feeling embarrassed, but also a place you can feel relaxed and comfortable while dining. I didn't see any kids but we would be fine with bringing them here. We will definitely dine here again."

  • "Had a quasi business/social lunch there and it was great. Food was good although a couple of the rolls could have been done a little tighter so that the y held together better. Otherwise, was a nice lunch."

  • "We ordered the tray for 2, the lobster sushi and the rubber sushi - Everything was really good. We also ordered the BBQ ribs and the beef kebabs. We didn't like these as much, mainly because of the type of spices."

  • "The service is amazing. The host apologized for a short wait to be seated and once seated everything was like clockwork. As each dish was finished, a new plate arrived. I love the food. It is fresh, light and tasty; it has never disappointed me. I recommend Izaka-ya to anyone that is inclined to eat Japanese food."

  • "one of my friends recommended the place...once she mentioned that it was from katsuya - I was like "oh i gotta try it out". i lived in downtown l.a. for 15 years and was surrounded by all the great "neighborhoods": little tokyo, chinatown, koreatown, thaitown, downtown, hollywood, westside, santa monica, monteray park, etc. so i was accustomed to some great food, but when i moved down to the southbay area, i was really disappointed with 95% of the restaurants around here. anyways, i went to izaka-ya for lunch and it was pretty good - especially for the area, but the reasonable prices makes it an awesome value. this will be my go-to place for sushi in the south bay. it's not a huge place, so keep your parties to a 6 or 8 people max."
