Diner Reviews
  • "We reserved for a party of 7 and then quite unexpectedly were a party of 4 and The Ivy accommodated us without any issues. The food is excellent and prices are quite high, so be prepared!"

  • "Terrible. Unedible. This was the worst food i ate in years. The tuna tartar was so unrespectfully done that it looked more like a mess. The simple salmon dish was horrible. The place is pretentious without a kitchen to support it. We abandon the dishes and went out to eat elsewhere. Service was bad too."

  • "I've been to Ivy at the Shore a few times, as well as the Robertson location and have always been impressed. This time there was confusion between the server and his assistant, a long wait for drinks, lack of consistency on when they checked back with us. I was also unimpressed that they were unwilling to do any smaller portions of something for an 11 year old. I wasn't balking at the price, but didn't need a giant Caesar and a giant bowl of pasta for her. I'd think twice before coming back to dinner here, though i love the place."

  • "Not a fan, nothing special about the place besides the location"

  • "This place is beautiful, and so are the people who eat here. My only complaint is that the service was really slow, and the restaurant wasn't that busy at the time. We waited almost 10 min. just to get water, another 15 for the wine I ordered. The food came out quickly once we ordered, though."

  • "My wife and I make it a point to have dinner here every time we visit the LA area. Food is always fantastic , service is second to none. And it's a great people watching spot."

  • "Amazing food, attentive and professional service and really fantastic drinks. You can't go wrong with Ivy. Try the lobster pizza and the frutti Di mare- both are top notch. The atmosphere is energetic and great for large groups or a romantic date."

  • "Food and drinks were awesome. Unfortunately our server wasn't great at all he rarely came by our table and when he did he had an attitude. I think maybe because we had our kids with us. Ribs are too notch, I recommend. Maybe our server had a bad day."

  • "Ivy at the Shore is the finest restaurant we have ever attended. From the time you step to the hostess desk to the final dessert, everything is PERFECT. The decor is outstanding. Flowers everywhere. The waitstaff is helpful polite with attention to every detail. The food is varied and delicious. The specialty items are out of the world in presentation and taste. We will plan to return often, even though it is a long drive from Encino."

  • "Ivy at the Shore is a timeless treasure in Santa Monica. I was there on a first date this week, and we had the entire inner-patio area to ourselves for most of the lunch. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, service was impeccable, and our entrees were delicious. The non-alcoholic pineapple juice may have been the best fruit drink I've ever had! And guess what, there is going to be a second date. Cheers"

  • "If you're gonna pay the price, I don't suggest ordering a hamburger. Get the seafood platter or the best steak. Overall it's impressive."

  • "Great food and cocktails, and even better atmosphere! The beachy/kitschy vibe is fun. Best mojito I've had in a long time."

  • "Ivy at the Shore is one of our favorites . I particularly like the swordfish simply grilled and the vegetable salad is a movie. Also love the vintage ratan furniture and stunning fresh roses."

  • "It was our last day in SM before we flew back to Australia so we decided on an early dinner. We just loved it! We were offered inside or out and chose out. The whole restaurant is divine. From the decor, white jean dressed waiting staff, great menus, cocktails and on our occassion, delicious food! Our waiter( the distinguished bald man) was so helpful and attentive that just made our visit just so much more special. Ladies make sure you check out the bathrooms too! Just loved it!"

  • "As usual, the food and the ambience were great. The service was slower than usual today. I think that may have had something to do with the World Cup being played right then. All in all, still a good experience and a must do thing when visitors are in town."

  • "This was our first time to this location and we enjoyed every aspect of the restaurant. The food, especially, was worth the trip. The service was top notch. The staff was attentive but we never felt rushed or as if we had to wait for anything. The ambiance is wonderful - a really uplifting atmosphere."

  • "My wife went to the Ivy on the Shore last weekend. She took a life long friend who has never been to an Ivy.. We go to The IVY's for special occasions When my wife's food arrived at the table she notice the plate was chipped, but wasn't to alarmed until her best friend bit into a piece of glass. They ask for the mangager and was told he had stepped out for a moment.. Wow peak hr weekend lunch and no manager..waiter took back the plate with glass and brought back another..My wife looked around at other tables and noticed some other chipped dishes.. She was presented with the full itemized bill and given a box of cookies for the inconvience of eating glass...hmmmmm What has happend to this upscale place.."

  • "I came to the Ivy expecting a lot. But I was generally disappointed. The service was nowhere near the caliber of an expensive restaurant. The food was average but extremely pricey. The grilled salad was a $22 plate of vegetables. Apparently, the Ivy is a destination. In reality, it is little more than a pompous venue that thinks that par-level food is worthy of an exorbitant price tag. I will not be back."

  • "We have been to the Ivy many times but stop going lately as the food had slipped terribly and it was far from the original in the city. Friends had recently gone there and said the food was greatly improved and was worth trying again. Unfortunately, they sat us inside in the front. As they evening wore on, the noise level kept any table conversation impossible to hear and the room was extremely hot and uncomfortable. The food was vastly improved and were the new prices! On the way out, we noticed the rest of the place was quite comfortable and noise was much more moderate. I would not go back on a weekend and without being seated outside or toward the front."

  • "Always reliable and always fun. We can't go the The Ivy at the Shore without sharing the vegetable salad with grilled shrimp which the kitchen splits perfectly. This time we also shared the lobster tacos, another solid choice. Drinks are great and always a good view,"

  • "Ivy at the Shore achieves high marks for all but frugality. It is a Key West setting with the chintz chairs and beautiful pastel flowers all around, not to mention lusciously huge roses in voluminous quantities but the food is why you come and it is not to be missed. Barbecued salads are the best, and the crab cakes are the best in town. For my birthday there was a complimentary scrumptious pink cake with a fat sparkler blazing at our table. Very fun evening for a special occasion."

  • "Been going to Ivy at the Shore for over 25 years now and it still holds up very well. Don't get there as often, but when it's soft shell crab season, we make a point of going. They are consistently good and dependable and continue to set high standards across the board. They used to be very pricey, but interestingly, many of the other slightly above average restaurants are charging a lot more these days so Ivy didn't quite seem so expensive in comparison. Try to get there a little before sunset and sit on the patio, very enjoyable."

  • "This has to be one of my favourite restaurants ever. It's cosy yet cool, the food is delicious (great variety, including lots of tasty fish) and it's just a great place to watch the world going by."

  • "The location is great, the service was great, but the food not impressive. It was at best ok. I ordered the cod w curry, it was bland. Someone in my party ordered a steak, definitely not a Morton's steakhouse. One guest ordered fish, and every time she took a bite had to take the bone out of her bite. The restaurant is extremely loud and very crowded. The waiters and other guest would bump your seat as they passed by. I wouldn't eat here again, but may stop in for drinks."

  • "A beautiful little gem by the sea, The service was spot on. I had one of the specials - A wild Salmon It was delicious! The rest of our party had a fried seafood platter - The whole meal was great. Loved the full vase of roses on the table!"

  • "Great service, romantic atmosphere, good menu selection, great food and cocktails! Celebrated my birthday, had a wonderful dinner, completely enjoyed it! Would definitely recommend it! "

  • "The waiter clearly only paid attention to the loudest person at the table and made the rest of us feel invisible. Service was so slow. Took forever to get my ice tea, and never got a refill. The over dressed soggy Caesar salad was worse than a salad at Dennys. The next dish was the $120 hot seafood platter for 2 that I shared with my son. It included dry tough over grilled shrimp and scallops and single crab claw. The half tiny Lobster tail was also overdone. Thank god it was only about a 1 tablespoon bite of dry lobster. Crab cakes were BORING. My dad's Branzino DRY and COLD. Never again. "

  • "The food was good, but on a Friday night the place was packed, and they crammed diners in like sardines. This also meant that the noise level was almost deafening. It was extremely difficult to carry on a conversation without yelling. While I generally like this place, I would not recommend it if you want a nice, quiet dinner."

  • "Been going to Ivy at the Shore for some time now. Went yesterday for dinner sat out on the terrace and order the Santa Barbara Crab. All good. This time as it approached the table, it smelled fishy, not good. It was dried out and nothing was fresh or sweet about.; Even the red sauce which seemed like it was freeze dried in texture which was strange. Moved on to the meatballs w/o pasta with wilted broccoli. My friend had the fried chicken which was as well dried out. Not going back for awhile, maybe when the YaYa gumbo returns in the Fall. Very disappointing and really awful food."

  • "10th wedding anniversary dinner. We had a great evening at The Ivy. We loved everything we ordered, fresh cracked crab, crab cakes, goatcheese squash blossoms, soft shell crab and crab salad were all fresh and delicious. Service was great. For brunch, lunch or dinner in santa monica the Ivy is hard to beat."

  • "Always love going to Ivy at the Shore. It's one of my favorite restaurants but going on a Saturday night like we recently did, the noise level is so loud it makes it really difficult to hear the table conversation. The food is always great and the service is wonderful!! Can't wait to return but maybe not on a Saturday."

  • "I hadn't been to the restaurant in over 2 years, and had forgotten how generous they are w/their pours! I knew I shouldn't have had 2! Seriously. I'm not a lightweight, nor a lush - they're just really potent and tasty. We shared the caesar salad and ordered the hot seafood platter for 2. It was DELICIOUS! My stomach is growling just thinking about those shrimp! Scallops were amazing, calamari fried to perfection, crab cakes moist (tartar sauce - YUM!) and the lobster - fantastic! It was more than enough for 2 and that's what I love about the Ivy - they feed you! We went on a Fri. night and were seated next to 2 bday parties of 10 girls each - a 13 year old's & a sweet 16 - barely noticed them once the second drink kicked in!"
